The National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series started Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. It will run for the next two weeks. The middle weekend, next weekend, August 4th, 5th and 6th, will be the annual “baseball round the clock” where baseball is played continuously all day, all night for 56 hours.

Free tickets are available for some games beginning today:

    Sunday, 7/30/06 @ Old Chicago,

    Monday, 7/31/06 @ Presto 66 stations,

    Tuesday, 8/01/06 @ Taco Bells

    Wednesday, 8/02/06 @ Quik Trip

Thursday, 9/03/06 @ Papa Johns and Warren Theaters.

I think the free tickets apply to the games beginning at 5 PM on each of those days but ask at the ticket counter.

So, here’s a chance to enjoy some great baseball on warm summer evenings/nights here in Wichita.

You could not find better baseball anywhere. We spent the last two evenings there and had a great time.

Those kids are having fun and showing us what baseball is all about. We will be back there this afternoon and will try to make some games during the week.

Eveyone should go at least one day. You can see several games for the price of one and with free tickets most days what a deal. You can even upgrade the free ticket to a better seat.

Wichita should be proud to host this tournament!

Sotheysaid: I agree with your message about the NBC world series tournament. Except for the heat today, its great. And being semi-professionals, basically college level players, they are enthusiastic and energetic baseball players.

However, I do find it strange that when I drove by Lawrence-Dumont Stadium a few minutes ago, I couldn’t tell that a “world series of semi-pro baseball” was being played there. Why no banners or flags? Why no moving messages on the ICE SPORTS sign directly across the street since both facilities are owned by the City of Wichita.

Why is the city manager not out on Maple Street creating enthusiasm and encouraging passers-by to attend the games? Perhaps serve buffet type meals at ICE SPORTS, free for the participants.

Every major city in the world, Moscow, Tokyo, Shanghai, Mexico City, would like to have the NBC but Wichita just barely recognizes it.

THE STEAM CLEANING of the streets of skid row a few weeks ago — when homeless people were literally swept and hosed out of their makeshift encampments in downtown Los Angeles by employees of the local “business improvement district” — was a troubling moment in the battle over the neighborhood’s future. But it was hardly a unique one.

In fact, the trend toward gentrification has created similar moments in cities all around the world for many years, pitting the poor and the homeless against real estate developers, the police and upscale residents returning to “reclaim” the inner city. As long as there have been low-income neighborhoods, there have been those who want to remove them — and those who have, as a result, been left with no place to go.

Maybe when the homeless have no place to go, we’ll come up with a workable solution to deal with them. Right now all the shelters, food banks, and soup kitchens just enable that population to flourish. No wonder no one wants to raise their family in midtown, with the huge transient population we have there now, I wouldn’t either. You can call me heartless, but when you do for people what they need to do for themselves, you just add to the problem.Do something about the drug epidemic and the mentally ill that have fallen though the cracks, then you’ll be doing something about the homeless problem. You have to focus on the underlying issues, not just try to alleviate the symptoms of the real problem.

The kook Susan Wagle in on fellow kook Joe Wrights radio show. They are discussing stem cell research and how it is immoral.

Research that could possibly heal spinal cord injuries and cure any number of diseases is immoral?

As primaries approach, it is worth reminding potential voters that it is the Republican party…..or at least an extreme wing of it that opposes and has blocked this important research. Any candidate for office should make their stance on this clear. Candidates who oppose this research should not be elected.

BUSH WANTS TO LOCK YOU UP WITHOUT TRIAL

WASHINGTON – U.S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill.

Legal experts said Friday that the bill’s language is dangerously broad and could authorize the military to detain indefinitely U.S. citizens who had only tenuous ties to terror networks like al Qaeda.

Scott L. Silliman, a retired Air Force Judge Advocate, said the broad definition of enemy combatants is alarming because a U.S. citizen loosely suspected of terror ties would lose access to a civilian court — and all the rights that come with it. Administration officials have said they want to establish a secret court to try enemy combatants that factor in realities of the battlefield and would protect classified information.

The administration’s proposal, as considered at one point during discussions, would toss out several legal rights common in civilian and military courts, including barring hearsay evidence, guaranteeing “speedy trials” and granting a defendant access to evidence. The proposal also would allow defendants to be barred from their own trial and likely allow the submission of coerced testimony.

Officials: There ‘aren’t enough troops’ to fix problems in IraqMilitary says 3,700 more troops are headed to Baghdad

    By Tom Lasseter

    McClatchy Newspapers

BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Bush administration’s decision to move thousands of U.S. soldiers into Baghdad to quell sectarian warfare before it explodes into outright civil war underscores a problem that’s hindered the U.S. effort to rebuild Iraq from the beginning: There aren’t enough troops to do the job.

    . . . .

Almost no high-ranking, active-duty U.S. officers are willing to discuss their concerns about troop levels publicly, for fear of being reprimanded or having their careers cut short. There’s an unwritten understanding, they said, that the Bush administration doesn’t want to hear about the need for more troops.

The U.S. defense official in Iraq said officers were discouraged from making such requests, and officers in Washington, D.C., and at the military’s Central Command confirmed that.

“They’re not allowed to ask for more troops,” the U.S. defense official in Iraq said. “If you say something you’re gone, you’re relieved, you’re not in the Army anymore.”

Mary Caruso,Typical answer to the homeless problem here in River City. Just remove the love, clothing and food, and the vermin will move somewhere else!

    Pathetic.. and yes, heartless..

There is no easy cure.. yes we do have to facilitate the bad behavior of some in order to help those who are really looking to become self sufficient. But who are we to judge who is worthy to eat and survive, and who is not?

I dream of the ability to cure the addictions, restore the self esteem to provide a means for them to become self sufficient in their own living quarters. Unfortunately, I somehow doubt that the vision of the City will be much more than another short term fix. I pray that it will be more than that!

Anyone here ever been to say, the corner of 4th and San Pedro in Los Angeles? Human feces and urine is overwhelming. If regular street cleaning did not take place, the spread of disease would be epidemic..then people would scream that the city allows this to happen.

Typical crap–scream when something is done, and scream when something is not done.

Rumors are circulating that the Wichita Wranglers move out of Wichita is already a done deal. This should be investigated. If it is true, I personally withdraw any and all previous support I have posted for the Wranglers and efforts to keep them here. They should play to a COMPLETELY empty stadium right up to the time they move to their new one in Arkansas.

And I say, “Hey, Lama! “How about a little something, you know, for the effort?” And he says, “There won’t be any money… “…but when you die, on your deathbed… “…you will receive total consciousness.” So I’ve got that going for me… which is nice.

More and more men are dropping out:

Men Not Working, and Not Wanting Just Any Job, by Louis Uchitelle And David Leonhardt, NY Times: Alan Beggerow has stopped looking for work. Laid off as a steelworker at 48, he taught math for a while at a community college. But when that ended, he could not find a job that, in his view, was neither demeaning nor underpaid.

So instead of heading to work, Mr. Beggerow, now 53, fills his days with diversions… He often stays up late and sleeps until 11 a.m. “I have come to realize that my free time is worth a lot to me,” he said. To make ends meet, he has tapped the equity in his home…, and he is drawing down the family’s savings, at the rate of $7,500 a year. … His wife’s income helps them scrape by. “If things really get tight,” Mr. Beggerow said, “I might have to take a low-wage job, but I don’t want to do that.”

Isn’t it interesting how the MSM pukes are reporting every weather-related story in an effort to justify their agenda (aka Al Gore and other mindless liberals), but conveniently don’t report facts that would challenge their agenda.

Seven fewer hurricanes to-date this year vs. last year. Was that reported? Nope!

What else is NOT being reported by MSM pukes that would challenge their agenda? No wonder the Pew Research numbers reflect a drop in the MSM as a source of news. The MSM can’t be trusted to be objective.
