The GOP gubernatorial forum Saturday in Wichita sounded like a lovefest. “Our focus is Kathleen Sebelius, not my opponents at this table,” said state Sen. Jim Barnett of Emporia.
“We’re all talking a little bit different about the vision we have for Kansas, but we all think that anybody up here is better than Kathleen Sebelius,” said former Kansas House Speaker Robin Jennison of Healy.
But isn’t the time to talk party unity on Aug. 2? A united front doesn’t give Republicans much to vote on in the Aug. 1 primary. Kind of makes you nostalgic for the rough-and-tumble primaries of the past.

Unity? Is that what you call the contested Republican primaries for Secretary of State and Insurance Commish? The Kansas Republican Party remains as cleaved and broken as ever. Being nice to each other? Is that what Republican Ins. Commissioner candidate Eric Carter was doing when he told the Pachyderm Club that Sandy Praeger did not deserve to be called a Republican?
I was there on Saturday. Yes! It was just a show, honestly for fundraising purposes. While unity is an agenda, let me tell you than the infighting and the silent discontent for each other is there.
The three top candidates for Republican nominee don’t really get along nor do they trust one another. They haven’t got to the point of slinging mud, but spit balls are flying.
The Repugnicans have had their way with the country and it’s a disaster.HAD ENOUGH YET?
And for these candidates to sit there and say that anything would be better than one of the most popular govs of all time, well, it’s just ludicrous.
a slightly united republican party in a low turn out general election is not good for kathleen.
None of them are arguing with each other because they all know they have no chance against Seibelus.
The modern definition of “racist” is somebody who is winning an argument with a liberal.
I get to moderate the debate tomorrow night…
We Dems, a well-known bunch of in-fighters, duke it out in public, then troop off to the polls to vote for our guy. The GOPers have forgotten this, thanks to the RW/Bible thumpers. Remember when they ran in the primary against Graves? You don’t run against your own sitting guy. That’s dumb. And they got their butts handed to them. But they don’t seem to have learned any lessons. Sigh, shake head in remorse. Again, if it was funny, I’l laugh, but it ain’t.
I truly believe these guys know deep down that they have NO chance against Sebelius. They are nit-picking and struggling to find something to use against her.
mrcontro..: Moderating the debate is quite an honor. When, where, and will it be broadcast?
mr controversy: You and your associates, James Barfield and Phil Journey, did a good job moderating your candidate presentations yesterday evening and tonight on TV 5. I have to admit, however, I didn’t change my mind!
We archived the gubernatorial debate. The link will be up around 9:30 tonight.

Many thanks Mr. C!
Downloading it right now. Quite the download. 121MB.
Joe if you are an independent, why do you attend the pachyderm club? I suspected you were a Republican in Independent clothing.
