More than judges judged Nuss

GOP gubernatorial candidate Jim Barnett had called for Justice Nuss to resign over his ethics lapse. So when the Commission on Judicial Qualifications admonished Nuss, Barnett cited it as further evidence that the state needs a new way of picking justices and told the Capital-Journal: “I’m not surprised that judges have decided another judge hadn’t done anything wrong.”
For the record, though, the 14-member commission, chosen by the Supreme Court, includes four laypeople as well as six retired or active judges and four lawyers. Its current lay members are Bruce Buchanan of Hutchinson, Mary Davidson Cohen of Leawood, Christina Pannbacker of Washington and Carolyn A. Tillotson of Leavenworth.

Who’s Nuss, what did he do, and why should we care?

Nuss came forward and said - hey I may have made a mistake here, my bad, I’m sorry. Why is Barnett speaking on this matter like he’s really running for governor? Remember he’s going to keep his full time medical practice if he wins the election. That if for no other reason is to take his words with several grains of salt.

I assume Barnett is trying to appear that he is tough on any unethical acts. But Julie is right, who cares about Barnett. He has already told everyone that he plans to keep his medical practice while being governor. That makes no sense at all.

How would you feel if you were charged with a crime and the judge in the case discussed your case with someone involved in the case over lunch?

This guy is an idiot, he should resign. It is hard to believe that someone who has a law degree would do this. Any lay person would know better.

Every code that Nuss violated is part of Lawyer 101. Nuss was a practicing attorney for several years. He violated these codes as a Supreme Court Judge. One has to ask the question: How many times did he violate the code while an attorney?
