There still may be a winning case for trying to improve Century II’s bottom line by privatizing its management — especially if its operation eventually could be coordinated with that of Sedgwick County’s new arena. But the idea, despite many months of discussion, has not led to broad support for privatization among City Council members and Century II stakeholders. So it seemed premature at best for City Manager George Kolb to have included the privatization in the 2007 budget.

Well, what did you expect? In a City Manager form of government, the staff follows the dictates of elected council members. In Wichita city government, the elected council members follow the dictates of staff.
City Manager Kolb has the power to do almost anything he wants under Wichita’s strictly conservative, non-political structure of city government. But the other side of the equation is how much will the people put up with before they begin to squawk … loud.
George Kolb is just trying to move things forward.
By the way, I saw him the other day shopping at Wal-Mart.
Joe:”…Kolb is just trying to move things forward…”Not nearly fast enough. How much longer do we have to wait for him to “get organized”?
MrC – about as long as we will have to wait to see some private development in WaterWalk.
If Churches would not have screwed up the city as much Kolb would be moving along faster. Don’t blame Kolb for the mess blame Chris Churches.
