This Flag Day will find many Americans displaying Old Glory proudly — or should. Since the Sept. 11 attacks refreshed our ardor for this enduring symbol, too many flag users have become flag abusers, by failing to follow proper etiquette for the flag’s display and handling. Between today and July 4 is a good time to replace tattered and faded flags, and talk with young relatives about how the Stars and Stripes are woven into our nation’s liberty and very identity.
As U.S. senators prepare to try again pass a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, though, Americans are right to wonder where the flag bonfire is that regularly inspires this vote (or is it just that it’s an election year?). The rare cases of desecration of this precious symbol can be prosecuted under existing laws. Americans should resist this and other unnecessary attempts to amend the U.S. Constitution — especially when doing so would curtail the constitutionally protected freedom of speech, and when the Congress has so much truly urgent work to do.

Personally, I don’t see the big deal with the flag burning stuff, but at the same time I cannot see how making a law against it, infringes on one’s freedom of speech. It reads like a bad talking point. It seems as silly to me as saying Abortion is protected by a right to privacy, yet your bank is requried by law to report to the government any time you withdraw more than 10,000 dollars of your own money out of your own bank account. (If that isn’t an ivasion of privacy nothing is) Interesting I never heard a single pundent, activist or aditorialist have a tantrum when it was discovered that the insurance industry convinced (bribed) the NTSB to require “Black Boxes” be placed on your new car, without your knowledge and accessable only to insurance compaines and LEO’s.If you’re looking for an attack on freedom of speech, look at McCain/Fiengold’s incumbent protection act. Now, that is a real attack. Instead of attacking real and clearly blatent violations of recognized rights, we have all these obscure, and impossible to defend claims that make it to the surface. It makes no sense.
Is it time to fly “old glory” upside down?
Every sailor is taught to fly his flag upside down when his ship is in grave distress.

My flag went up about 6:45 this morning and will stay up until sundown.
Most might inturpt an upside down flag as a measure of disgrace. Probably not a good idea.
But worth a mention to those who love their constitutional country.
Happy birthday RD
Who cares. Its just a piece of cloth, sewed together by someone in another country.Anyway, the Canada flag is nicer and better

“Who cares. Its just a piece of cloth, sewed together by someone in another country.”
Gosh, that sounds like a bushism related to “the constitution is nothing but a g.d. piece of paper!”
Heheh, bush doesnt need to burn the constitution in public when he can BURY it in private.
KSFG, are there ANY politicians you DO like? No, I mean American politicians!
Yeah tracy, I hate american just like you think.
Why is it that pointing out the error of america is hating america?
“If you are not with us you are against us.”
