Sebelius, Morrison are in the money

It’s not surprising that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has raised a lot more money than the top three GOP gubernatorial candidates, though the disparity is huge — she had almost $2.8 million available from Jan. 1 to July 20, compared with a combined total of $841,783 for Jim Barnett, Robin Jennison and Ken Canfield. That gap likely will close significantly after the Aug. 1 primary, as many GOP donors likely are waiting to see who will win. Still, the GOP should be worried about the fundraising edge, as it reflects Sebelius’ front-runner status and a lack of confidence that any of the GOP candidates can beat her.
Meanwhile, Democratic attorney general candidate Paul Morrison’s amazing fundraising success — he had nearly $1 million on hand from Jan. 1 to July 20, compared with $614,861 for Republican incumbent Phill Kline — reflects both a belief that the longtime Johnston County district attorney would make a good attorney general and the strong dislike that many donors have of Kline.

You can tell by the number of comments on this that the Rolling Stones are much more popular than politics.

I already donated to my politician of choice and it looks like a lot of other people have as well.

Looks like people are already voting with their wallets.

It is not hard to understand the funds that Sebelius and Morrison have. If you take a look at their campaign reports you will see that most of the money is not from Kansas.

What about the KC Star’s blog article about Bus boys and poets fund raiser tonight in support of Dr. Tiller’s ProKanDo PAC? http://kcbuzzblog.typepad.com/kcbuzzblog/2006/07/bus_boys_and_po.html

How convenient it is to hold this in DC the day after the political money reporting period ended in Kansas. This money doesn’t need to be reported now until October.

Who might be behind this DC fundraising event for Dr. Tiller’s ProKanDo PAC?http://www.saljournal.com/blogs/?p=1064

KSMeadowlark,Please stop you blog pimping here, okay? No one that I know of is interested in your crap – except maybe Rudy. And, I will bet, she could provide you with her email address. This would save all of us a bunch of aggravation. Please, your Salina-priestess, we implore you, take your shit, elsewhere.

The Salina Journal appreciates free speech — as does the Wichita Eagle. Why are you so afraid of knowing political money facts not reported by the Kansas press, especially in Eastern Kansas? If the press were less biased, and reported all the news, I certainaly have better things I’d prefer to do. Bias in the press is my main motivation.

I welcome you to challenge my facts and logic, but just what does name calling accomplish?

“I welcome you to challenge my facts and logic, but just what does name calling accomplish?”

You Repukes know that name calling accomplishes a great deal. Without such, your party would not have a president.

To challenge your “facts and logic” would require work on my part, that you have never done!

I am not afraid of anything you or the Salina Journal can produce. You are quite laughable, and surely you know that.

…and who was it that defeated the proposal to close the late campaign finance reporting loophole?

Here is a little clue. It was members of the party that control BOTH the kansas house and senate.

Come on. You know the one.

Yep. That’s right. Give that man a cigar. The REPUBLICAN controlled legislature defeated the campaign finance reform bill that would have ended the black hole of reporting near elections.

What is the media to report if the REPUBLICAN legislature refuses to make candidates report their late contributions?

“Waaaa mom, waaaaa, they are raising more money than we are. Wawaaaaaaaaa”.

    Who knew meadowlarks could cry?

Wassa matter, no traffic at the Salina Blog? heheh. Zero traffic at the Hays Daily blog too. Cant wait for schwaller and lowrey to start pimping here too!!!!!!!!

I guess we really are NUMBER 2!!!!

That same REPUBLICAN controlled Kansas House and Kansas Senate also killed the sunshine law that would have required elected officials to keep recordings of executive sessions in case the “executive” nature of those closed meetings was ever questioned.

    Let’s see…

The repukes killed campaign finance reform, refused to make local governments accountable for their secret meetings, and did not close the loophole for late contribution reporting.

    heheh.

And they STILL cant win the governor’s chair?

    heheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheh

Actually KSFG if you checked your facts you would see that it was the Governor who vetoed the legislation that closed the last minute money loophole. The Republicans supported it.

She did not like the idea that people would have to provide proof if identification when they vote. So she vetoed it.

The purpose of closing the PAC for the Gov. was because she is about to name the individual in control of it as a judge. His name is Mark Braun. He cannot be appointed judge if he is involved with political organizations. So they closed this one and had someone else open up a new one for her.

Don’t be afraid of the facts.

Too funny sts. And in her veto statement she said she supported that provision and voluntarily agreed to report during the blackout period.

And her opponents? Any such pledge?

    Thought not.

Do you know WHY that bill was vetoed?

    http://www.tilrc.org/docs/0506vetoed.htm

…and I guess it wasnt as important to the kansas repubs to override THAT veto like they did the concealed carry veto.

Funny how that “selective” veto power works. And please dont trot out the tired canard that it was the DEMS who prevented the veto overide. Pul-EESE

Perhaps YOU should not be afraid of the facts…

So kathleen did what every democrat is doing across the country, opposing picture ID, and ksfarmgrrl, actually believes what she reads in a veto message? Come on, this one is not that hard to figure out.

“what every democrat is doing across the country, opposing picture ID”

Wanna provide some proof? Or just blowing?

And if illegals have illegal documents, you dont think they will have illegal picture id?

I dont think you want illegals to stop voting as much as you want the poor and elderly to stop voting.

    Low turnout = republican victories

    heheheh

But please, we are amused and we do encourage you to try again.

hehehe still laughing at “every democrat across the country”.

Now which is it ’cause you republicans and conservatives and evangelicals cant have it both ways.

Either the dems do not agree and have no unified positions, or they march in lockstep “like every democrat across the country”.

    Which is it?

  17. ksfarmgrrl
    Posted July 26, 2006 at 12:59 pm | Permalink

…and once again, I see the issues of illegals voting, REAL campaign finance reform, open meeting laws, and voter registration STILL dont matter to republicans as much as having a gun in every pot. You could override that veto but none other?

heheh. Yeah. We see your priorities. If that is what voters want, you win in November. But if not… heheheheh

KSFG – if you look at the votes for conceal carry it was passed with enough votes to be veto proof. The Campaign Reform bill did not pass with enough votes to be veto proof. And whether you like it or not most legislation passes with democrat and republican votes. I know how the facts bother you but they are there. Hee, hee, hee!!

    From the CJ online.

    Where’s the money?

In other election news, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday reported raising $27,360 since the July 20 closing of the last campaign finance reporting period. Sebelius voluntarily reported her fundraising numbers to fulfill a pledge after she vetoed a bill this year that would have made all candidates do the same in the days leading up to the election.

The report showed a range of donors — from the Civil Service Employee’s political action committee donating $2,000 to a Wichita man offering $10.

sts, I dont know how you think your post refutes any facts or provides any facts.

Yes, the campaign finance reform passed with fewer votes than concealed carry. Duh.

The FACT remains that you STILL cant muster as many republicans to care as much about clean elections as they do about having guns in every pot.

“And whether you like it or not most legislation passes with democrat and republican votes.”

Duh. Again. Refutes nothing, it just states the obvious. When you are in control, you can pass what YOUR PARTY wants.

When you are the party not in control? heheheheheheh. The party IN control wants to blame you for things THEY cant get done.
