New York Times columnist Tom Friedman wrote of an experience that many Wichita parents have had recently, too: going to a commencement ceremony and being struck by the “stunning diversity — race, religion, ethnicity — of the graduating class.” Diversity has become a bad word lately, but Friedman sees it as reason for optimism: “America is still the world’s greatest human magnet. We are not the only country that embraces diversity, but there is something about our free society and free market that still attracts people like no other. Our greatest asset is our ability to still cream off not only the first-round intellectual draft choices from around the world but the low-skilled-high-aspiring ones as well, and that is the main reason that I am not yet ready to cede the 21st century to China. Our Chinese will still beat their Chinese.”

Yes, our diversity is a great asset and a crowning achievement of human rights and personal dignity.May God bless our diverse population, and curse the nitwits who are trying to screw with the constitution.
Now if we could provoke our young to get the education they will need to compete with the rest of the world, especially the Chinese. We need to educate engineers at a far higher rate than we are now. And science is seeing a dearth of quality graduates.
Of course, the IDer’s don’t help any, and with 72% of this state thinking it’s the proper thing to teach, other states will have to take the initiative.
Great point, JM.
Finish your homework kids.
There are Chinese kids starving for your job. And Indians, Malaysians, etc.
You have a point Walker, but you have to face the fact that many children just want to be American Idols, Sport stars, or rappers and etc.
Tracy and J.M.Walker, good points. Whether America likes it or not, we are now a multi-cultural nation. People from all over the world want to come to “America” for education and the American experience.
If you want to experience multi-culturalism here in Wichita, visit a Wichita high school cafeteria at lunch time, with the principal’s permission of course. I believe the best incentive for various cultures to get along in our schools and to compete for a better future world wide is to mix the cultures in our schools.
Sorry Ian. I know this is in direct opposition to your thinking.
Again, as I have remarked before, I am reminded of the dialogue in the classic movie, CASABLANCA, where travelers stuck in Casablanca in WWII kept repeating something to the effect, “We want to go to America.” I suspect the tremendous power of this magnetism is not understood well here in “America.”
I will try this on you bloggers. Perhaps our #1 weapon against despotic foreign leaders (including Saddam Hussein back in about 1990) is to invite them to the U.S. to attend the U.S. Army’s “Command and General Training School” at Ft. Leavenworth for several months. This would educate foreign leaders in our American way of life. I am convinced that we should have brought Saddam Hussein to United States back in about 1990 (I would have to research the dates) for a reorientation of his thinking.
Instead our U.S. State Department sent an emmissary, one Ms. April Glassby, on a half-baked mission to Baghdad with a garbled, ill-timed, misguided diplomatic message misinterpreted by Saddam Hussein to charge forward with attacking Saudi Arabian oil fields. Result: tragic, wasted and misguided expenditure of billions of dollars (eventually zillions??) on a war for which there is still no end in sight.
“There are Chinese kids starving for your job. And Indians, Malaysians, etc.”
Wow, Tracy, what a quote! But it is true, whether the job is moved to them or they are moved to the job (here), and it doesn’t matter if the job is skilled or unskilled.
In the presence of quickly changing times our future lies with our children. I am not sure we are impressing upon them the importance of being prepared, nor providing them the tools to get the job done. Somehow we must impress upon our children that education is the key to preparedness and preparedness is their key to the future.
I’m sorry Tracy, Damoon, et al but your multi-racial fantasy world is soon coming to an end. Gloabalism, democracy and racial diversity are all about to be thoroughly discredited and I say good riddance!

News article filed by BNP news team
Official research commissioned by the Home Office suggests that the more ethnically diverse an area is, the less people are likely to trust each other. The Commission for Racial Equality has also carried out work looking at the effect of diversity on individual well-being which backs up the Home Office claims.
Interviewed on the BBC programme “The Happiness Formula” earlier this week the chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, Trevor Phillips accepts that people are happier if they are with people like themselves.
“We’ve done work here which shows that people, frankly, when there aren’t other pressures, like to live within a comfort zone which is defined by racial sameness.
“People feel happier if they’re with people who are like themselves. But the question is: what does “like themselves” mean?”
Trevor Phillips earns a staggering six figure salary funded by hard working British taxpayers to state the “bleeding obvious”. A visit to a Caribbean community club in Bristol, Manchester or Brixton will reveal an unsurprising singularity of composition as would a similar visit to an Indian workers club in Leicester or Wolverhampton, a Polish veteran’s club in Dundee or Ipswich and a Chinese Welfare Association in Glasgow or Brent.
Of course humans do not just prefer their own kind based on factors such as race, culture, language, shared common interest and age, but consciously seek out and join with in mutual enterprise and association those who think, act and look like one another.

Oh yes, this multiracial thing is working out really well! Perhaps some jews and leftists should go down and tell those god-like minorities that only Whites are racist. Kumbayah, diversity is strength, wah, wah, wah, blah, blah blah!! rotflmosrfao

Ongoing racial tensions grow deadly
Long-running tensions pitting Blacks against Mestizos in California’s frightening public high schools have led to the shooting death of one Mestizo as officials prepare for expected retaliation.
Augustine Contreras, 17, died after being shot by what witnesses say were Blacks at Venice High, near the famous beach. Contreras was reportedly shot in the chest as a group of about five Blacks beat his two brothers shortly after “classes” let out on June 5 (2006). Responding personnel were initially unsure of the source of the wound, so massive was the blood flow.
California schools have been rocked by rising racial tension, especially between Blacks and Mestizos, as the immigration crisis has swelled with Mestizo militancy. While such violence is under-reported by “mainstream” news outlets, it has been ongoing up and down the state. Problems have also been seen elsewhere in the United States, and are expected to continue.
Los Angeles-area Blacks have been increasingly marginalized thanks to Mestizo influxes that have made former ghettos into barrios, with once-powerful Black gangs fearing for the lives.
Black-Mestizo tensions are also seen in the large California prison system as well as in competition for jobs, housing and social services.
Many Blacks have joined anti-immigration groups out of fear of the Mestizo invasion.

Ian, I think you are right that people prefer to live with people that are like themselves. However, I think the lines of likeness are changing in many circumstances. It seems to me, from what I see in many communities that people like the diversity and are happy living with others of diverse cultures and races. The average WASP is happy living next to a Black couple, a Jewish couple and an Hispanic couple as long as they all live in $500,000+ dollar houses in a gated community, all have 2 children, and both husband and wife work outside the home at $80,000+ per year jobs. However, change that to a community with all the same racial makeup, be it Black, Indian, Hispanic or White, average income of $12,000 or less per year, with an average of 4 children or more per family and throw in a mix of drugs and unemployment and you have a community that nobody is really comfortable in.
Basically, it has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with opportunity and personal dignity. If people are given the tools and opportunity to succeed some of them will. It is not a given, some will fail. The thing I am concerned about is that we are NOT giving our children the education, nor impressing upon them the importance of seizing the moment to prepare them for the opportunity to succeed when it presents itself. They may not get a second chance.
So what Ian? You’re from Boston aren’t you? Haven’t you heard about how the W.A.S.Ps vs. the Irish? What about the Germans vs. the Italians, Italians vs. the Irish, Germans vs. W.A.S.Ps in New York during the influx of European immigration in the 1920s and 30s? Even today the Germans and the Italians don’t get along with each other, proving that the “socially-superior” “white” race is culpable of the same hatred and bigotry that any member of the human family is capable of. Alas Ian, you may take comfort in the fact that there are “minorities” who are as narrow-minded and bigotted as yourself.P.S.I’m surprised you need so many guns in your house given the fact that you live in a “white” neighborhood and you “get along with your redneck buddies.” You’d do Mr. Rogers proud! I wonder if he ever had to pack that much heat? But then again I remembered that you’re a self-hating Hispanic in denial, and paranoia is congruent with your lighter skin tone = racial superiority / purity rhetoric.
