When I heard this story, Mussolini came to mind; string the bitch up by her feet and skin her alive while an entire crowd spits on her carcass. That's real justice. That's what the bitch deserves. Same goes for the lying snake in the grass husband of hers.

They're both equally to blame for the abuse, they should both be treated the same. Our system is so inconsistant when it comes to dealing with criminals and justice, and if you have enough money, you can pretty much stay out of jail.

I am appalled that the mother was let out on bail at half the rate of the father. While he had to of been aware ( or a total idiot) she was locking them up, abusing, and starving them. Yet she gets half the bail? Am I confused? Is there equity in our justice system for men and women, or are there separate rules? It should at least be equal, and if either is a flight risk, there should be no bail. Any type of child abuse is unconscionable, but this is a stark reminder of the concetration camps of Nazi Germany, and our justice system is allowing the primary perpterator go free on less bail that the accomplice.

I was reading the paper today I found something I found troubling. The father was finally arrested and has a 100,000 dollar bond yet the stepmother who get 1st glance seems to be the primary abuser got of jail with a 50,000 dollar bond. What the hell is up that, why does it always seem that women get treated way more lenient in the criminal justice system despite the fact that they can commit horrible crimes.

I still think the best solution would be to throw the stepmother in a Men's prison In general population not solitary.

I think that people like this should be sterilized so they can't bring anymore children into the world, hopefully the "mom" will be in prison until she is no longer able to reproduce. There was (and still may be)a program in California that offers money to women who have been convicted of drug crimes to be sterilized. It is funded by a private organization, and was challenged by the ACLU (I'm not sure what the outcome was). I think it's a great idea, it gives the person a chance to do something resposible, often for the first time in their lives, and saves the taxpayers money. If they ever did that here, I'd be the first to donate to the cause. Some people have no business being a parent.

I am appalled that the stepmother was released on bond. What kind of message does that send to other potential child abusers? She should sit in jail until her trial.

Eugenics was practiced by the Government at the turn of the century but has been mostly discredited. In a free society you really cant have the government telling people who they can be with. Also such programs became hijacked by racists here and Nazis as a way to try to control "inferior races" and the disabled.

Lala! The Federal Government did initiate a program in the 80's to install norplants in welfare, drug addicts, and ghetto moms that were having a lot of children. Plus there has been other sterilization practices long before that for both men and women.

But of course, sterilization is frowned upon today. But the government thought that Norplants would be ok since they are not considered permenant. Well! The government got sued so bad by a slick trial lawyer for millions of dollars. The government had to stop the program. Was considered against human rights.

Prisons don't seem to work too well at reducing our crime rates. We need to come up with a better, harsher system of punishment.

Though one would have to study what forms of punishment have a useful effect. And can't be too excessive or we may go down the way of the Nazis... so effects on society should be considered. But still, all manner of strange crimes happen in the US that don't happen elsewhere(to the same degree), and that means that something needs to be done here.

I feel badly for those poor girls. I hope their lives are back on the upswing after what they've had to suffer. Just un-f-ing-believable. The woman that did this is pure, unadulterated evil. She should be annihilated directly after her Constitutionally-mandated speedy and fair trial. I suspect that the father was in extreme denial, however, that does not lessen his culpability. He is every bit responsible, and for his outrageous neglect, he should be tried fairly and given a prison sentance in proportion to his crime. Further, I agree with everything poster J R said. Some people just should not breed under any circumstance. Frankly, it is up to society to encourage this view. I think that it is most unfortunate and to our detriment that the Religious Right and both major political parties would never support subsidized abortion and long term/permanent birth control on demand for crackwhores, white trash, abusers, chickenheads, complete and utter asswipes, psychopaths, kiddie diddlers, mean, angry doodieheads, tweekers, and urbanized ghetto rejects and all others who just aren't any societies' poster image of good parenting material. Oh well, folks. Guess we'll just keep filling up the prisons just like we've always done, because that's working so well for our happy, healthy, super-mega-awesome FIRST-WORLD America and abused children everywhere.

I am appalled that the local authorities would not immediately force the father back from where he is and incarcerate both the father and stepmother immediately. The notion that the father may not have been aware of the situation was suggested by the authorities by waiting for him to return for questioning. He HAD to be aware of the grave health of his children and that they were only being fed when he was in Wichita.

What the article suggests is that they were attempting to murder those to two children. They did not know how to accomplish it outright, so it was being taken a step at a time through neglectful starvation.

Our society has become complacent on crimes toward humanity. My heart is very saddened for those children. They will be deeply scarred for life as a result of these two adults (I will not call them “parents”). They do not deserve to have children and should not be allowed to walk freely in our society

If the Eagle article is acurate, how could the father not have known? I don't buy that for an instant. Normal kids don't look like death camp internees.

Horse whipping comes to mind.

The above link is for the Eagle's story on this situation. From what was reported the dad was out of town during the week and came home on weekends. I'm getting the impression that he was kinda clueless about his kids.

There is a sickness out there and the "responsible" couple parenting those girls had it. It's called "we shouldn't be allowed to have children" syndrome. I wrote a note to Eagle opinion line that didn't get put up that read, The parents should be locked up with no food for however long the girls were. There is NO excuse for their actions. The father didn't know? Bull. He either knew or was too caught up in himself to notice. And either way, he deserves the limit. Damn, that just went too far.

I'll be interested to find out more about this case. How long did this go on? How long has this couple been married? How on EARTH could the father "not know"? Is he away that much? Is he unobservant to the point of stupidity?

I can't believe the dad didn't notice what his girls were going through. Even if he came home on the weekends he would have noticed something was wrong. That kind of weight loss doesn't just happen in one week of not eating. I say charge him with the same thing his wife gets charged with. AND when they get to jail, take away thier food priviledges for a couple of weeks and see how they like it.

How the 'responsible' adults can treat children like this is incomprehensible. I truely don't understand the thought process. It's not like taking dessert away for misbehavior. It is out and out inhumane treatment.I don't think the dad even realized what was going on.I pray the girls can get therapy and move beyond this.

I've always said I'm against the death penalty. Stories like this test my resolve. For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would treat a child like that. I pray that there's a special place in Hell for these animals.
