Different role for Goter

After 17 years at KPTS, Channel 8, as public affairs editor and host of "Kansas Week," a discussion of state politics with news makers, Dale Goter is leaving the station next month to become chief legislative lobbyist for the city of Wichita.
Goter has earned a reputation for evenhandedness and fairness during his long journalistic career — and that should serve him and Wichita well in his new position, as should his vast knowledge of Kansas politics and his familiarity with most Kansas politicians.
Let’s just hope KPTS finds another able host who will keep Kansas politics in the public eye.

…and he might be one of the FEW people on the 13th floor to actually EARN his six figure salary!

Dale Goter knows more about Kansas Government than anybody I can think of. He should be the next Governor of Kansas. Then Kansas would have a real Governor who actually knows what is going on — to question and criticize!

MR. C! Why not you take Dale spot?

I’ve met Dale several times. He’s a cool guy and I’m actually one of the few people that watch Kansas Week, Ask your Legislator, and On the Record.

I hope he does real good for Wichita. God knows we really need it. Since the rest of the State is pretty hostile towards us, we need a straight talker and a good mover in there to help successfully lobby our needs in the Legislature.

He need to crack the whip rounding up our local legislators to INCLUDE Wichita in casino license consideration. Casino downtown would be preferable than one out near Park City or Wild West World area. Dee Stuart’s shrill should quiet down now.

Goter needs to keep an eye on other counties using Star Bonds. Olathe wanting LegoLand Park, huge project to spur development.

Wynadotte county changed the rules of Star bonds to damage Wichita’s efforts to get a Bass Pro shop, Cabela’s needling forcing that to happen. I wouldn’t have supported that much public investment. Gander Mountain is enough.

When the arena is finished, county, city govs and investors need to use Star Bonds clearing land for a new stadium. The state should be involved in that stadium, it will affect tourism. Topeka’s ability to bring events to Kansas and they happen in Wichita as it should be.

Tied in to state, county, city supporting the airport subsidies.

To help bring more people to Kansas for events, we need a stadium that is competitive and distinct regionally. The process will bring back WSU football.

Goter should get to know the Regents. It would be nice for Wichita to play KU and Kstate in basketball at Koch arena. Their dodging WSU is weak. Events in Wichita, hammer that in Topeka to anyone who will listen.

What else do we need, always the Wichita school issues in Topeka. Bash head’s of local legislators not helping in that process. Stuck on their asinine politics instead of being understanding to what this community needs.

We didn’t the push for more guns on the street. Our Police Departments didn’t want that bill. Seemed like their wants didn’t matter.

If we voted for more money for police and their materials like camera’s in cars, more detectives, did we fix the coroner’s office?

Let trained people carry guns. We may not have enough police on the streets is the problem. They need new radio’s all the time apparently. Communications are important.

Those terrible shootings at Quicktrips, I wonder if a gun carrier would have tried to shoot those criminals, more mayhem that might have happened. We’ll likely see that happen.

I hope Goter is pro Wichita more than our local legislators are.

Don’t get me started on our local legislative delegation. If the dumbasses would ever, EVER start working together, Wichita would be THE power in the state. But nooooo, that would be too much like being an adult who represents his/her area rather than some narrow religious/financial/whatever view.Look up the word pathetic in the dictionary and you’ll find pictures of Wichita’s legislative delegation.Make fun of Dee Stuart all you want, but she does more in a month for her city that the entire Wichita delegation does during the session. She gets stuff done.

Lets write-in “Dale Goter for Kansas Governor” in November election. Among advantages, no lieutenant governor and no political advisors would be needed. And Goter could conduct fireside chats from Cedar Crest Mansion on Friday evenings.

What are we going to do without him on Friday nights? I’m gonna miss him. Shame he has gone over to the other side.

Now as Dale Goter leaves behind some 17 years as a Friday evening TV political show host on KTPS public television, can anyone say whether Dale was a Democrat or Republican? Was he liberal, moderate or conservative? Was he for increasing or reducing government spending?

Reminds of that old TV western serial where near the end of the program the good guys who triumphed with the help of the stranger looked around the room to thank him. The Sheriff usually said, “Anybody see the masked stranger leave? And where is that Indian?

And off in the distance, came the message echoing back from the hills in the distance, “Good job Tonto, our job is done here. HI HO SILVER AWAY.”
