How to fill up Lawrence-Dumont?

Wranglers owners have sent the city of Wichita clear signals that, if it wants to keep the baseball team (and the popular NBC tournament, too?) in town, then attendance at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium needs to increase.
It seems late in the game to be trying to boost attendance, especially during these sweltering dog days of summer, but we’ll throw it out there to the blog: Anyone have some good ideas for boosting attendance?
My idea: Cage dancers in the outfield.

Tiahrt’s day on the shooting range

Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, was among the House members mentioned in an Associated Press story about the hundreds of informal lawmaker clubs, which aren’t subject to lobbying disclosure laws. The story noted that the “caucuses offer companies, interest groups and their lobbyists an opportunity to schmooze lawmakers out of public sight.”
Tiahrt’s mentioned affiliation was with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, which rented a Maryland gun range and held a shooting competition on a May day when the House was otherwise doing business. The group’s motto is “We give sportsmen a voice — and a seat at the table.” Tiahrt and another lawmaker suggested the event was not about lobbying, though. “The lobbying community can come by my office any time,” Tiahrt said.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . .

My latest column presents the ongoing adventures of . . . Bill Gale! Election Commissioner!
Gale has tried to single-handedly push through a sweeping election reform, without consulting or involving many of the local stakeholders, but he’s learning that it takes a village to run an election.

Deep thought for the day

“Marriage is not about love. It’s about a love that can bear children.” — Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., during the debate in the U.S. House about a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage (via The Kansas City Star’s KC Buzz Blog).
