Kenneth Lay’s great escape

The sudden death of Kenneth Lay, the disgraced former head of Enron, denies a fitting closure to his many victims. The man convicted of presiding over one of this nation’s most costly corporate scandals — and whose greedy schemes left thousands of people without retirement funds — has escaped punishment for his crimes and will not spend the rest of his life behind bars, as appeared likely in his upcoming sentencing.
It’s still unclear whether the government will be able to seize assets and collect fines from Lay’s remaining estate. If not, where’s the justice for Lay’s victims?

Tin-foil-hatter that I am, the word “suicided” keeps whispering in my mind. Just how much did Kenny Boy know?

Yes, I know that’s crazy, and I don’t consciously believe it, so no need to jump on me. I know I have a very suspicious mind, to the point of being, um, ridiculous. That’s what comes from my what-if-la-la-land career.

It is sad that reparations to those he injured may not come to fruition. I’m just curious if W will attend the funeral…

Remember Vince Foster? Lotsa tin hats on the other side of the fence still think the Clintons had him bumped off. So we COULD play their game and argue that Lay was such a political liablility that……….

Any bets they cremate Lay or bury him in secret? NOT talking conspiracies here. But I am sure many would like to visit his final resting place and seek………relief!

X…fascinating thought…almost sounds like it could be made into a movie!

Not only the families, but think of the employees suffered at his hands. Loss of vested pensions, savings accounts, jobs, etc. Be a loyal employee for years..and get stiffed. And..now they don’t even get the satisfaction of seeing him behind bars. Maybe they can “fertilize” his grave?

This just in from NBC news…since Lay died before formal sentencing, there will be no attempt to collect the fines. Means his family will be able to keep his $10 million in salary/bonus as well as the things bought with the $30 million credit line from Enron. Also, according to NBC news, the civil lawsuits cannot proceed against his estate since he died before formal sentencing. How incredibly convenient…

LRB,I don’t think that Sum1 and Ben were correlating kenlay w/ a terrorist. I think that they were stating that both had ruined lives and allowed instability to surround those around them. We the public have been provided ‘proof’ that al-zarkawi had died – there were pictures released and DNA confirmation. All we have with kenlay is verbal confirmation that he had a massive heart attack.I’m sure that we as a public are so distrusting on this verbal confirmation because we see conspiracy lurking around every corner. We are bloodthirsty lot and want proof. We don’t just want him to burn in hell for the financial distruction he has wrought but we want the pictures of the devil himself jamming a pitchfork in his backside.Only then will we be satisfied that a small justice is done.
