As bigoted as you think

Have you read about the flag controversy in Meade? Seems that J.R. and Robin Knight, who operate a bed and breakfast in the small town, are being widely criticized by residents for displaying a rainbow flag (a symbol of gay pride) in front of their business.
The couple says it was just a gift from their 12-year-old son, and they thought it was colorful and pretty.
But some in Meade say the flag sends the wrong message. "It’s hard enough to keep your kids on the straight and narrow without outside influences like that," complained one local waitress.
The Knights say they’re not gay activists, although they believe in tolerance. And they say they’re not backing down, especially not after someone recently cut down the flag. They plan to order several more rainbow flags and keep putting them up. Good for them.

oh no!! Seeing a rainbow flag will cause otherwise straight and narrow kids to fall into the depravity of homosexual relations. Heaven forbid we fly a pretty colorful flag – we might be causing immoral behavior in good bible fearing children! Cut it down – my eyes, my eyes they are burning!!!!!!

    Get a grip people.

I thought I was straight all these years, but one look at that flag and I want to wear buttless black leather chaps and fantasize over Ken Mehlman.

I can’t believe the lengths some go to fight about something. It’s a pretty flag that their son bought. Let them fly it.However, as I type this I wonder would everyone agree that it would be ok if it was a confederate flag or swastika? Just food for thought, debate anyone?

WW -I can kinda see the confederate flag because it represents a certain heritage of “good ol’ boys” and all, but the swastika is just about hate so as long as it’s based in hate and solely for the purpose of hatred of another then I don’t think that’s such a good idea.that’s my $.02

I am disgusted that a child of just 12 years old can walk into a Wizard of Oz shop and buy such a symbol of pornography. I’m going to start a grand jury investigation into Dorthy’s role in the peddling of smut to children. I won’t rest until this ring of porn is shut down no matter how much taxpayer money it takes.

Not so funny thing is the folks who have a problem with this flag and those who would go so far as to cut it down are likely the SAME folks who would probably lynch someone who desecrated an American flag.

I bet she loves women’s sports and wears flannel…..

I love women who wear flannel, they remind me of the good ole day back in the logging camp in the Pacific N/W. Miles from any town, no phones, no internet, why it was just me, frenchy, John, one handed Pete and of course our cook Kelly.

Oh the long, lonely, dark, cold nights we spend in that cabin! Miles from anyone else, bathing naked in a stream, racing each other back to the cabin. But oh God it got cold up there! Sometimes the only way to get warm was to sleep all under one blanket. It was Kelly who first suggested that we should sleep together, naked under one blanket to keep warm. At first the guys objected! But Kelly had a way of making us do what Kelly wanted…A sly smile, a lowering of the eyes.. that come hither look! None of the guys even me could resist Kelly, perhaps it was being so far from home, perhaps men were not meant to be without company if you know what I mean? But soon we got use to stripping down and jumping under the blanket with Kelly! So round it all the right places, one would think that Kelly would have had some fear? Why if you think about all those naked, lonely men under the blankets with you…. Doesn’t it make you shake?

But Kelly was special, braver then anyone else I had ever met! One time Kelly was walking through to the cut and was confronted by a Grizzly! Axe in hand, Kelly back that bear down!

Oh but the day I had to leave was a sad one in deed, but loggers don’t cry they are real men! That was a special good bye when Kelly walked me out to the closest road to be picked up. We said our good byes and embraced, the memory of that embrace kept me warm for nights to come. I miss the guys, but Kelly will always have a special place in my heart.

So if you ever come across a Marion Kelly, wearing flannel and singing a logging song. Say hello for me!

“Oh I’m a lumber jack and I’m OK I work all day and a sleep all night!”

AS to the flag, even today most might not even know that there is a special meaning to it if not told. Like wearing a bandana on ones head of a certain color, you would have to be in on the story to know it means any thing. Otherwise the difference between red or blue bandana is a personal choice. If not for the hoopla, most driving by would think it is just a colorful banner. Someone’s idea of a yard decoration, like a pink flamingo.

As was once said, “Sometimes a banana is nothing more then a banana” and as KFG pointed out about the crosses. It gains it meaning only if you believe in what it stands for. If there are some who do not have enough “personal worries” in their lives to think about, I will gladly share some of mine!

The feeling’s mutual, dear. I love nothing better than getting you lefties in full red-faced, sputtering, profanity-spewing mode. Generally all it takes is a few keywords like ‘Haliburton’ or ‘Swifties’, and you’re off to the races. And I don’t think we’ll need those true American heroes in this go-round. The Dems seem to have been taken over by the ‘Hezbollah’ wing (Dingell, Murtha, Lamont, Sheehan, etc.). It’s pretty easy to win elections when the opposition is aligning wiht America’s enemies.

I have no idea who John Montgomery is but I gather you don’t like him much. I posted a bit from the Hutch paper because it was one of the few things I found about this story that wasn’t a verbatim reprinting of the original. But I’ve learned through nefarious sources that Mr. Knight has had previous disagreements with the city government and the Meade newspaper. This incident is just the latest chapter.

I’m disappointed but not surprised that you (and a lot of other people) suspend their critical faculties when presented with a story that fits your preconceived notions about rural Kansas (but since you IS a rural Kansan, I guess, is it true that they’re ALL ignorant racist Republican bigots? What about you? Your friends and neighbors? I thought stereotyping was BAD, Mr. Garrison). You instinctively jump on the trash-Kansas bandwagon, no questions asked.

Thankfully this ’story’ seems to be dying a well-deserved death. There’s not much new on it….just Mr. Knight thanking all his new-found gay friends for the money pouring in, snarling about ‘hick towns’, and otherwise basking in fifteen minutes of fame. Good for him. But I doubt it’ll save his business, which is what I suspect it’s all about anwyay.

This illustrates the sad fact that people tend to hide behind an idea, religion, what they were told, etc, as a valid reason for hate. Why can we not be tolerant? I disagree with a lot here in Kansas, but what good is it to scream my ideas? To turn people off?Judgement. Nasty habit to judge the person who commits acts or has ideas different from your own. Everybody has worth and a good side. Hating what you do not know is hating yourself for being so closed minded. In Meade, I hope Hypo-Christians fail to break the couple down. And those who look toward whatever heaven or idea or what they were told for a way to accept differences, thank you.I have friends of all types and my life is richer because of it.Fighting about it just breeds more hate and those who tear things apart make Fred Phelps laugh more.Sad

Apophis — First of all, I would like to say that I am not and I never have been a vicious or hateful person. I don’t appreciate being lumped into that category.

You may have noticed that I was trying to come to Ksfarmgirl’s defense, since Ruby seems to think she needs counseling. My views on most issues differ from KFG’s, and more than likely, YOURS. That does not make me vicious, hateful, or a religious fundie!

I am not frothing at the mouth over this whole flag controversy in Meade. I think the whole thing is stupid. A flag will not make a person gay. I also think that it’s sad that the symbol of a rainbow is now so controversial.

Please don’t put words into my mouth and and don’t assume that I am some ultra-conservative religious fundamentalist who is out to crush all the liberals.

Indeed, I have read Jesus General. Btw, Sister Betty Bowers is one of my closest and dearest friends. She bills herself as “America’s Best Christian,” since she truly is a paragon of virtue, manners, and good taste. But as a women, she naturally knows her God-given place and how much the Lord loathes someone from the fairer sex that is a little too ‘uppity’ (I Corinthians 14:34, 35; I Timothy 2:12).

Sister Bowers runs an ex-gay ministry. Please visit B.A.S.H. (Baptists Are Saving Homosexuals): http://www.bettybowers.com/bashstart.html

Another Sis. Bowers’ ministry helps ladies overcome the seductive lure of “the Constitution” and “equal rights” with very sound, Bible-based values. This ministry is none other than B.I.T.C.H. (Briginging Integrity To Christian Homemakers). Please visit her site with regard to proper ladies attire at church: http://www.bettybowers.com/bitchmuzzles.html

…and I notice RUBY still didnt provide any source or proof that the boy was “taken away” from his parents.

    No apology ruby?

    hehehehehe

    Just an attack?

    heheheheh

Come back and play with the grownups when you are not SWIFTBOATING with unsubstantiated assaults on the truth.

I think chronic lying can be helped with counseling, but then in republican land, if you have a weakness, pin it on your opponent.

Heheheheh. Notice how they change the subject when it comes to “put up or shut up” time?

Still waiting on proof or an apology RUBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Someone makes a little comment and you really explode.”

Ya, funny, I do that anytime someone tells a BOLD FACED LIE and then refuses to admit it or apologize.

Especially some rightwing, self righteous, holier than thou republican LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Acknowledge your lie, provide proof you didnt lie, or hang your head in shame RUBY.

if that is frothing red faced spewing, what do you call lying?

    Doing something for jesus?

Oh, and this definition of a lie comes from the oh so holy and oh so republican nathan, so…

    RUBY, Jackstraw, sts, lmnop…

It must be true if nathan says it.

    “LIE: (dictionary.com)

-A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood.

-Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression”

I think that fits both Ruby and Jack Straw and their blatent lies about the people in Meade.

But please, continue to tell us how honest and righteous you all are.

    Hi all,

The “flag flap” just keeps getting uglier. For those of you who say it’s not about the intolerance some have for others, I hope you’ll reconsider your positions after reading the latest:

From the ever-humble yet tastefully decorated desk of Farah C. Church,

Yes, it is truly disturbing that some iniquitous individuals are allowed to parade themselves with impunity and forcing us true Christians(TM) to react in untoward ways. Why, it was only a generation ago when another group of “untraditionalists” provoked us true Christians to use attack-dogs, fire hoses, and a few feet of nylon rope to defend our God-given rights (Genesis 9:27). As you can attest, we Christians have mellowed over the years. Now, we can only scrape together a rather non-discript brick and a resulting broken window. However, sinners should not take our newly found “compassionate conservatism” as a sign of weakness or that we condone their filthy lifestyles.

To all you unsaved people out there (and you know who you are) AND to all saved people (those that have excepted Jesus as their P,L&S), here are a few common-sense, Christ-centered tips in helping your child not to adopt the very disgusting hobby of being an homosexual. I sincerely hope you take this Godly advise to heart and help prevent future “reactions” by Christians that only trying to help in the same adage (you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette).

I left Kansas 10 years ago, but still remember it fondly. What I remember the most is the goodness of (most of) its people. The bulk of the responses on this blog tell me that this hasn’t changed. Kansans may not be the most vocal force in gay rights, but they are a calm, steady, progressive wave of what it means to live and let live.

I miss y’all. Keep up the good work and God Bless.
