You might have noticed a change in the photos in the left rail. I’m sorry to announce that Melissa Cooley is leaving The Eagle today; she’s moving to be closer to her family. She did a great job editing Reader Views letters and Opinion Line, writing items for this blog and helping us Luddites in the editorial department learn new technology. We’ll miss her. I’m happy, however, to introduce her replacement, Dave Knadler. Dave has worked as a copy editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer and as national wire editor at The Kansas City Star and has held editor positions at other newspapers. In his spare time, he writes detective fiction. We are looking forward to his contributions to this blog and to the newspaper.

Melissa- best wishes w/ the move and whatever lays ahead for you!
Dave – welcome to the jungle :)good luck!
We liked you, Melissa.
I’d write you a letter of recommendation.
Let me guess, her family is in Hawaii . . .
Jump in Dave! The water is fine!
Hank
Melissa good luck and to Dave welcome to the home of morons, misfits and malcontents. Oh an the few of us who actually are sane and logical posters. Where did that guy go anyway?
Melissa, you rocked. We will miss you. Best of luck in any endeavor you choose.Dave, got yer goggles on? Welcome to Wichita’s only sane port. Or was that some port? Hell, the bottle was empty a long time ago, so it don’t matter:-)
Dave,A list of in-print fiction of yours would guarantee a few sales.
Dave- Welcome. I think the first thing you should do is reconsider and then demand a hell of a raise!
Melissa, good luck in your new endeavor wherever that may be. Presumably you will be far enough away, you won’t have to pay sales tax towards the proposed downtown arena. But you might miss monitering us bloggers. Enjoyed talking to you at the Bloggers meetup a few weeks ago.
Dave, welcome to Wichita. I read the K.C. TIMES/STAR for many years. And I see you were also once with the Philadelphia INQUIRER. Back in the 1960’s, a young fellow named James Steele was just getting started as a cub reporter with the K.C. STAR. He covered the area where I worked. He later moved on to the Philadelphia INQUIRER where he made a name for himself in the field of journalism. Did you happen to know him?
On another EAGLE blog, I recommended a good local mystery book, THE WICHITA MYSTERIES, by Gaylord Dold. Its actually three stories in one book written in the old Mike Hammer style. The setting is Wichita, around downtown and in the Delano area, in the 1960’s as I recall. The mystery now is, what happened to the author, Gaylord Dold?
I think Gaylord or “Lynn” Dold is still around. I heard him when he was one of those hosts for a KMUW pledge drive. They said he was working at Espiscopal Social Services. I don’t know if Dold still works as an attorney.
Dold’s first few books were set in 1950’s Wichita. But he and his protagonist, Mitch Roberts (supposedly named after Robert Mitchum), moved to different locals in later books.
Welcome, Dave! And good luck with your writing, both Eagle and fiction.
(Okay, guys, aren’t you going to ask him if he uses a formula for his detective fiction? Come on. It’s genre fiction. ;) )
Melissa,Best of luck where ever you’re going. I for one, will miss your contribution to the blog. Maybe now that you won’t be on the ed staff, we’ll see you as a poster?Don’t forget us….you’re part of the family.
Dave…….BWHAHAHAHA!Welcome to our nightmare!
Bye Mellissa. Good luck to you.
I just hope Dave isn’t another “values boy” Only so much of THAT drivel can I take.
Hola. I come in peace. (Although not necessarily as a “values boy.”)
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Hi, Dave! You got some big shoes to fill (Melissa was my favorite! :-). But if lived in Philly, you can probably handle this group! Maybe. . .
Good luck to you, Melissa!
I’m the one who chronically leaves out. . .(preview? what’s that?).
My God, stop the presses! One of the Eds replied on the blog.
I like this guy already.
YEAH X!
And that after MY not so warm welcome!
Hey Dave, good start! Stick with us!
Wait a minute! Dave said “Hola”.Where’s Ian when you need him?
Oh my. Melissa gone. Damn. Another GOOD one bites the dust. Would the last person leaving kansas please turn out the lights?
Melissa was really good, and I agree, Dave has big shoes to fill.
Welcome Dave.
The fighting 101st keyboarders are a tough group, but kinda fun. And we have a great beat for dancing…
Hey, can ya cook? WE bloggers need a pastry chef. I feel a blog get together coming on to welcome you. Just dont step on my potato salad territory. Heheheeheheh Or Hank’s burger territory or Julie’s cookie territory.
So Dave, as a little welcome to the blog gesture, could you throw us SANE bloggers a bone by telling the WE editors how STUPID they look by publishing values boy every week?
Too bad we didnt get to have a party to send off Melissa in style. She certainly deserves it.
Melissa, best wishes in your new life. I hope you never have to be on the same page with a jerk like values boy again. You are a journalist. ’nuff said. Go get ‘em.
