New page for Mayans, council?

He’s alienated all six of his colleagues on the Wichita City Council with off-agenda, grandstanding efforts to promote WSU football and other ill-considered ideas, as well as his divisive, bad-mouthing tendencies. But Mayor Carlos Mayans, facing a general revolt, backed off on WSU football Tuesday — even going along with a resolution saying that the council would never again get involved in trying to push WSU football.
Council member Paul Gray called it a good step toward reconciliation. “It appears that he wants to get along and get back to the business of the people,” Gray told The Eagle editorial board Wednesday. “Everyone wants to put this behind us and move forward.”
It’s too soon to tell whether the truce will last. But with the mayoral election coming up next spring, Mayans needs to show he can pull the council together and move the team down the field.

Poor little Paul Gray (who wants to be mayor) feels that things are now improving because he cried to the media and now feels he is being heard. Did it ever dawn on you Paul to have a “cut to the chase” discussion with the mayor? Die it even dawn on you that with your vote and the five others you could have your actions speak louder than your words?

The actions by the entire city council show a lot of immaturity. There is not one of them willing to just pick up the ball and run with it. A leader does not wait for someone else to get the job done. A leader believes in: “lead, follow or get out of the way”. There was not one member of the council that showed he or she could or would do that. Instead they whined to the press and now feel good about themselves.

Grow up and act like professionals! If you can’t do the job because you are only part time and have to rely on staff (as Fearey says she does) then leave office and let someone else do it.

Isn’t Gray one of those who stands to gain personally from construction contracts?

Why let conflict of interest stand in the way? None of them have let that be an issue in the past. LOL

I realize this is an editorial, but don’t you still have to have some factual basis? What divisive and “bad-mouthing tendencies” are we talking about? All I have heard is that he put forward some ideas that other people don’t think are good ideas.

Is the news really that slow that you have to go on this kick? Isn’t there a war in Lebanon or an election in Mexico you could talk about?

Well the editorial board really likes to beat on local topics… I think its needed to a point but i think its gone a bit too far on this whole Mayans issue.

I think the entire council as well as the mayor is to blame for the “fuden n fighten”

I would like to see what Carlos could do with an entire new council but since that wont happen, i think our local politics has fallen into the same pit of partisan politics. But in this case, its Mayans vs the entire council, rather than Demo’s vs Repub’s…
