I’ve been skeptical that the House and Senate could reconcile their competing immigration reform bills, even with President Bush’s intervention. Now the House has decided not to even try — at least until after the elections. House GOP leaders announced Tuesday a series of field hearings in August, which will push final negotiations on a bill until the fall, at the earliest. Apparently, they prefer a campaign issue to a comprehensive solution.

Well, what did you expect? If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.
On the upside…all the attention, protests and parades has resulted in increased law enforcement and arrests. Like the latest..the worker at Cessna filing a complaint that he didn’t get medical benefits because he is ILLEGAL. A-duh…that got him and his wife arrested, because they are (drumroll, please) HERE ILLEGALLY.
Bout time…
Looks like they will put it off until after the elections. Sigh!
I’m agreeing w/ Mr.C. They talk the big talk but can’t walk the walk or even carry a big stick (sigh).
Duh – Ya think they “punted” because it became clear that no bill was going to actually pass, given the differences between the House and Senate proposals?
If that is the case, perhaps the issue SHOULD go to the voters. Lets see just how big the issue is with the voters, and which approach they want passed.
I prefer anything other than the Senate’s comprehensive solution.
RA,
You are correct in that it would be better to have no bill than a lousy bill. The senate bill was treasonous and destructive. In fact, the bill was so outrageous that I wonder if it was not designed to provoke violence?
THE INSANE US SENATE
By Frosty WooldridgeJune 5, 2006NewsWithViews.com
Amnesty-citizenship Senate Bill 2611 for illegal aliens stands for complete, unbelievable and unchangeable insanity! Our reckless U.S. Senate launches our country toward adding 200 million people from outside our borders. This bill will prove the disintegration of our nation, our way of life, our language, our sovereignty, our culture, our schools, medical systems and create an unsustainable society.
“It’s a sad day in America when the lawmakers side with the lawbreakers against law abiding citizens,” said Ezola Foster.
Senator Teddy Kennedy’s stupid, moronic and infantile 1965 Immigration Reform Act added 106 million people to our county in 40 years. He opened the gates to a flood that grows by 80 million worldwide annually. What in the name of sanity was he thinking then, and now? That’s the problem; these senators are not thinking about the kind of America into which they are drowning us. They stand bereft of their minds, ethics and understanding of their actions.
Oath required by the U.S. Constitution and by law taken by senators:
I, John McCain, Ted Kennedy, Arlen Specter, Martinez, Hagel, etc., do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God. (5 U.S.C. 3331)
Any senator who voted yes for the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill, Hagel/Martinez bill or Specter bill or senate bill 2611 stands in violation of his oath of office: Article IV Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution: The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive against domestic violence.
The above men and the majority the U.S. Senate stand in violation of their oaths of office. In 1986, McCain, Kennedy, Specter and the rest of the senators in office at that time, signed an amnesty that allowed a reported 1.4 million illegal alien migrants citizenship. Their real numbers became 3.4 million. Those senators promised to enforce borders from further invasion.
After his tenure in office, President Ronald Reagan said that signing that bill was the worst mistake of his presidency. “We the people….” have suffered seven more insane amnesties since 1986. We suffer an invasion of our country by Mexicans, Chinese, Koreans, Central and South Americans.
Senate Bill 2611 provides for two million legal immigrants annually. Over 85 percent of Americans demanded reduction of legal immigration and a complete stop to illegal alien migration. Does any senator with a brain larger than a ground hog’s understand what adding two million legal immigrants annually will do to our sustainability? Does any one senator understand what the West will do for water by adding tens of millions of people? Has any senator asked himself what kind of America he or she is creating for our children?
This bill reaches beyond insanity into a new realm of ’super-insane’ governmental incompetence and loss of integrity. While our super rich ‘upper-class’ hides in gated communities and private schools, “We the people….” discover what it means to have our language trashed, crimes beset us like the plague, diseases, our schools ripped apart, poverty spreading like a social ring worm and our ability to enjoy a sustainable America turned into a cultural nightmare.
Charles Hurt, writing for the Washington Times on May 16, 2006, said,
“The Senate immigration reform bill would allow for up to 193 million new legal immigrants — a number greater than 60 percent of the current U.S. population — in the next 20 years, according to a study released yesterday.”"The magnitude of changes that are entailed in this bill — and are largely unknown — rival the impact of the creation of Social Security or the creation of the Medicare program,” said Robert Rector, senior policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation who conducted the study.
Although the legislation would permit 193 million new immigrants in the next two decades, Mr. Rector estimated that it is more likely that about 103 million new immigrants actually would arrive in the next 20 years.
Senator Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican who conducted a separate analysis that reached similar results, said Congress is “blissfully ignorant of the scope and impact” of the bill, which has bipartisan support in the Senate and has been praised by President Bush.
“This Senate is not ready to pass legislation that so significantly changes our future immigration policy,” he said yesterday. “The impact this bill will have over the next 20 years is monumental and has not been thought through.”
On May 25, 2006, the Senate passed this insane amnesty-immigration bill 62 to 36. This day shall go down as one of the greatest disasters of self-inflicted mortal destruction of a society and government in the history of the world. Rome’s Emperor did the same thing in 375 A.D., which led to its downfall in 476 A.D. Our senate follows Rome’s fate starting on May 25, 2006.
The U.S. Senate consists of 62 insane traitors to their oath of office. Thomas Jefferson writhes in his grave.http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty159.htm
V.L.R.B!!
Now the Republicans can talk tough, and do nothing later.
steve has it exactly right. The republican reps are sending a message to the voters, “I want to reverse illegal immigration. Remember that in November. ‘course after you reelect me, I won’t do anything more than I did in this term. But don’t think about that.”
The Washington Post last week ran a story on the willful non-enforcement of immigration laws. Back in 1999, the INS mounted efforts to nab illegal immigrants, and their employers. They went after some large-employer meatpackers. Oops. The meatpackers had Beltway connections. They contacted their representatives, because the raids shut their businesses down. No workers=no production=no income Also, a lot of smalltown retailing businessmen weren’t happy losing big chunks of their customer base. Resolution: no further enforcement of the law.
The Mexicans are a lot more integrated into our economy than most Kansans appreciate. Individually, they are just looking for means to support their families. At a deep level, they are responding to invitations to “fit into” the American economy. Not just in food production, but increasingly in construction, retailing, and very importantly, cleaning houses, cooking and watching kids for Euro-American wives who would rather work outside the home and generate income than be fulltime housewives. It’s happening here. I know women right here in Wichita who are employing immigrants to do their scutwork, who don’t WANT TO KNOW if their domestic workers are legal or not.
If we enforce the laws we now have, is anything else needed?
I am an immigrant – LEGAL – and proud citizen. I have been so angry about this whole illegal immigration issue I could scream. I worked my fingers to the bone E-mailing to key senators to persuade them to forget about McCain-Kennedy (an insult to the intelligence of the American people and those people who are going the legal route to get here), but the arrogant s.o.b.s had not the courtesy of a real response. Now there is a need for public hearings around the country? What a sham! The Congressional delegations in both Houses know the voters’ sentiment on this issue already, but are so caught up in the inside-the-beltway backbiting and backstabbing that they fail to represent the people who voted them into the positions they are in. While I am pleased that the Senate bill is going nowhere, I am very disappointed that the closing of the border by whatever means necessary is also by the wayside. The President’s small effort is not enough. Perhaps as the election draws closer he will actually direct the current laws to be enforced!
