In a New York Times commentary, former Nebraska senator and governor Bob Kerrey (in photo) shared his take on the Department of Homeland Security’s squirrelly funding cut of 40 percent to New York City, even as cities such as Omaha see increases (which prompted Jon Stewart to joke about “renowned Midwestern terrorist Omaha bin Laden”). After Kerrey scolded the Nebraska bashers and pointed fingers at the department’s funding formula and process, Kerrey argued that “some funds to defend New York City should be included in the annual defense authorization bill” and that all Americans “must indicate we are willing to pay more for our security.” But will they? Or will it take another terrorist attack first?
The next day, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff wrote a commentary headlined, “New York, You’re Still No. 1,” blaming the media and arguing that “these 2006 grants continue a financing stream that places New York and Washington at the very top of the list in terms of money received.”

The problem is yes New York is a big target, but not the only place that terrorists may strike. It would make no sense to fortify New York and leave other targets open. Part of terrorism is the shock value, not necessarily the body count. Imagine if you were to wake up tomorrow to hear that everyone in a small town close to you had been killed with nerve gas! Every man, woman, child and dog were died, because terrorists had released a gas. Not only would there be the lost of life but also the loss of comfort. It would mean nowhere would be safe from a terrorists attack.
Not only is the “terrorism scheme’ the great farce to ever impale the US Treasury and make the Israelis rich, but it also offered Rumsfeld and Cheney the avenue to foist their ” Project for theNew American Century” on the unsuspecting American People.
This “Project for the New American Century” { PNAC } was the grandiose product of a Washington-based Cheney/Rumsfeld “think tank” which carefully laid-out plans for “world conquest. ” and attracted a group of megalomaniacs calling themselves “neoconservatives.” But also needed was ruthlessness and who other than the far rightwing ruling Israel, the Zionists. But arming them to the teeth as the first order of business for the neocons would not be enough, they needed a piece of the pie.
And along came no other than George W. Bush, the well connected empty-headed ex-drunk who could be manipulated into thinking he would be the next savior of the world. Just what the doctored ordered. With him in the White House and Cheney steering the ship and Karl Rove to sell the package, the show was on the road.
The misnomer “terrorism” could be sold as real, so, with a little help, the phony “War on Terrorism” was born, and the first place to fight it was Iraq. A walk in the park as the “brutal dictator Saddam Hussein could be brought down, as the Iraqis would throw flowers on the road of advancing Americans. One glitch: The Iraqis wanted to keep their country and their oil.
So Rumsfeld needed a bad guy, and who better than someone who could be sold as a brutal “terrorist”: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi { Rumsfeld’s mirror image without the tie, and Karl Rove’s scapegoat }.
The best laid plans of mice and men do go astray.
America, the superpower, is based on it’s ability to destroy the world, not to conquer it.
That costs too much money.

The only viable way out of the “terrorism” trap is to make peace with the Arabs.
I’m surprised there are no voices in favor of such a plan.
Conditions could easily be made to make Israel safe and respected and the give the world a sigh of relief.
There are enough “hot-Spots” in his world, which should deter us from making even more.
This current “strategy” { if you can even call it that } has no end in sight, along with bankrupting The United States.
The War on Terrorism is as effective as the War on Drugs. And how’s that going?
RD,
The “War on Poverty” also bit the dustbin of time, which fits so neatly into that old adage: “If you have to give it a fancy misnomer { as with the Patriot Act } then it’s asking you to judge a book by its cover.”
{ or trying to convince to buy whatever nonsense they’re selling }
Iraq: 70,000 to patrol Baghdad
Wearing his bright and shiny Abu Musab al-Zarqawi belt buckle, looks like Gunslinger Rumsfeld vows to kill all 27 million Iraqis if that’s what it’s going to take to pump-up the sagging polls about the “war on terrorism” { get a new supply of body-bags }.
Maybe Karl Rove could “up” the polls if he changed the name of this debacle to: “Dying for Democracy,” you know, kinda spice things up a little, with a new face to frame and hang over the fireplace.

CNN
“Iraq contractors make billions on the front line”
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/13/iraq.main/index.html
We spend billions to create a threat against us, put ourselves vulnerable to retaliation, then spend billions to defend ourselves against the very danger we’ve created against ourselves.
I’m I missing something here, or is a moron steering our ship on a very dangerous course?
Then when his dad { Bush Sr. } points out the dangers involved in doing what he’s doing, he snaps back with: I’m the “decider” here and I’ve “decided” that the one who is creating all the trouble can’t be fired { paraphrasing, but you get the point }.
Smell the coffee? Our boy Bush can’t figure which end of the cup to drink out of.
The Aflac duck has more sense.
This endangers our security and Bush can and should call a halt to it. We have that power.
Ruthless daily murders serve no worthwhile purpose.
