Not someone who should have a nuclear bomb

Did you see Mike Wallace’s "60 Minutes" interview with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? I missed it but thought the CBS News report on the interview was interesting. Wallace tried without much success to get Ahmadinejad to discuss Iran’s support of Hezbollah, his opposition to Israel (does he really want Israel wiped off the map?) and his country’s reported support for the insurgency in Iraq. Ahmadinejad came across in the news coverage similar to how he reportedly did in the 18-page letter he sent to President Bush earlier this year: rambling, and not someone who should have a nuclear bomb.
Did he seem that way to those of you who watched the interview?

If Bush is so eager to give nuclear secrets to India despite India’s failure to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and their ongoing border conflicts with Pakistan, then why is he so worried about Iran getting nukes? It certainly can’t be for failure to sign a treaty. Oh yes, it must be the entire reason Pakistan was denied nuclear secrets, it’s a Muslim country.

So Iran is supporting Lebanon. One democratically elected government is supporting another democratically elected government against foreign intrusion. If Bush sells weapons to Israel then why is it a problem if Iran responds by selling weapons to Lebanon? There’s a double standard there.

Bush has made it necessary for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. He’s already indicated he wants to invade Iran so now it has become a matter of self defense. Right before Bush invaded Iraq they told Iraq to disarm, which they did, and Iraq got invaded anyway. There’s no reason for Iran to trust Bush or the American government since it was the American government who overthrew Iran’s old democratic government and installed a cruel, despotic dictator who slaughtered thousands.

Doug – taking it further. After the rather convenient assasination of Rafiq Hariri we pressured Lebanon to expel Syrian troops who had kept the peace since Israel withdrew some time back. The Syrians had anti-aircraft that might have given Lebanon at least SOME measure of protection from terrorist homicide bombings. Instead, the Lebanese government was convinced to place their trust in the United States. I don’t think the Lebanese people will reward their government for that mistake.

Ben you make a good point. Syria was also wanting to help America against Al-Queda since they were a threat to the government of Syria. Bush rejected that help because he’s more interesting in provoking a war with Syria than actually stopping terrorism. Diplomacy could have removed Syria from Lebanon forcing the disarmament of Hezbollah however that would have made for some stable governments in the Mideast. If there’s peace in the Mideast then oil prices would drop and the oil companies can’t be making money that way.

So, do you lefties want to revisit the diplomacy argument? 20 years of diplomacy with hundreds of terrorist bombings and all of those Iranian, Russian, Chinese and North Korean weapons now in Hezbollah’s and other terrorists inventory doesn’t seem like a match made in heaven. One more thing, because the MSM pukes and ED would never tell you, before big bad Israel bombs a site or goes in with ground troops, they drop Aramaic language leaflets and send warnings across the Aramaic radio stations. Not sure that is a good idea, because the Hezzie’s use this as part of their strategies to launch missles while embedded in with civilians and most likely forcing them to stay. The thing that really bothers me about the whole Middle East war, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Lebanon is this:

We wept when the terrorists destroyed the twin towers and thousands lost their lives. We have made movies about the heroism of ordinary people involved in rescues and the people who fought the terrorists on flight 93.

What we don’t hear about are the ordinary people in those countries involved in this war who are doing the same things. The innocent and innocents lost to “collateral” damage. The families destroyed by both sides because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The callous way they are mentioned in news reports as nothing more than statistics. Nathans callous statement, “War is tragic and lives are lost. Thank God we don’t have to carpet bomb half a city to take out one factory anymore.”

Excuse me, Nathan, but they’re not your family, so they’re a statistic of war? What right does this country have to invade another country because some tin-pot dictator, such as Saddam, makes useless threats using toy airplanes? What right does this country have to virtually destroy a nation and leave it in ruins? What right do you have proclaiming the dead just a tragic part of war?

Tell me Iraq is better off today than it was when Saddam ran it and I will personally tell you you’re full of BS. Tell me we have slowed terrorism by invading Iraq, and I will tell you again you’re full of BS. Tell me the majority of the people of Iraq are happy we have bombed they’re country into the Stone Age, and I will personally tell you you’re full of BS.

Those families in those countries are, or were, real people . . . human beings with the same dreams we, the superior savages, have. They’re not some stupid morons as much as we would like to believe, or what Bush and his minions are trying to portray them as. The tears of every American would not be enough to wash away the damage we have done to our standing in the rest of the world, although every American should be shedding tears for the innocent lives lost, both ours and theirs.

JR, thanks for mentioning Seymour M. Hersh’s article — it’s a must read.

    ‘Washington’s interests in Israel’s war.’http://www.newyorker.com/printables/fact/060821fa_fact

John Arquilla, a defense analyst at the Naval Postgraduate School:”Strategic bombing has been a failed military concept for ninety years, and yet air forces all over the world keep on doing it.

The warfare of today is not mass on mass. You have to hunt like a network to defeat a network.”—-Like Scotland Yard, et al did recently…Today’s LO has some of Hersh’s points, and covers the neocon reaction to UN’s cease-fire.http://www.liberaloasis.com/

Ian’s just bitter, he lost his family fortune when Castro took over, his father was too stupid to do a wire transfer, his hated for Jews most likely stems from the fact that his father lost his job as Meyer Lanskys “fluffer” when his hotel/casino went belly up. As for Ed, Freidman is that not a Jewish surname, My guess is that his hated of Jews stems from some sort of family dysfunction that has been transplanted into a general dislike of Jews altogether. An elder Freidmann probably molested Ed an older brother, Uncle, father. Or someother deep dark family secret.

Win14TheGipr,”You just follow MSM pukes and the rest of the leftie BS. LOL”

The laugh’s on YOU Win. Most of MSM is not “leftie”, but dysfunctional, and happily parrots RNC and other’s spin/lies.

Without the spin/lies from Faux, Rush, Coulter, Drudge, right-wing “think tanks” (sic) etc, your party would fall apart.

Thanks for posting the article Cosmos. I saw Mr. Hersh on Hardball.

If Israel attacking Lebanon WAS a test run for US attacking Iran, I think bush may think twice.

Oh who the hell am I kidding he doesn’t even think once!

Here and now I predict a bombing campaign against Iran……..oh say a couple months after the election depending on the result.

That is why the result is important.

Dingus, You stupid redneck bastard, you couldn’t figure your way out of your family’s whore house where they never could figure which syphilitic whore dumbed you on the floor. Your analytical prowess is only surpassed by either your ignorance or your room-temperature IQ.

Poor Ed, your pissed because I called you a Jew or because your father cornholed you? I’m the dumb redneck maybe so, But I’m not the dumbass that thinks that the Jews are planning to or already rule the world in some in some vast conspiracy. The protocols of the elders of Zion was debunked a hundred years ago, and you know what else, Hitler Lost. Maybe you could ease your paranoia with an active social life, spending 24’s a day blogging and reading over some fringe websites has to take up a lot of time. I know plenty of places to pick up a girl if you want.
