I called in sick of anti-school T-shirts

Maybe I’m officially a fuddy-duddy. But I don’t like back-to-school T-shirts that have anti-school messages. I saw several T-shirts for middle school and younger kids advertised in Sunday’s Eagle. One said, “I called in sick of school today.” Another said, “I can’t wait ’till school is over — so I’m leaving right now.” Do parents actually buy their kids these shirts (and then expect them to value education)? Somehow, I doubt that kids in India or China wear shirts like that.

“Maybe you would like living in India or China better?”

Again RA shows he has absolutly no intelligence whatsoever.

If RA has kids, could that be considered assault on the gene pool?

What shows no intelligence is somebody actually caring about a kid wearing a t-shirt with a quasi-humorous slogan on it.

Guess what, Phillip? Even straight A students may not enjoy getting up and going to school. I know it may come as a shock.

I remember when I was in grade school (shows my age) when The Simpsons just came out and was a hit. Every kid bought these Simpson tee-shirts to wear to school.

It’s just a fad, but I remember school officals wanted to ban them. I think they got some of them banned. The ones with “damn” or “butt” on them or something like that.

It’s just a fad! These kids wearning anti-school shirts will be considered old and tired by the end of the year. No worries. ;)

it’s freedom of expression. As long as there is no profanity or suggestive language what’s the problem? If I have a problem with what the shirt says (guess what) I don’t buy it! If my 12 year old wants to buy it with his own money – that is his choice (as long as it doesn’t have profanity etc.)Joe – Don’t have a cow, man.

Who’s making these T-shirts, and what’s their ideology?

    Philip is right.

The kids in China wear uniforms like every other successful public (and private) school system in just about any country you can think of.

As long as we let kids wear whatever crap they want to in public school, we’re encouraging an attitude that says “popular” is more important than smart or educated.

But, hey, that’s why we’ve got Bush.

Blaming the clothes is easier than telling the parents that they suck at their jobs.

Kids wear those kind of clothes because parents suck at their job.

Stroot must be either one of those parents who suck at their job, or one of the kids who wear those kind of clothes.

Loosen up a bit you guys!

I woulda wore a shirt like that.

Think of it this way. For a kid, school is the “establishment” “the boss” the “man” if you will. I call a little early on rebellion and harmless jabs at “authority” a good thing!

A lot of schools are cracking down on “message” t-shirts. Although there is nothing morally wrong with a shirt that bashes school, I would think that some administrators would not want kids walking around with an anti-school message on his chest. Any parent who buys a shirt like that for their child is asking for a phone call from an administrator asking them to bring some more appropriate attire to school.

I hate T shirts that say anything, unless it’s really clever. I love the one that came out after Bush won(?) the last election. It displayed the painting “The Scream” with the caption “Four more years!!”

The one that always got to me was a $6.99 K-mart-type white t-shirt with the Gucci logo, that was being sold for $50! I realize they think their name is worth something, but $43.01 for just the name? C’mon! Are we THAT gullible?

Back to the issue at hand, I’m waiting with bated breath for the next kid’s t-shirt that reads “My Principal is a Censor!” If the school takes that bait, they’ll be proving the truth of it; if they don’t, they’ll have no logical grounds to complain about any of the others!
