With events in the Middle East increasingly looking like a multistate war, the nuclear threats from North Korea and Iran unabated, and a tough midterm congressional election to worry about, will President Bush forgo his usual August-long vacation? “White House officials have decided too much is at stake this year for Bush to spend so much time on vacation,” reported the Associated Press. “He’ll spend some time at the ranch, but it will be less than previous summers and interrupted by more time on the road.” Last year’s ranch respite was rudely ended by Hurricane Katrina, or course, after being protested nonstop by Cindy Sheehan.

It must be hard to cancel or cut short one’s vacation for a nuclear war…
anyone else feel like Bush is trying to coast through his presidency?
He looks/acts how i look/act when coasting through my classes to complete my degree… i really dont care about learning anything, i just go to get that dumb piece of paper…
Sounds close…
Is anyone sure that he can do this right? If so, it’s a first!! The Shrub is the resident Shrubster!
Did anyone see Bush on the news with the German Chancellor? After listening to his comments about the “pig” I wish he would just stay on the ranch. We could find a more articulate and reasoned thinker residing in a Saturday nite drunk tank.
Less time at the ranch also includes spending a lot of aviation fuel and screwing up airports for other aviators while he stumps for his GOP buddies – those who want to be seen with him.
The last I heard, George and Laura were looking for a new place in Dallas. Could be the ranch is losing its appeal (many in and around Crawford don’t like him), and its easier to make fewer and shorter visits, blaming it on the global situations.
The ranch has been a stage prop from day one. They bought it after the man was handed the White House.
He doesn’t know sheep dip from shinola about ranching.
And notice you never see him on horseback? Rumor has it the big sissy is scared of them.
All hat and no cattle. That’s Bush in five words.
Check this out–
“White House officials have decided too much is at stake this year for Bush to spend so much time on vacation,” reported the Associated Press.
Well, I’m glad the decider has decided to let the real deciders make his decisions for him.
“With Republicans nervous about keeping control of Congress and worries about the future of Iraq, Iran and North Korea, White House officials have decided too much is at stake this year for Bush to spend so much time on vacation.”
Well, this as I suspected. That is, Bush supporters have always cited the very carefully displayed pictures of Bush in the Crawford ranchhouse basement (no windows even! man that guy works hard when he’s on vacation!) as well as its progidious IT infrastructure as evidence that his freakishly long vacations were actually working vacations. They’d argue that the president didn’t need to stay in DC in order to stay plugged in, that he could function just as effectively from Crawford as from the WH.
Well, I believe the White House has now admitted that that wasn’t true. Gee, whoda thunk it?!?
What White House officials mean, of course, is that what’s at stake *in this decision* is not Iraq, not Iran, not North Korea, and not Congress.
It’s the president’s own approval ratings that are at stake, nothing more.
flike, that’s it exactly. Too much noise for a long time about his vacation time. Good excuses to change that and make him look better.
Maybe he will go hunting with Cheney …
Hehe, good catch, Flike.
Hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it.
That’s what Cuckoo Bananas said in “Farenheit 9-11″ too. “I can get work done right here. Condi’s coming over and we’re going talk about some initiatives.”
Now it seems that he can’t.
His lying is perfectly consistent. What is unusual in this case is that somebody told the truth which contradicted that lie.
Does this mean the WH has now flip-flopped? :0
In other words, he’ll be too busy campaigning, so it’ll be a “working vacation”. Aren’t they all!
What this proves is that GW is equally ineffective and incompetent no matter where he is.
Europe, for example . . .
Did you read about the exchange between Putin and the Putz? The Putz was holding Iraq up as a democracy with freedom of speech and freedom of religion, Putin told him Russia didn’t want an Iraq democracy!
