Illuminating (and depressing) nugget about Kansas voters from state Republican Party chairman Tim Shallenburger in the Aug. 17 edition of The Johnson County Sun: “They may know who Phill Kline is and they may know who Kathleen Sebelius is . . . and I’m not sure more than 60 percent know them. You get beyond that, and they don’t even know there’s an election. I had a precinct person come in yesterday wanting to know when the primary was.” (It was Aug. 1.)

If they can’t follow the information enough to know when the primary was, I guess they really didn’t need to be voting, huh? That’s kindof scary.
Oh man the state of the American Public!! We are DOOMED.
I bet they knew exactly who won American Idol, and how many votes they got.
Repubs like to exploit these people, with their fancy slogans and illogical intiatives.
You know this kind of reminds me of my ex-roommate up in Manhattan, who touts Bush because hes a repub, but wouldnt know the issues if it slapped him in the face.
Heres an example (non-political). He was headed back to Denver for spring break and I told him to be careful coming back on Sunday, because a snow storm was forecasted. He said “thats supposed to be in KC” and I replied “well its going to come from Colorado, where most snowstorms come from when they hit KS”. He didnt believe me, and this touched off a really retarted debate about how weather travels across the United States. He didnt believe me that it was coming from Colorado. Needless to say it took them 12 hours to get home that Sunday, because of the snowstorm.
These are the type of thinkers who support Bush, but dont bother to read the newspaper, check the headlines, or read into the issues. They spout at the mouth about Kerry and Gore, but dont even realize their stance on certain issues is the same as theirs.
LoL I have been having a running battle with a bush supporter like that in the message boards. He took Bush saying that the wiretapping was only going on outside the U.S. And only against Known terrorists. No matter what I or anyones else said or shows him he still said he can not understand where we got the idea that the NSA is spying within the U.S. since Bush said they were not!
Writerdog! Care to show any proof that the NSA is wiretapping without warrents, innocent Americans within the borders of America?
And while you’re at it. Since the majority of Democrats believe that Bush ordered 9/11 to happen as a reason to go to war in Iraq for big oil, the grand conspriacy as they say. Can you show be proof of that as well.
OH Joe that I see is the big defense now. “Show me who what and where anyone has been tapped in the U.S.?”. When ever Congress has not been told that. Even the gang of eight has said they have not been given those details.
But of course the answer is that by their own addmision the wiretapping has been going on within the U.S. But it still amazes me when someone ask that question. It is like Bgame in the message board asking how I would know that terrorists would not be using their real names. Or using a name that even sounds like it would be middle eastern.
I give the answer because they are smarter then to ask such a stupid question.
What do you think there is this big fuss about terrorists being wiretapped? No if it was not for the illegal spying within the United States. This would all be a non-issue.
I know…I know, what makes me think it is illegal? It violates the law and the Constitution! That is what makes it illegal.
So what color is that horse?
I guess the Senate is guilty also WD, because they approved it and have oversight of the program.
Nah! Just blame it all on Bush.
Sigh,,,
Clearly Joe is in the mood to embarrass himself today….
Did Bush order the attack of 9-11? I have not heard any Democrats or Republican saying that! Did Bush ignore the warning signs? Pretty much! But It would not be that big a stretch I guess to think he might have order it. After all once you come to grasp with the conclusion that the President knowingly lied to take this country into an invasion. That took the eyes off of the terrorists that want to destroy this nation and put them on to a bit of war profiteering. Once you come to the extreme, what not would this President be capable of?
You want an interesting read? try “The secret History of the Iraq war” by Yossef_Bodansky
http://www.harpercollins.com/book/index.aspx?isbn=9780060736804
This is a frightening book, if the author is telling the truth there is far more to this whole story than anyone is telling. I have just read the first three chapters and it just now is getting to the invasion. Which it turns out was totally un-needed. It give graphic detail of a number of countries involvement in the run up to the invasion and how some of our “friends and allies” in the region are working to make sure the U.S. fails in this.
At first I thought it was going to be another “ Oh Bush is sooo great” books. But the picture you get from just the first three chapters paints a picture of a man whom is so stubborn. That he ignores even our closest allies. From the book, Bush was not lying in the sense he knew what he was saying was a lie in the truest sense. WMDs, Terrorists, all was true at one point but when it changed Bush’s message did not and he had been made aware that it was no longer the case. Both Bush and Saddam were played for fools by several countries Iran, Syria, Arafat. But it is a good read for a behind the scenes look at this conflict. Needless to say Iraq was not even a real player in the world of terrorism compare to Iran and Syria. Bin Laden is a kid with a pop gun compare to those calling the shots.
Joe I have always found you a smart if not at times misguided man, so I think you would be fair in your opinion of this book. Be warned it is a long book, but enlightening. Bodansky does have the right credentials to know what he is talking about. So far there is something to support both side of this issue and something’s that makes you shiver at just how little we know about the middle east and how things are going. The worst I am afraid to say is still to come and there seem little this country can do to stop it.Thanks to the invasion.
Joe how can you oversee something if you do not know what it is you are overseeing? all the members of the gang of eight have said that the biggest complain they have is that Bush is not fully forthcoming with the details of the NSA wire tapping!
“Since the majority of Democrats believe that Bush ordered 9/11 to happen as a reason to go to war in Iraq for big oil, the grand conspriacy as they say. Can you show be proof of that as well.”
Joe – can YOU show any proof of your absurd claim?
The poll found that a majority of young adults give at least some credence to a 9/11 conspiracy compared to less than a fourth of people 65 or older. Members of racial and ethnic minorities, people with only a high school education and Democrats were especially likely to suspect federal involvement in 9/11.
The survey was conducted by telephone from July 6-24 at the Scripps Survey Research Center at the University of Ohio under a grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation.
http://www.scrippsnews.com/911poll
“Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them “because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East.”"
The slight majority of young people gave “some credence” – not full belief.
That one-third figure is interesting in view of the fact that about a third of people believe that Iraqis flew the planes – a majority of Republicans think Saddam was behind it all.
Any proof of that absurd claim Ben? Because that isn’t in the article that I linked to.
Neither was your claim about “majority of Democrats”

The impact of Bush linking 9/11 and IraqAmerican attitudes about a connection have changed, firming up the case for war.
By Linda Feldmann | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
WASHINGTON – In his prime-time press conference last week, which focused almost solely on Iraq, President Bush mentioned Sept. 11 eight times. He referred to Saddam Hussein many more times than that, often in the same breath with Sept. 11.Bush never pinned blame for the attacks directly on the Iraqi president. Still, the overall effect was to reinforce an impression that persists among much of the American public: that the Iraqi dictator did play a direct role in the attacks. A New York Times/CBS poll this week shows that 45 percent of Americans believe Mr. Hussein was “personally involved” in Sept. 11, about the same figure as a month ago.

Wednesday, June 29, 2005; Posted: 9:12 a.m. EDT (13:12 GMT)
YORK (CNN) — A Republican congressman from North Carolina told CNN on Wednesday that the “evidence is clear” that Iraq was involved in the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
“Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11,” Rep. Robin Hayes said.

Linking Iraq with 9/11With war worries growing, the president evokes the attacks of 2001 in a speech he hopes will rally supportBY CRAIG GORDONWASHINGTON BUREAU
June 29, 2005
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — In the past, when sagging polls have put President George W. Bush in trouble, he has invoked the event that shaped his presidency to confront critics and rally public support, the Sept. 11 attacks.
He did it again last night, wrapping the Iraq war in the mantle of 9/11 to reject calls for an exit timetable and appeal for patience from an increasingly skeptical public. Never forget “the lessons of September the 11th,” Bush warned, or risk handing victory in Iraq to the likes of Osama bin Laden.

Published on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 by the Associated Press9/11 Commission: No Link Between Al-Qaida and Saddamby Hope YenWASHINGTON – Bluntly contradicting the Bush administration, the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks reported Wednesday there was “no credible evidence” that Saddam Hussein helped al-Qaida target the United States.
If a preceint worker was asking when the primary is going to be after it’s over – tells me the repubs. are not doing a good job of keeping their members informed. Then again, they only “inform” the far right and keep everyone else in the dark.

And after your conservative friend spent 12 hours in a blinding snowstorm just as you predicted, did he blame you for not SUPPORTING him enough?
If he had, he would be a true right winger.
Maybe not capn but I bet he blamed it on Clinton!
and probably used the whole experience as “proof” that there is no global warming!
Funny Stuff Capn,Ben, and JR.
He didnt say a word. Hes one of those unapologetic types. I think hes been heavily influenced by his boss who is a mid-40s white conservative male. He makes good money for his age, and he thinks the Bush tax cuts affect him which they dont because he makes less than 60k and he is single. Somewhere along the line somebody ingrained into his head that all Democrats do is give out hand-outs for votes and take rich peoples money away. Thats the arguement I get from most young naive republicans.
If they would read into things more they might have a change of opinion.
“He didnt say a word.”
Sounds like someone above who made crazy claims about Dems thinking 9/11 was an inside job when contrary information was presented. Especially all that stuff about republicans trying to tie Iraq with 9/11.
THE GOVERNOR PUT THE MINORITIES IN THE BACK OF THE BUS?SHE THINKS THAT A BEFORE PICTURE WITH THE GROUP ALLOWS HER TO TREAT THESE CHILDRENT THIS WAY. THE PARENTS OF THESE CHILDREN SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF OUR GOVERNOR!
http://kcbuzzblog.typepad.com/kcbuzzblog/2006/08/no_minorities_s.htmlAugust 21, 2006No minorities? Sebelius faces questionsWhere are the kids of color?Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius faced criticism today from an unexpected direction. Some Republicans were pointing fingers at her latest campaign ad — the one where she’s driving a Kansas school bus — and asking why no minority kids were shown in the spot.Indeed, a viewing of the spot (go here) doesn’t appear to reveal any Latino or African American students. And all of the pupils with speaking roles appear to be white. But a Sebelius spokeswoman, Nicole Corcoran, insisted that minority students were part of the shoot.”There were children of several different backgrounds on the bus,” she said.As proof, Corcoran sent over a pic of the governor with most of the kids who took part that day. Take a look for yourself.Among Republicans raising a ruckus was John Altevogt, former chair of the Wyandotte County GOP Central Committee.”While the ad doesn’t indicate the destination of Kathleen’s bus, one logical possibility is a segregated school since every face on Kathleen’s bus is a white face,” Altevogt wrote in an e-mail to Ron Freeman, executive director of the Kansas Republican Party.Posted by Steve Kraske02:27 PM in Kathleen Sebelius | Permalink
Give it a rest!!!
Sebelius in a Landslide this fall!!!
Barnett doesnt have a shot, and I think he knows it too.
I am sure that sebelius wanted to deflect attention from her treasonous pro-wetback stance. That is probally why the ad showed only happy, productive White children.
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
Good one Brian! It sounds like a good question for the Governor to respond to. After all she said the other day that English should be the official language of Kansas. I find that interesting especially since she promoted driver licenses for illegals and in state tuition for illegals. She is such a piece of work.
But I am sure she will have a great spin on this so she can slither back under her rock. This is just too funny!
What Gary C said.
Barnett has no chance.
No minorities in an ad campaign is newsworthy because…?
Nobody in the American government gives a goddamn fart in space about minorities anyway. We’re just used as political puppets by the likes of politicians to build up a facade of how PC they are! Either that or we make good cannon fodder. How many minorities are friends of Sebelius? How many minorities does she personally associate with? Does she bring over a mariachi band to sing America the Beautiful at her house during the 4th of July? None of these things are relevant since when you compare the living conditions of suburban predominantly white communities to inner-city predominantly “other” people communities you will find that the latter’s roads, housing, are comparable to 1945 Berlin… AFTER it was invaded by the Russians! Oh yeah, and please explain to me how in the latter’s school districts it takes 12 years to update their computers, TWELVE YEARS! While other school districts have state of the art computers in every classroom? Or why is it that in the latter’s case, classes are being taught in bathrooms, gymnasiums, and janitor’s closets for lack of space? Would you be surprised if I told you that these things happen in schools in New York City? NEW YORK CITY for Christ’s sake!So please, humour us with your empty promises of a better life, take pictures with grinning hispanic/black/asian children huddled around you, kiss a black baby in your next photo shoot for we are definitely amused with your beaner/nigger/fishhead friendly fiasco.
