A bouquet of sunflowers to Paul Harris, columnist for British newspaper The Observer, for most of his "Ode to Kansas" last week. “I love Kansas,” he wrote. “It is one of my favourite spots in all of America.” As he hit the usual plot points about evolution, abortion, “Wizard of Oz,” gunfighters and Bleeding Kansas, he also observed that “Kansas is not flat” and that politically, “Kansas is constantly reinventing itself. It is a place of great and rapid change. It always has been.” And though it’s no fun to see our state characterized as “a blank canvas,” Harris at least didn’t stop there: “It is waiting to be drawn upon. It is the promise, despite everything, of opportunity. That is Kansas.”

Last weekend some of us rode to Hays, and did some “sightseeing” around that part of the state. We took in the “Garden of Eden”, as well as the world’s largest ball of twine and the geographic center of the 48 states.
Americana at its absolute, unvarnished best! I am actually proud to live here!
I love my home state. The wide open spaces make me feel so alive, and there is nothing like the kind, down to earth, geniuiness of the Kansas people. Every time I travel, I always come back here and kiss the earth.
It’s pretty for sure. One of the coolest thing I have seen is I saw a couple of white tail deer grazing beside a couple of horses in a pasture.
It was a wonderful sight.
Damoon, you hit it on the head when you said that Kansas has great people! Some people tell me I am overly friendly when I travel, but when I tell them I’m from Kansas, it seems to make sense. Aside from BTK, tornadoes, and hellishly hot summers, Kansas is a great place to live!
