Cal Thomas has a piece on today’s op-ed page reporting how “Armageddon is hot again,” given all the wars in the Middle East. And he notes how end-of-time “prophets” are making big profits. His conclusion: “The end isn’t yet upon us, because too many expect it.” And his advice to the faithful: “Stop worrying about dates and times.”

I think Bush is basing the nations debt on his end-time beliefs, doesn’t expect anyone to be around to have to pay the tab.
Not true steve. Real endtimers are even more evil. They are leaving the debt to be paid by those of us left behind.
Heheheh.
Does anyone remember the episode from Six Feet Under where some porn store lost their inflatable naked dolls to an updraft wind and some end timer church lady thought it was the rapture and ran into traffic so Jesus could see her and not leave her behind?
heheheheh. I guess you had to be there…
KFG-Yes I remember howling with laughter when I saw that…too dang funny.I miss that show.
I do too Julie. It was the only reason I subscribed to HBO! And when the Sopranos is finished, well, even the dykes on Deadwood wont get me to renew! Not unless they come up with something as good as Six Feet Under.
kfg – since presumably the doll was nude did she also strip when she ran into the street?
I watched part of an episode of Six Feed Under last week. Not sure what station it was on, but I’ll check.
There’s still Real Time…our reason for HBO. Which, btw, should be back on real soon.
Heheh Ben, I think she got whacked by a semi before she had the chance.
Everything predicted in the book of Revelations has already happened. The Babylonian exile and the fall of Rome where big events. We are a bit egocentric to assume everything is about us, in the here and now.The Bible is intended to help teach us how to live, not to explain how we got here or how we will leave.”You will not know the time or the day.”Having said that, I still prefer leaders who believe in the Judeo-Christian God over those who don’t believe at all, or those who believe they will get an endless supply of virgins when they “martyr” themselves or their country.
The never ending panhandling for money and this fixation on the “end times” is mostly why I gave up on church. All Religion in general just seems to be nothing but a big con game, jump thru this hoop get this reward, give x amount of money get this reward and so on.
The only things real about Bush are the dead bodies of children he’s leaving spattered all over the ground in Palestine and Lebanon.
Bush is not just stupid, he’s also insane.
One night on his radio show, I heard Joe Wright and Terry Fox talking about this end times hysteria. There was a violent thunderstorm raging outside.Pastor Joe was talking about how Jesus was “coming back for us in the clouds.”
I tried and tried to call in. Screener wouldn’t let me through.
I wanted to encourage Pastor Joe that night might be the night Jesus was coming in the clouds and that it might be a good idea for him and Pastor Terry to find a real high hill to go stand on. You know, so Jesus could see them! That funny aside, I grow concerned we have an armageddon believing pResident who may try to fullfil “prophesy”.
The Neo-Cons that push this end-times prophesy are the same ones making millions of dollars off the dumb fools buying their books and videos. Maybe it is more about the MONEY than real religion?
Mark this date on the calendar. Paul just posted something I agree with. Paul sees it. Biblical scholars see it. Why can’t the wingnuts see it?
“Left Behind” is fiction. It ain’t gonna happen that way, folks. But we need to be very afraid because there’s a bunch of wingnuts who are doing everything they can to bring Endtimes.
Oh, Paul, the usurper, I am so glad you know the totality of the book of revelations. Everything has happened? You know this for a fact? God spoke to you, and in your infinate wisdom you decided to grace us with the glory of your written words?
The later part of your post I agree with; the first part is pure Paul hogwash.
JM and XXX are not in agreement with one another??JM, The Catholic Church, Orthodox, and most mainline Protestants (Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal) are of the view that the Book of Daniel and Revelations predictions have already happened. Please post an authority from one of these faiths who disagrees and I will humbly eat my words.
Oh wellXXX, I have a big mark on my day planner, with XXX on it.Nice to know that you arent knee jerk in your responses.I will try to learn from your example on that point.Better tell my family what the xxx is or they will think it might be prophetic.
I read long ago that there were a loy of end-timers at the end of the first milleneum. They thought that the terms of revelation (as they understood it) had been met. Didn’t happen. Don’t think it is this time either.
Nostradamus’ predictions are all coming true too – at least according to those who say so.
Yup, lotsa profiteering. Amazing how many yokels will eat up Al Gore’s ‘The End is Near’ schtick.
BenI think Nostradamus is very interesting. However, Pen and Teller are right: who has ever said, before something happened, that Nostradamus had predicted it? All the “proof” has so far been “Monday morning quarterbacking” — with the exception, maybe, of that King that lost the joust.— And what good is a “prophet” if you don’t understand the prophecy until after it happens??
Hey, Ed – All your posts on the other thread are gone. I think the Wordwide Jew Conspiracy is on to you. Pass it on to Ian!
Paul.I use your own quotes: “”You will not know the time or the day.”"It would seem that while religions may or may not agree on the book of revelations, and whether or not all “predictions” have happened, no one, via your own quotes, knows.
Everything, and I mean by all religions, prophets, evangelicals, etc, that has or has not transpired in acordance with the book of Daniels and/or the book of revelations is a guess at best.
The words, “No one knows the mind of God’” ring truer than you might think. So who are you to say you do? As usual, you are babbeling nonsense.
Oh, and where exactly do XXX and I disagree? He was stating his agreement with the latter part of your post. He said nada about the first. Again, you read things into posts that just arn’t there.
JMThen I share that “nonsense” -ical view with the majority of living Christians. The vast majority of denominations (and faithful) think that Daniel and Revelations have happened. (That is, if they are following their own leaders.)I do not expect others to adhere to my views, but my views certainly are not unique.(Usually I take shots for not being unique, nice to be thought of as an “original thinker” on something but I can’t accept that prize here.)
I think the Democrats are the biggest “end times” people. Chicken Little!
Paul,
You interpretation of the bible is flawed. Also, stop using the term Judeo-Christian, it ain’t right.
V.L.R.B!!
Just in case anyone misunderstands, In saying that Daniel and Revelations have happened, I mean that they happened nearly 2000 years ago with the fall of the Biblical Israel and the fall of Biblical Rome.
Santiago;”Judeo-Christian” is a very appropriate term for Western culture, especially the United States.James McClung of Virginia was the ONLY member of the Constitutional Convention who did NOT tith to at least one Christian Church. (Many gave to more than one denomination.) McClung was probably not Jewish, not much is known about him. However, there were several Masons among our founders. Masonry ceremonies are based on ancient Jewish rituals, and the whole point of the “order” is to blur the lines between different faiths and find common ground. No, I am not a Mason, but several of my very good friends are. I suggest you watch the History Channel, it has a great segment on Free Masonry and the Founders running right now.And of course, Jesus and all the original Apostles (save PAUL) were Jewish!Judeo-Christian is a very appropriate term.
Paul,No one, especially myself, is putting you in a class containing “original thinkers”. In fact, I would put you in a class of usual followers. If you recall the dark ages, people were tortured and killed for “original thought” contrary to church doctrine.
Religions have not, in my mind, been leaders in the fields of science, nor have they shown their infallability in the field of biblical interpretation. So I take their “interpretation” the book of Daniel and the book of revelations have already happened with a grain of salt.
I also, with current findings about the bible itself, have my doubts as to what the revelations refer to in the first place, and if they have any place in the bible itself: they may be ramblings of mad men for all we know.
I will agree that if the earth were to end today, so what? Shit happens, then there is no more shit. Except with the human race, there will always be shit, especially where riligions are concerned:

Paul, JM and I are close friends. We don’t agree on everything. In fact, we dissagree on a lot of things. Friends wouldn’t be very interesting if they always agreed on everything.
XXX has to do with size. I’m a big guy. Tell the family not to sweat it.
JM, most Biblical scholars agree with what Paul said. Most of the Endtimes nonsense and the Rapture are pure crap. It probably has already gone down.
Look it up.
“Masonry ceremonies are based on ancient Jewish rituals”
Uh, no. Not even close.
My girlfriend is an activist Democrat from another state, with national connections. Our relationship is VERY interesting.I agree with you.
Todd,I was basing that on what I saw on the Hitory Channel, the Masons and the Jewish ritual stuff. Also, my College Fraternity, I am told, had an initiation ceremony at one time that I was told was similar to a Masonic ritual, this by a Mason and frat brother. Anyway, no disrespect to Masons was intended.— the point was only that Revolutionary Masons were not at all hostile to the Jewish Faith. That would be Franklin, Washington, Hancock and a few others, I think 7 Convention members, at least.

Sorry, Paul. I misread what you said. Masonry does indeed trace its roots to King Solomon’s temple.
JackStraw,
“Yup, lotsa profiteering. Amazing how many yokels will eat up Al Gore’s ‘The End is Near’schtick.”
Wrong title, and Gore is only one of the messengers.
Joe Williams,
“I think the Democrats are the biggest “end times” people. Chicken Little!”
Are you referring to human-caused global warming? If so, many of your “Chicken Little” people are not U.S. “Democrats”. And these scientists are not “yokels”.
All these groups agree with the IPCC’s findings:Academia Brasiliera de Ciências (Brazil), Royal Society of Canada, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academié des Sciences (France), Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (Germany), Indian National Science Academy, Accademia dei Lincei (Italy), Science Council of Japan, Russian Academy of Sciences, Royal Society (United Kingdom), Australian Academy of Sciences, Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Arts, Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Indonesian Academy of Sciences, Royal Irish Academy, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Academy Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand, and Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The State of the Canadian Cryosphere (SOCC) and Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS).(I’ve omitted the many U.S. groups)
IPCC includes scientists worldwide — the “I” = International. A long list of some of them,http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc_tar/wg1/558.htm
Humans HAVE caused global warming.I hope those who deny it today live long enough to be forced to admit they’re wrong.
My bad,IPCC = *Intergovernmental* Panel on Climate Change.
ToddI appreciate the civil tone of your last post.ThanksPaul
I was ten y.o. and we were visiting my grandpa. The moon landing was on T.V. I was setting on the floor in front of grandpa and dad when Grandpa said “You know Bernie it is not so bad for you and me. We have had our lives, but it sure is a shame that the boy will never have a chance to live life!”.
Grandpa’s preacher had said that if man ever set foot on the moon the world would end soon after.Oh I am sure it will, I have a great deal of faith that we (the human race) will find a way to really screw things up. But so far thirty eight years later I have had a good life. I miss Grandpa!
No cosmos! I’m talking about the Democrats saying the Bush destroyed the nation, everybody is starving to death, unemployment is 80% and those who are employeed are filthy rich people.
“Masonry ceremonies are based on ancient Jewish rituals”
Paul, you’ve obviously never set foot in a Blue Loge.
Todd, do we have mutual interests in the East?
Joe, you need to ease up on the hooch (or drugs). Show me where Democrats said”everybody is starving to death”or that”unemployment is 80%”or”those who are employed are filthy rich people”.
Or you could just admit you lied.
You just shoot your mouth off, but don’t back it up. I’m calling you out.Put up or shut up.
Dude! You have no clue! Are you that anal?
I was making a statement of perception.
I guess you STILL believe that Bush destoryed the country right? I notice you left that out.
I could post that Joe lies alot. He did that about me and never showed where.
I say Joe posts from ignorance. As I showed on the Gibson thread today.
Joe would be well advised to better research and think before he posts. He would come off maybe a lot less silly.
Typing while Joe probably does.
Prediction. Joe will now lash out.
JR! You’re the lier.
AGAIN! I was making a statement of perception. Do you guys know the difference? It’s like you guys saying that Bush destroyed the country and is putting people out of work. Well! Prove it then!
I posted an article from a TRUE news source, not a blog, that clearly states Mel Gibson’s hate and discontent towards President Bush. That is a Democrat.
Still on the unemployment line? You still haven’t cleared that up. What is funny I just talk to a guy from Raytheon today and I ask him if machinist are getting laid off lately. He said “Hell No. They’re hiring!”
I guess you did something wrong there JR!
OR disappear as he did from the minimum wage thread after he called me a liar and asserted I wanted fellow posters to die.
I guess you can’t give out your real name JR! Afraid what I can dig up and find?
I said he would lash out and he did.
Run away, back yourself up melt down or apologize Joe.
I see Joe chooses “melt down”
I ignore you most of the time JR! Like most everybody else.
Should I re-post your e-mail to me?
FROM JR:
“Before I go on, let me be clear that I hate conservatives. Most especially I hate bush conservatives. I afford them no quarter on this forum and I ask none.”
“Hank Price I despise. Nathan I despise.”
Just wanted to remind people that Nathan is in the military proudly serving in Iraq.
Just proves to you that JR hates our men and women in the military.
Where am I a liar Joe?
I asked you earlier and on another thread when you called me that. Will you run away here as well?
You’re the one that constantly busts my chops. I just don’t take crap from bullies.
Especially ones that make it a point to trash conservatives (by the way, I’m not even one).
You’re a borderline troll JR!
Wow what a class act you are Joe! I took a personal attack you made on me to private email ……..a VERY long time ago. And here AGAIN you air it for all to see?
Whatsa matter Joe? You are really reaching for evidence that I’m a bad guy. Where have I attacked you here? I have attacked your posts.
Are you so at a loss you need to dig up something I said months ago in a vain attempt to bring you allies to “legitimize” you?
Hey we can talk the past if you like. Maybe ’cause you can’t defend YOUR posts?
Don’t make me do this to you Joe.
Is XXX a “borderline troll” too Joe? He took you to task here.
Oh Gawd! I hate doing this! But if you insist!
“Oh wait I said you hate farmers, unions, Christians and poor people.
And YOUR posts pretty much back that up!
JOE?”
Posted by: J R | August 02, 2006 at 08:54 AM
MY RESPONSE:
“Just admit that I’m right and you’re wrong.
Sure! I question the farm subsidy program. Sure! I question christian churches that violate campaign laws. Sure! I question the importance of Unions in today’s marketplace. What’s wrong with that?”
Posted by: Joe Williams | August 02, 2006 at 08:40 AM
_——————————
Notice the time difference! I responded much eariler than you. But my statement,(you would be an idiot not to agree) does not show any hate towards farmers and christians. I just mearly question them.
But you spinned it like I hate them. You’re ridiculous.
I notice that all you do is follow me around from thread to thread just to personally attack me whenever you get a chance.
Nope! XXX is cool with me! He isn’t a troll! He was fair in questioning me like that, although I thought he should have known all I was doing was a propaganda exaggerated perception of Democrats reponses.
It the same with Democrats saying that Republicans detory the country, they steal from poor people and etc. If you’re going to be anal about it, then post links to fact and figures showing it. We all know that we are making a statement, not trying to quote scientifically derived figures.
It’s politics! It’s always like that. If it wasn’t. It would be boring and nobody would care or pay attention.
I attack misconceptions, lies, and false assertions Joe.
It is not my fault that you feel victimized because I catch you in them!
If you would like examples of your ATTACKS on farmers, unions, and Christians I can find them.
Prove it JR! YOu post exact quotes from me that shows that I attack farmers.
When I see farmers smoking at a gasoline station playing KENO. I’m not lieing. I’m physically there dude! I see it with my own eyes, ears, and nose.
I’m not pulling anything out my butt!
Nice try! Go again!
If XXX is fair, why didn’t you answer HIM instead of attacking me?
So ALL farmers are the ones you have seen JOE?
GO ahead make my arguement for me. Saves me a bonedig.
I’ve worked at Cessna on the factory floor under Union Contract for three years.
I’m not making a statement against union workers for the hell of it. I worked right beside them, shoulder to shoulder! I smelled the whiskey on their breath. The people who are meth addict with all the open sores all over their body, still working there. I had a foreman that died at the age of 41 from Cocain overdose. I had another foreman that got busted with a lot of cocain in the trunk of his car.
Remember that Mexican guy that killed and chopped up the two other guys and tried to burn up the parts in Crowley County. He owned a bar on S. Oliver. His name is Jay Garcia. I worked with that guy. He was a union steward and he was a crew chief.
I worked with bad people and my perception is that the more hard core Union they are, the more they were bad employees. The ones that wear Union shirts and have union stickers all over their rollaways.
As always! It’s not all, but it is disapportionantly true for the most part. I observed it and it’s no secret. That is why I called you out to tell me that not everybody in Raytheon (union workers) that you know weren’t all that hunky dory as well. You don’t answer.
I also think that collective bargaining is an andequated labor practice and that’s opinion.
I say you owe XXX an answer Joe. Do that. I’ll wait.
Again Joe you paint with a broad brush. And you ARE a judgemental fellow!
I already answered XXX!
Nope! Not all farmers. You will find me saying in numorous post that I respect farmers that farm without subsidies. I know one down near Mulvane that grows melons, strawberries and pretty much an assortment of garden fruits and veggies.
I know farmers that grow non-irrigated grain sorghum that don’t take a dime of subsidies and pay farm help well and ones that only have legitimate documents.
I also ran into a farmer who is on the CRP gravy train and was complaning to me that the government is going to far asking him to take down his border fence to allow wildlife to run back and forth. He didn’t want to do that, even though the government is paying him not to grow anything and turn his land back to wild for the sake of the enviroment and wildlife.
It is not my wish to destroy you Joe. But if you wish to destroy yourself I will help you.
You know, like I tried to help you better research and moderate your posts.
And you STILL have not answered XXX!
I’M the BULLY?
Joe,
Well EXCUSE me! Your VERY terse post less than an hour after Jackstraw’s attack on Gore looked like you were AGREEING with him.
And “Chicken Little” has been used to attack Gore’s GW warning message.
I’m not a mind reader — so post words please.
Yes I am judgemental. Everybody is! You develop a sense of awareness about people. It might not be true about that person, but for the most part, you’re right!
They say trust your instincts, because it’s usually right most of the time.
I have my beliefs and opinions and I have my perceptions about people. Who doesn’t!
You think I’m a blithering idiot! I think you’re a troll that loves slamming on people who are not leftist leaning Democrat liberals like yourself.
I however am really stubborn and will fight back. I never let a bully get away with anything, either it was directed towards me or an innocent bystander.
I have proved you wrongheaded on more than one occasion Joe.
Maybe you should listen to me as opposed to attacking me.
I’ve “got your back” before Joe. When did you ever get mine?
I’ll leave you to cosmos for a bit. Engage cosmos.
I don’t wish to be accused of being a bully. So settle with cosmos and I will be here.
I only counterattack.
You haven’t proved anything.
Honestly JR! I don’t know why I even have to respond as much as I do. All I’m doing is going around in circles.
You’ll just do this again and again, and I have to repost again and again! But this is between me and you. Nobody else cares about our scwabble. All we are doing is taking up too much space and going off topic from this tread.
Short and sweet! We’re just wasting each others time.
So answer cos.
I’ll wait.
Cosmos! Just relaying a message that political parties will use “Chicken Little” statements for political agenda.
Just to make things clear!
Chicken Little is a fable that applies that the sky is falling. Or a confirmed pessimist, particularly one who warns of impending disaster.
That disaster can mean among many thing, but not inclusive and varies with political persuasion to: Global Warming, Finanical Bankrupsty, Starvation, Political Discontent, the elemination of personal freedoms and rights, world war, white elephant projects and so on. Take you’re pick.
You said Democrats were “chickenlittles” Joe.
Oh I’m sorry. I promised to leave you at cosmos’s mercy.
I’ll be quiet a bit.
And Cosmos! Just to let you know I answered you many post back.,
—————-
No cosmos! I’m talking about the Democrats saying the Bush destroyed the nation, everybody is starving to death, unemployment is 80% and those who are employeed are filthy rich people.
Posted by: Joe Williams | August 02, 2006 at 09:58 PM
JR! They are! So are Republicans!
You feel better?
Cos comes back you are all his? Joe.
Sans that. Resume your assault on me. Or was it defense of yourself?
Hey Joe?
How many times have you shown ME wrong. Care to weigh them against the times I have shown you wrong?
Joe,
“That [Chicken Little] disaster can mean among many thing, [a VERY LONG list]… and so on. Take you’re pick.”
Thanks for making my point!
It’s your responsibility to say which one(s) from that long list when you FIRST posted:”I think the Democrats are the biggest “end times” people. Chicken Little!”
And, since you put Global Warming 1st in your list, I choose it! Your 9:58 PM post is bogus!
JOE: “I posted an article from a TRUE news source, not a blog, that clearly states Mel Gibson’s hate and discontent towards President Bush. That is a Democrat.”
So Jou, you believe that all R’s feel love and contentment for Bush? Checked any approval polls recently?
Joe,
JR has emailed me and expressed his concern about my not being fair to you. He convinced me that he was right, and because of that I apologized to you when I thought I was out of line.
JR is more of your friend that you seem to know.
It is possible for you guys to agree to disagree, isn’t it?
I am sorry Joe did not better afford you an answer cosmos.
Joe is kinda pre-occupied with what a bully I am. That is a reaction I get from conservatives when I challenge them.
Joe? You and I go WAY back. No doubt we will go WAY forward. I DO hope your debate improves. I have encouraged you.
But you owe cosmos and XXX answers Joe. I’ll leave you to them. And see you again. DO try to better research before you post. I feel bad embarassing you so.
Mine crossed with Stevens.
What Steven says is true Joe.
I don’t think you are a bad person. You attack and attack me and all I attack is your posts. Work on them not me!
Peace!
There are those working to bring “end times”. Fight them not me.
Debates rarely find the truth when rushed, and/or done in anger. That’s one reason why scientists use the peer-review process, to try to chew out the truth.
Joe, you don’t need to give me an answer… but please think about my points, okay? Thank you.
“hate and discontent towards President Bush. That is a Democrat.”
uh joe, not everyone who hates bush and is discontented with how he has ruined this country is a democrat.
heheh
If that were true, dems would control both houses right now.
I didn’t ‘attack’ Al Gore, merely pointed out that he has had an apocalyptic vision. And of course I know the name of the greatest documentary of all time; the reference to an ‘The End is Near’ sign is contained in about five thousand comic strips I’ve seen in my lifetime.
You enviros get very touchy about certain things. It’s almost like someone’s mocking your religion. ;)
I see the conservative republicans are all huddled up here on this thread. Hmmmm…
keeping warm after hitting the cold cruel air of rejection on Tuesday?
Licking each others wounds?
Hiding from the truth?
Come on you guys and grab your buddies and come over to the Connie “I got my butt kicked” Morris thread where the fun is happening.
Get it over with now, and it wont hurt so much later on….
Did something happen on Tuesday? I must have missed it. I guess I’ll have to turn in my ultra-right-wing-religous-right-nut-job membership because I wasn’t even sufficiently motivated to vote. My preacher mighta told me to go, but outside of weddings and funerals, I haven’t been to a church service in almost 30 years.
We count the marbles in November, KSG. Might as well start looking for real estate in France now. And don’t forget your chador and burka; I hear things are changing a little over there.
heheh. Yeah, right.
You are gonna turn things around before November? You are gonnna defeat Sebelius?
Very good imitation of studied nonchalance. I wonder what you would be saying if the results had been different yesterday.
And where has joeblowjob been?
heheheheh
Popping the popcorn right now…
And I am not looking at real estate in France. It is Spain and South Africa.
Two nations with better human rights records than the u.s.
France? Not so much, but I did see your guys in congress finally gave up the freedom fries bullshit yesterday.
Too bad they cant come up with REAL solutions instead of playing with their food.
Juveniles
Every day is “end time” for someone. The only “second coming” will be those on Viagra.
Juvenile? The people who came up with Freedom Fries, or the people who are still grinding their teeth over it four years later?
I’m a little bummed. I loved having Freedom Fries with my Salisbury Steak.
And I didn’t vote Tuesday, because I had no interest in determining who the sacrifical lamb to Governor Leadership (heh) would be. Or interest in any other ‘race’. I’m surviving quite well under Governor Leadership (though she’s got little or nothing to do with it, as it should be). There’s a lot more to life than giving yourself a stroke over politics.
“And I didn’t vote Tuesday”
I think that just about says it all for Jack Straw. Do you work for Diebold? Do you already know how the elections will turn out?
“There’s a lot more to life than giving yourself a stroke over politics”
heheheheheh. More studied nonchalance. I wonder if that is what Jack Straw would be saying if his heros had WON on Tuesday?
Sure, no need to get worked up about a little thing like the future of this state and nation.
“move along here, nothing to see”
… and where oh where might Lauren R. Bandler be?
You know lauren, he of the “you liberals arent worth giving your life for” christian charity?
Bedwetters.
Fair weather conservatives.
Oh yeah, and your mothers dress you funny too….
hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee
(farmgrrl throws out more bait to see what rises to the surface)
OK, I’ll bite (again). Is it so beyond the realm of possibility to you that I didn’t vote in Tuesday’s primary and didn’t care a whit about the results? From the limited exposure I got from their radio ads, they all pretty much mumbled the standard claptrap, I presume they’re all now united against the great Democratic evil, and none of them would have beaten Sebelius, in all probability. Why should I waste my time and/or lose sleep over it?
I would’ve had no idea who my ‘hero’ was supposed to have been anyway. I’m guessing Canfield, since he seems to have attracted the most bile. He didn’t win? Yawn
Of course I care about the future of this state and this nation. I’ll of course vote in November, and cast my ballot for whoever-it-was-that-won-the-primary-and-will-lose-to-Sebelius. It’ll do about as much good as you Dems casting a vote for the Democratic presidential nominee here in red-state Kansas. But at least I’ll feel like I did my part.
My admonishment not to take it too seriously is for your benefit, not mine. I managed to make it through eight years of Clinton/Gore hell without going through with my assassination plans, just as you’ve made it through almost six years of the Bushitler regime.
I’ve gone into many elections listening to Democratic braggadocio, and it hasn’t panned out for them in some time (though even blind pigs find acorns every now and then). I’ll admit things look bad for the Republicans right now. But just as the Bible-thumpers have faith in prophecy, and the enviros have faith in Science (throwback to the actual topic), I have faith in the Dems to screw up any advantage they might have at the current point in time. If they don’t, we’ll always have true patriots like the Swift Boat Vets to bring out the Truth about them (do you hear the bars of the moonbat cage rattling, KFG?..hehe)
Clinton era never had a budget surplus.
To be fair! The Bush Administration has a serious budget deficit.
“The Clinton administration reported a surplus of $559 billion in its final four budget years. The audited numbers showed a deficit of $484 billion. ”
On Bush Administration:
The set the government promotes to the public has a healthier bottom line: a $318 billion deficit in 2005.
The set the government doesn’t talk about is the audited financial statement produced by the government’s accountants following standard accounting rules. It reports a more ominous financial picture: a $760 billion deficit for 2005. If Social Security and Medicare were included — as the board that sets accounting rules is considering — the federal deficit would have been $3.5 trillion.

(farmgrrl reels in the fish, looks at it, decides it is too small, throws it back in)
“Too hot to fish, too hot for golf, and too cold at home…”
heheheheheheheheh
JackStraw,
“I didn’t ‘attack’ Al Gore, merely pointed out that he has had an apocalyptic vision.”
Gore did not have a “vision” of a violent struggle in which evil will be destroyed.
His “vision”, based on a very strong international scientific consensus, is trying to avoid a global climate crisis.
You can easily find proof that the climate crisis has already started — record yearly global temps the last decade, night-time temps warming more than day, most warming in northern latitudes, glacier and ice caps melting faster, polar bears drowning, more forest fires, droughts, heat waves, coral bleaching, etc..
You posted earlier: “Yup, lotsa profiteering. Amazing how many yokels will eat up Al Gore’s ‘The End is Near’ schtick.”
So anyone who wants to try to keep our Earth’s climate from going crazier, reduce energy costs, cut pollution, get away from oil, etc are rural bumpkins?
Wal-Mart, Schwarzenegger, and everyone trying to prevent climate crisis are rural bumpkins?
I’d say anyone who ignores the climate crisis is irresponsible and heartless.
We’ve got only ONE Earth, and global warming is going to cause severe problems.
Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson has announced he now believes humans are causing global warming.Maybe he will stop describing odd weather as biblical events?
Robertson is on board against Global warming?
Well that would be good AND bad news. He has lotsa followers but some things he has said in the past make him look like a nut.
Ya know cos. That little statement from Jackstraw jumped out at me too. But then Joe Williams happened and then there are my duties holding Paul F Rosells leash! So I have been negligent.
Jackstraw?
“Yup, lotsa profiteering. Amazing how many yokels will eat up Al Gore’s ‘The End is Near’ schtick.”
Jack? Why don’t you ask Joe Williams (not picking on ya Joe) how much money Gore is making off his documentary? Not too long ago, with the help of a poster called Jan, I proved to Joe that Gore is making NOTHING off this effort. In fact, it was the original intent of the film company that produced “An Inconvenient Truth” that all profits from the film would go to an organization dedicated to fighting global warming. That company was acqired by Paramount……in order to get the film a wider release. But a significant portion of the profits is still pledged to fight global warming.
Anyways, the comparison with “end timesers” is fallacious. Global warming is something we might be able to stop and some folks are trying. The “rapture” end of the world is something a few folks are HOPING for. Maybe including your pResident.
