The Department of Homeland Security admittedly has an almost impossible task in trying to screen airport passengers, but do the new restrictions really hold water?
For instance, all liquid is now banned except for "limited amounts of baby milk, personal prescription medicine and personal insulin. Four ounces of non-prescription medicine will be allowed as well," according to this article.
Do we really think terrorists aren’t sophisticated enough to change the contents of prescription medicine or insulin?
Moreover, all passengers — every single one — must now remove their shoes. Is it really a good use of limited security resources to require every 85-year-old granny from Peoria to remove her shoes?
And why does the Transportation Security Administration allow iPods, laptops and other electronic devices on board when British authorities don’t? Shouldn’t the rules be the same?
What do bloggers think?

Other than feeling silly yet thankful that I travel in shoes that are easy to slip off, the shoe thing isn’t a big deal.
And thinking about it, the only problem I have with the liquid thing is that my carry-on luggage contains many of things I want with me should my other luggage get lost. I’d really hate to have to replace my make-up. It isn’t cheap. The new regs just mean I’ll have to rethink when I fly. A definite nuisance.
Do y’all know that you should try to wear natural fabrics when you fly, in case of fire? Sythetic fabrics will melt to your skin.
As for electronic devices, I guess it would be possible to rig one to detonate an explosion in the luggage bay. On the other hand, if make-up is expensive to replace, having a computer lost would make a lot of people, especially those flying on business, really hot if diverted to some other city instead of being there when they disembarked.
That’s my thoughts, as unbrilliant as they are.
I don’t see why, when I’m wearing sandals, I still need to take them off for inspection. Am I hiding some bomb underneath a strap?
None of these restrictions would faze a dedicated terrorist. Their only purpose is to convince a gullible public that the govt is actually doing something other than sitting around with it’s thumb up it’s ass!
Time to start profiling.
Steve makes a point. What is the alternative but a form of profiling. And is that necessarily a bad thing? We’ll continue to grapple with this issue until we all fly nude. lgp
Explosives can be detected by both dogs and machine olfactory devices. I have no idea what purpose taking the shoes off serves.
It makes better sense to drop the support for the only “terrorist group, the Israelis, who generate so-called “terrorism” and have America make peace with the Arabs whom the the Israelis “victimized.”
A blind man could see that with his cane.
What the Israelis have done to Lebanon shows their true colors for all the world to see and the world sees it and condemns what they’ve done.
That brutal unprovoked assault, in violation of international law, had nothing to do with self-defense, but rather just an exercise in cruelty by crazed psychopaths.
Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers to trade for women and children being held in Israeli jails and instead of doing the right thing, the Israelis fired artillery shells, containing cluster bomblets into Lebanese Villages.
The invasion and destruction of Lebanon, over 500 targets, had been planned well in advance, so the captured soldiers were just an excuse.
Support for the Israelis has cost too many American lives and too much American money.
Worldwide prestige for America has been lost due to our support of such a disgracefully brutal group of murdering thugs.
Israel is the root cause of so-called “terrorism” and if we stop funding them terrorism will simply go away, allowing the world to return to normal.
Bush was more interested in who won than what happened.
Bush and his Neocons are not in their right minds.
It all make sense because we can’t profile in our politically correct enviroment.
We have to live with it.
No we don’t. We just need people to see the obvious. Without ridding ourselves of Israel there is no end in sight.
Israel is the root cause of “terrorism” the action, and “Terrorism” the dumb man’s slogan.
And before you start, this is nothing about or to do with the Jewish religion, it’s what a few murdering secular psycopaths are doings.
It’s all about greed.

Aligning ourselves with the Zionists of Israel has reversed American morality. Expediency rather than principle now trumps our behavior and instead of trying to end so-called “terrorism” we’re funding it, perpetuating it, and furnishing the weapons, with no stipulation that they not be used on women and children.
Disassociating America from Israel and making peace with the Arabs on only our terms will bring peace and the Arabs will deal with their fringe violent elements as do we.
There is no future for peace or financial stability on our current course.
Ed killed the thread.
Like a turd in the punch bowl.
La Shawn Barber has some thoughts on profiling. Interested in what others think. lgp http://blogginoutloud.blogspot.com/2006/08/talkin-points-081506.html
A turd { bullet-boy } in a bunch bowl means little {9mm} Todd decided to go for a swim { probably still looking for his mommy }.
Your insults are sooo hurtful, Eddie. You poor, deluded little man.
FU
LOL – FU2
whats the matter Ed to stupid to spell Fuck?
Ed-I’ll still send you an X-mas card even though you confuse the hell out of me!
Dingus, you and little Todd are useless. You offer nothing. Why not a least try to make a point.
Dingus,
Were I you, I would shy away from the word STOOOPID!!
V.L.R.B!!
gster, Thanx for the xmas card but confuse you in what way?
There really isn’t any point to arguing with a lunatic, is there, Eddie? No matter what anyone says, you and your brownshirt henchman Ian are just going to point to Israel and say “It’s all their fault”. Which anyone with half a brain sees right through.
So no, I will just continue to heckle you and literally laugh out loud when you fleck your monitor with outraged spittle. LOL
Ian, Considering that i can at least spell stupid i think that have one up one you. I know I’m way smarter than your father, too stupid to do a simple wire transfer to save his family fortune. Too busy being Meyer Lanskeys “fluffer” to save his hotel business? Ed I think we discusses your father issues on another thread, still suffering some trauma?
You don’t want to argue because you’ve already lost. And you know it. so FO
Such name-calling! It is quite sad that you folks think it substitutes for discourse.
Finally! A visit from the blog monitor.
Thanks, QC.
Last weeks threat was another tactic by the Bush admin. to scare the American public. It has been reported that the British authorities were wanting more time to track the suspects and gather evidence, because some suspects had not even obtained passports yet. The U.S. authorities did not agree, and told them to make the arrests sooner. You see theres a pattern to this nonsense!!. Every time bad news is reflected towards the Admin. another high level threat comes about. It is documented here in this 13 or so minute report from Keith Olberman
http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/08/14/olbermann-the-nexus-of-politics-and-terror/
Hence why I roll my eyes every time a major terror threat is unveiled.
Problem with profiling is that once the people you’re trying to profile catch on, it’s easy enough to defeat it.
