So where was values boy’s column today? Isnt this the day of his pious pronouncements that pass as “editorials”? Was he spewing forth in print and just not in the on-line edition? Did he “conveniently” take some time off on the day of the meetup?
Has the WE finally come to its senses on his embarassment of a column?

Great meet up at the Wichita Eagle. It was my first chance to meet the editorial staff, all impressive people. It was a real pleasure to get to talk to Randy, Melissa, Philip, Rhonda, and Richard.
For you regulars that didn’t show up, it’s too bad you skipped the chance to have some input to OUR blog (excepting those who were out of town or my friends, lol!).
Thanks to the editors for the oportunity to sit down and discuss what makes this blog work. I think we’re going to see some interesting things come from our blog.
Wichita EAGLE editorial/opinion staff … thanks for the very informative meetup and tour of the EAGLE’S newspaper production facility. It came off without a hitch. Too bad more people didn’t attend. We discussed several good ideas that might be adopted for improvements to the WE Blog.
I’m in LaJunta at a holiday-inn, preparing for the launch into the high country tomorrow. There’s a computer in the hotel lobby, so guess where I ended up?

I agree the meeting went well last night. I didn’t get to talk to everyone, but really enjoyed the ones I did. Congrats Eagle!
Mountain Man and I enjoyed last nights get together. We had good food with friends (even though the service was real slow) and then met up with more friends. It was a pleasure to finally meet the editorial staff. (Phillip – thank you for your kind words regarding my experience with that nasty troll.) I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to actually get to talk to some there (Joe Williams, Gster…)but it was great to see everybody!!

The WEBlog editors told us how many hits they get every week.
What they didn’t tell us was how many different servers log on . . . in other words, how many hits are from the same small group of people.
They’ve set the Blog up so that it will be a sniping free-for-all.
The other day, somebody logged on with the name “Heywood Jablowme” and the editors did nothing.
You flatter yourself too much to think that any but a small group of regulars are going to waste their time on these potshots, cheapshots, and crackpots.
Interesting news in the real blogosphere today about how one of the tech guys at Huffington’s blog was trolling and attacking one of the site’s official bloggers.
Lots of controversy about whether someone who is a site administrator can change logs on who/when posters hit blogs and if someone associated with the blog should identify themselves as such when posting like a regular reader. Very interesting discussion.
But this jumped out at me at #22 in the comment section.

I disagree with outlander’s description of kfg.
kfg is angry, yes, but she’s said why. She’s angry largely because she can’t marry the woman she loves in Kansas, and the GOP wants a constitutional amendment that will make it impossible for her to marry anywhere in the US.
When you watch your neighbors drive away to the polls and then return home to the warm bosom of family that they’ve just expressly denied you forever, well I believe it’s easy to understand how that affects both your attitude and your opinion of your neighbors.
I suspect that if outlander found his family lawfully stripped of certain legal rights, due to a US constitutional amendment, he’d be very angry, too. In fact, outlander just might come here and joke bitterly about the lie given to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” by his neighbors and fellow citizens.

I hope you all will accept my apology for not attending the meetup last night. I’m crushed that I couldn’t be there, but my daughter had taken the 3 & 4-year-old girls to a friend’s to swim, and there was no way I could shower and get ready with a 2-year-old who had already christened the new beige carpet with ketchup 4 times. The girls arrived back home at 6:45, leaving me no time to clean up my act (me) and get to the Eagle.
I’m devastated, but I’ll live. The 2-year-old is another matter entirely.
Well, I’d really wanted to make it to this meetup, but excrement occurs. And I guess I might as well make it official: I’ve leaving town, for real, to Tucson Arizona. I suppose I can still blog (”of course it’s work-related, boss–the regulars from Slashdot hang out here!”), but, for the next meetup, I will need coordinate flight schedules with Tara. :(

And, of course, I would have liked to meet the editors. I’ll give my advice to them here anyway, such as it is: institute EASY registration. I don’t know how much of a hassle typepad is, but configure to be easy and mandatory (if you can!), and tell people it’s easy. All you really need to keep track of is name and a real email address. Logging IPs is useful, but doesn’t work well as a registration requirement.
You needn’t force anyone to display anything other than their nic.
Since it might scare people off, assure that it’s easy as 3.14159265. . .
P.S. TRACY, if 70% of the voters of my state insisted on making me a second-class citizen, I’d be a mite pissed too. . .

Other than the fact you weren’t there, I don’t think it really made much of a difference. Anyone that couldn’t or wouldn’t attend was a loss to everyone concerned. The more the merrier and beneficial.
I believe that the editors were very accommodating. They stayed until after 9:30pm talking and giving tours to us. Very patient in awswering all of our questions. I felt a real sincere desire to make the BLOG a better place to express our ideas.
