Libertarians just want to have fun

I’ve admired the consistency of the Libertarian Party — when it says it favors limited government, it really means it. And when it comes to fundraisers, the Kansas Libertarian Party doesn’t hold stuffy, black-tie gatherings. Perhaps you read this weekend about the party’s attempt to hold a fundraiser at Lake Edun (in photo), a nudist camp in Shawnee County. County deputies blocked people from entering, enforcing a court order banning “commercial or recreational activities” at the camp — thus proving the Libertarians’ point about there being too much government.

The sheriff’s blockade of the get-together is really sad. It would have been nice to find out how big the Libertarians’ weenies and cajones really are.

I think Libertarians are only for limited weenies and cajones.I’m not sure about buns and boobies. Probably for unlimited boobies, I’m guessing.

The Libertarian Party could be a very strong 3rd party if it weren’t the stigma attached to them. I guess that comes with politics, because all Political Parties have some sort of stigma.

I agree and adopt most of the Libertarian platform and I have been a registar Libertarian for some time.

But the party has very poor leadership, both Nationally and State wise. They tend to stay in the fringe issues and therefor people only know Libertarians are the people who want to legalize all drugs and walk around naked.

They need to focus on their core value, which is freedom and govenment fiscal responsiblity. Something the other party doesn’t have.

If they keep focusing on legalizing drugs, eliminating government offices, and public nudity, they will always remain a fringe party.

Isn’t there a pretty wide spectrum of libertarians? I was thinking there were liberal libertarians – those described in this thread and also conservative libertarians. The latter focusing on limiting government intrusiveness – like doing away with public health initiatives, the Dept. of Education, and the like.

I don’t think there is a “unitarian” Libertarian group.

This is not a topic about the Democratic Party.

    Dont confuse libertarians with anarchists.

The line for the anarchists forms to the left in western kansas.

    DD,

Some people are blessed with big ones are some are not so blessed. As long as there is no government program to ‘take from the blessed and give to the not blessed’. . .

Seriously though, it is very frustrating being a Libertarian. The 2004 national convention was televised on CSPAN. The party leadership put up a video on the legalization of drugs during the voting. I’m sure that helped drive some disaffected voters away from our party.

We need to learn to concentrate on what the voters care about.

Jed,I would think Unitarian Libertarians would be in the more Liberal group. But, don’t know that for sure.

Jed.I should have said unitary Libertarians in my original posting. Unitary – meaning “one” – I used the wrong word, I wasn’t meaning to refer to a religious group.

    My error. I agologize.

From the libertarians that I have dealt with, most seem to be in line with the GOP.

I feel as though the libertarian party is just a fancy name for new age republicans. Look at the so called media libertarians i.e. Boortz and O’reilly. They spout nothing but conservative mumbo jumbo!!

My take is that Libertarians are simply less nosy but greedier Repubblicans.

Why talk about something you don’t know about?

Go to the Kansas Libertarian Web site that was updated since the new Chair Rob Hodgkinson took the reigns:

    http://www.LPKS.org

Then click on the libertarian 101 link to the left – it is a good place for you to learn what the LP is really all about instead of the rhetoric being posted here.

The KSLP was the leader in helping try to get a eminent domain constitutional amendment to the people of Kansas in the 2006 legislative session. (We missed in the house by three votes)

We are not your Daddy’s Libertarian Party!

There is also this quiz from the Advocates for Self-Government:

The quiz separates philosophy on more than the simplistic left/right basis commonly used.
