Gay vote couldn’t even get a majority

As expected, the gay marriage amendment didn’t get the two-thirds vote needed to pass the U.S. Senate. Not only that, it couldn’t even get half the votes, failing today 49-48. That’s only one more vote than the measure got in 2004. But, hey — GOP lawmakers can tell social conservatives that they took a stand for marriage.

On the June 5 edition of Fox News’ The Big Story with John Gibson, Gary Bauer, president of the group American Values and a former GOP presidential candidate, asserted that “the American people” believe that a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage “is important.”

In fact, according to recent polling, when asked to prioritize the most pressing issues facing the country, most respondents have cited the war in Iraq, the economy, energy prices, terrorism, and immigration, but very few listed same-sex marriage.Listing issues including the war in Iraq, health care, the environment, and same-sex marriage, a May 11-15 ABC/Washington Post poll asked: “What will be the single most important issue in your vote for U.S. House this year?”

Seventeen percent cited the economy, 11 percent said Iraq, 11 percent said immigration, 7 percent identified gas prices, and six percent said terrorism.

Less than 0.5 percent of the respondents cited “same sex marriage.” The poll had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

This is terrible news, as a result of this amendment being defeated, the sanctity is rapidly draining out of my marriage and the only places that sell replacement sanctity want 10% of my gross income or more.

I hope that all of the evil gay liberals are happy that my marriage is now ruined as a result of their selfish need for equal rights.

Rush,That’s not replacement sanctity, it’s sanctimoniousness they sell! I, on the other hand, will send you instructions on how to plug that hole in your marriage, using only your heart, and it’ll only cost you 2%!

KFG…Amazing poll…less than half of one percent. They sure do make a lot of noise, tho!

And yes, Rush, I certainly feel the solidity of my marriage slipping away. After all, if my marriage cannot be ‘protected’ by a Constitutional Amendment, then I don’t know if I can keep it together……*sigh*

KFG could you please ruin my marriage? We had just got the kids out of the house when my mother moved in, two out of three kids moved back home with my daughter’s boyfriend and my grandson, the mortgage company threaten to take the house so I pay over a thousand dollars a month to keep a roof over my head, we work two different shift so we do not see each other for very long, mom’s dog thinks the furniture is a tree, I can not afford to go on a real vacation, the president that my wife voted for it about to declare himself Emperor.

I think if you and your other get married it may just be the tipping point!

LoL DD how about a compromise we all just become better enlighten and vote intelligently. Using both the head and heart, we bitch and moan about how corrupt the system is. How we can do nothing to stop it, throwing our hands up and walking away. Apathy ruling the day and the government, by doing so what else can the system be but corrupt?

Partisanship has become the deciding factor in politics instead of what is best for the nation. I am doing some “light” reading. It is a college level government book. It said the main difference between a Democrat and a Republican is the view as to who should be doing what? I am a federalist, local government has a better view of what is going on in the state then a bunch of people over a thousand miles away. So the state should be the one controlling the projects that effect it citizens. But there has to be some compromise in matters that are too big for the state.

My mistake has been if I knew nothing of a candidate the deciding factor has been the R beside their names.I do not remember voting for Steve Abrams for State school board, but I may have. Now I have learn what a mistake that has been!

OMG did you not notice that I admit I would rather have Bill Clinton as President then Bush right now?How much more of a compromise could you want from a Republican?

As a libertarian, I’ll vote for Democrats. Hell! I even voted for Nader the last two elections.

I wouldn’t vote for a leftist. I just disagree with that ideology too much to compromise. I can get along and be friends, but would disagree with them politically.

What’s sad is that what I think the Founding Fathers had in mind (a balance of ideals between two or more parties) has been our biggest downfall.

If we’re only going to have 2 parties (and I don’t see a third being relative in the near future), the ideal thing would be to have 2 per Congress and the same for the House. 1 from each party for each. They would either learn to compromise or never get anything done. Probably the latter, I’m afraid, considering what we’ve seen in the last, oh, milleneum.

I think of the running of the country like a marriage. This “I have control for the next 4-8″ years is ridiculous. Clinton may have pissed off a bunch over the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, but there would’ve been a lot of pissed off people, no matter what. Same with everything else. Compromising, the basis of marriage, might go a long, long way in returning this country to what those Founding Fathers had in mind.

    Just my .02.

Hmmm, that was in July of 1976. Heheh. The year bicentennial weddings were in style.

But no bicentennial theme for us. We were waaaaayyyyy too cool for that. You should see the pics of the long hair, orange tuxes and yellow bow ties the groomsmen wore. Dont even ask about the ORANGE bridesmaid dresses.

Heheh. bicentennial meets the brady bunch.

Damn, was I ever THAT young?

Hee hee, the big german wedding, where the towels lasted longer than the marriage.

I’ll let ya dance at my NEXT wedding writerdog. Maybe walker will give me away… heheheh.

LoL KFG, Oct, 76 for me, I am game if you are. How are the tops of your feet? I have to have someone to lead, BUT NO DISCO!IT SUCKED IN 76 AND IT IS STILL SUCKING! Besides I have no idea where my shoes with the six inch heels are. I loaned them to PeeWee and the bastard never gave them back! Said something about he was going to be in some movie. And it was going to be a big adventure, the last time I saw him was in the theater. The movie was getting to a real good part when suddenly it felt like it was raining! Drops kept falling on my arm that was closest to him…I told him I was out of there and split! The next thing I knew he was calling wanting to barrow some money, I guess he was at a payphone as he said I was his one phone call! He really should have gone to a doctor, I think he has asthma as just before it started raining in the theater he was having trouble breathing. I kept hearing he gasping for air and he might have been having a heart attack too. He was say oh..oh, then he started have a religious experience crying out “God…God!”.They may have had to call for EMS as I was leaving the parking lot two cop cars were pulling in.

I have not seen him since, oh well I never really liked those shoes anyway!
