The U.S. death toll in Iraq having reached the big 2-5-0-0 this week, mourning mom Cindy Sheehan has a commentary on the Progressive Media Project’s Web site that re-asks the question on her shirt at the State of the Union address: “How many more?”
Not only how many more dead and wounded troops but also, she writes, “how many more empty speeches and blathering platitudes will we allow our misleaders to utter before they are held accountable?”
Lots of people wish Sheehan would grieve for her son in private. But she promises to return to Camp Casey this summer, near President Bush’s Crawford, Texas, sanctuary.

No matter how much I dislike this administration, for some reason I just can’t bring myself to like this very weird woman. She should get a real job.
Shoot the Messenger, Tracy?
Yeah, the message seems true enough. Leave the message, have what’s-her-name get a real job and get on with her life.Life is NOT fair. Deal with it.
With the same message, Julia Roberts or your favorite might make it easier to do the right thing?
I had an ugly Chevy once. Best car I ever owned and wish I still had it.
It was: ” Look at that thing mommy, that’s scary” ugly.
My car is 30 yrs old and I like no payments.Don’t get me wrong, I’d still take a new Viper if I could afford it.
Cindy Sheehan is willing to put in the time that nobody else wants to do. She’s the “soft target” to make the message go away for some. Not necessarily you, but some who talk out of both sides of their mouth.
Do you know how hot it gets in Texas?
Something tells me Cindy was a leftwing nutjob before her son died.
Now her sons death has given her a platform of celebrity like status to continue being a nutjob in the public eye.
YES. Me and my old car (I call him Expo) like it right where we are.Too cold any farther north, too hot any farther south. There’s nothing the matter with Kansas, well not enough to make me leave.
Yep Nathan, you are right. She’s right up there with angry Bill-O and Rush the dope-head.WINGNUTS, all of em’.
Nathan
There are people who say the same thing about you, only the other way.
“Something tells me Nathan was a rightwing nutjob before he joined the marines.
Now his position there has given him a platform of celebrity like status to continue being a nutjob in the public eye.”
And you’re not?
heheheheh Ben, I was thinking the same!
Sigh. If only Cindy were younger, prettier and richer…
….people might listen to her.
or if she were a blond bulimic like godless, she could get air time and inch space in all the major media outlets and nathan would defend her!!!!!!!
Not you Ben.
No Ed, I’ve never picked up the whiff of wingnut from Tracy.
Are you a closet wingnut T, or ya just dont like Cindy?
I like your posts, no matter how you answer :)
OH he would not. Nathan has principles, even if most people here don’t agree with them.
Ben,
If only I were given that much media time. I wish.
So Cindy Sheehan really isn’t the problem. I’m glad we got that straight.
It depends KFG, is she hot and single?
When they turned the lights on in the beer joint, I’d take whatever was left.
KSfg, I just think that for her own good, and for the good of the country for that matter, It’s time for her to get on with life.
Remember little Illian gonzales, and the run-away bride? Yeah, that’s how most Americans percieve this poor lady by now.
Mental-health? She stays on this track and she ain’t gonna’ have ANY health. And she’s kicken’ a dead horse. Nothin’s gonna’ change until this admin does.
Oh. and thanks for the compliment.BTW, I’m probably about as middle of the road as any regulars here, even though Hank and Nathan can get on my nerves, at time I agree with them. They think I’m liberal, but that’s alright. That’s just because I can’t stand idiots like Bill-O and Rush, etc.
I think Tracy makes good points. Sheehan at this point would better serve her cause by working more with others to build an opposition to BushdaBum and the BushBots for the fall elections. The more combat veterans they can get involved the better.
You mean her 15 minutes are over? :)
Ed, since you are from Texas, do the girls all get prettier at closing time?
heheheheeh
I had to retire my beer goggles.I kept bringin’ home Daryl Hanna, but wakin’ up with Cindy Sheehan. They traded places after I passed out!
I only have one question, between the laughs.
Did ya hafta chew yer arm off?
One of them was chasing my car trying to bite the tire.
Cindy who?
Yeah Joe, that’s what I said.Cindy who?I thought your name was Daryl!
Wow, the Rude Pundit is BLISTERING today on the so-called debate on the war. Blistering language of course, but great insight.
http://www.rudepundit.blogspot.com/
I never went to bed with an ugly woman, but I sure woke up with a few . . . or was that flu? I think that was the sixties.
Rhonda wrote–”lots of people wish she would grieve for her son in private.”
And lots of people are really glad that she’s doing the media’s job and trying to get some answers about this idiotic war.
Why doesn’t the Eagle send someone to Pat Roberts to ask where the Weapons of Mass Destruction report is, the one that he promised that never happened?
I’m going to agree with Tracy. I’m sympathetic and I agree with the message, but the messenger has gotten stale.
Cindy Sheehan DID meet with the President some months before hand. She didn’t like what he had to say, so she demands more meetings.
She had her moment in the spotlight, now she is chasing it like an elderly Paris Hilton.

Marines are not paid or trained to die for their country. They’re expected to make that other sob die for his country.
Nathan, I expect you to carry that “expectation” out.
******
Taking joy in the killing of another, encouraging a young man to carry the weight of the responsibility of another’s death . . . I’d tell you to go to hell, but you seem to already be in it.
“A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war: ‘This way of settling differences is not just.’ This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation’s homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift, is approaching spiritual death.” Martin Luther King
Good quote TC. My veteran friends would definitely say Amen to that after all that they had seen and experienced. That combination od “psychologically deranged” and “spiritual death” is what makes it so easy to do what was done at My Lai, Haditha …
And now our military investigators are saying that nothing “out of the ordinary” was seen at haditha …
Chapter 46
“When a country is in harmony with the Tao, war horses are put out to pasture.
When a country lacks the Tao, war horses are raised in great numbers.
There is no greater illusion than fear, no greater wrong than hoarding to defend yourself, no greater misfortune than making an enemy.
For every force, there is a counter-force. Violence, even well-intentioned, always rebounds upon oneself.”
Chapter 31
“Weapons are the tools of violence;all decent men detest them.
. . .
Peace is the master’s highest value. If the peace has been shattered, how can he be content? His enemies are not demons, but human beings like himself. He doesn’t wish them personal harm. How could he rejoice in victoryand delight in the slaughter of men?
He enters a battle gravely, with sorrow and with great compassion, as if he were attending a funeral.”
“When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace.” (Luke 11:21)
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
Here you are again Ben,
You have no facts other than the crap you hear and you already convict the Marines of being wrong at Haditha by comparing it to My Lai.
I suppose you wont be rejoicing because there was no investigation to show it to be a massacre. That is too bad Ben. Sorry you don’t get to bash the Marines.
I think the only mistake Cindy did was get a publicist and rub shoulders with the far left representatives. Other than that I admire her stance and her protest.
I dont think she began her quest just to get famous. I think she got overwhelmed with the media attention and didnt know how to handle it.
And also I dont think liberals used her as a tool, and actually planned her endeavor! Thats just right-wing hack talk to downplay criticism of the Bush Admin.
What I would like to see is thousands of Protestors camped outside Crawfored, with a Rage Against the Machine reunion show!!
TaodeChing,”Taking joy in the killing of another, encouraging a young man to carry the weight of the responsibility of another’s death”
Show me where I said anything about taking joy in the killing of another.
Obviously, you don’t understand the link between an old Marine and a young one, the brotherhood of ALL Marines.
“I’d tell you to go to hell, but you seem to already be in it.”
Been there, Fung Suey boy. And I’ve been told to go to hell before, obviously by better men than you.
Save the Hong Kong Fooie routine for someone who’s impressed by it.
Use to make 60-65 day patrols out of Guam. We would fly over from Hawaii and take over the boat. Ugliest women in the world in Guam. After a patrol of a couple of months submerged, it would take about two weeks before we ever saw an ugly woman!
Hank
Well, I see we got another pasteron the blog. This one seems to be able to cut and paste, how inventive. Why, I’ll bet toaddawetpants probably goes by a variety of names here. Anybody wanna take a guess?
Hank,I resent the ugly reference to the Guamanian women. After spending 18 months there, they started to look pretty good:-)
Wrong nathan – the pictures taken at Haditha clearly showed that women and children had been gunned down in their homes. The disturbing thing is that the investigation of the coverup seems to conclude “business as usual”. My point is that this is consistent with what Marines have told me personally about the memories that haunted them after their tours in Nam. If you want to bash those Marines feel free to do so.
Hank- That’s really good. I’m keeping my mouth shut.
Ben,
A picture can tell a thousand tales.
It doesn’t show context.
You do not support the troops. You look for anything they do and call them murderers and killers the first chance you get.
I am bashing no one. I am holding them as innocent untill proven guilty. I believe what they say about what happened over your lame interpretation based on photos alone.
Perhaps if you actually reserached stuff instead of making your false accusations you would have known about the Red Cross too. Of course the truth doesn’t matter to you.
What matters to you is more stuff to use in your attempts to attack our brave men and women serving overseas.
From what I’ve read on both sides of the issue, there is not nearly enough compelling evidence to support any actions against the Marines supposedly involved.
Ben, this is still the United States, and in this country a man is innocent until proven guilty. So far, that proof has not been presented in a believable manner.
Being a Viet vet, I know a bit about what can happen during an ambush. XXX is correct in that you do what it takes to get out alive. For terrorist, or insurgents, to use women and children as shields, or to use a house with women and children in it to stage an ambush is hardly unheard of. These are the same people who strap explosives to their bodies and blow themselves up without regard to who they kill, be it man, woman or child.
It would not surprise me in the least to have had the marines shoot into a complex, returning fire, with no knowledge of women or children in the complex. Hell, there may have been no women or children in the complex. It could very well be the people were killed by the insurgents and planted to make it look like the marines killed them.
Many of the so-called soldiers fighting the marines are terrorist fanatics. How do you feel, Ben, about them killing anybody in their way?
While I agree we shouldn’t be there, we are, and our troops are the best trained in the world. To denigrate them jacks my jaws.
If they are guilty of mass murder, they should be brought to justice. But I will support them unconditionally as long as they are there.
I think that this has become less about the truth and more about a crusade for Ms. Sheehan. There is a line, and she has pretty much jumped way over it. I would say she is right there in league with the people who stand outside of military institutions and protest the soldiers. Her son gave his life for this. He joined the military knowing full well that there was a possibility he may go to war and he may die. And he choose to join the military in spite of that. These protests are going against what her son stood for. That’s what I can’t stand about it. No, I don’t agree with the war. Yes, I think Bush blatantly lied to us about it, (and what i don’t get about that is, we are willing to try to impeach Clinton for having and affair – and what president hasn’t – and yet we don’t attempt to impeach Bush for LYING about WMD’s???) but the fact is that these young men and women who are giving their lives so that people like Cindy Sheehan have the right to completely disrespect them, should be respected and we don’t do that, which i think is disgraceful.
Damn Walker, you may have a point.
You gotta have a program just to keep up with SOME posters.
And just who will do this investigation? THOSE DIRECTLY INVOLVED! In the Hariri assasination we rightly demanded an independent investigation rather than relying on the official one done by the Syrian government. Seems we hold them to a standard we refuse to accept for ourselves.
In an occupation the entire population becomes the enemy. This is what I was taught by Viet vets I knew. The insurgents are not just ‘among’ the civilian population; they are ‘OF’ that population. That is the precise nature of a resistence.
Che Guevara once said aboutinsurgency/guerrilla war that the people were the sea in which the guerillas swam. Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for us) he found that if the people did not accept and support him they would cast him out (turn them in). Until and unless that happens in Iraq our presence there will continue to be a hostile occupation and we will be resisted fiercely. That will lead to many more civilian deaths as the civilian population does not accept us and our regime as their rulers.
I hope we can turn this around. I hope that the capture od al-Z gives an opening that can bring the Sunnis into a coalition government. I hope that Iran uses its limited influence with the Shiites to foster compromise and reconciliation. It is actually in Iran’s self-interest to do so (although I don’t know that they see that). I hope this works. However, I am not confident.
I don’t get it, Wendy, how is Cindy Sheehan being disrespectful to the troops? She doesn’t want anymore soldiers to die, as opposed to those who don’t care how many die as long as we “stay the course”.I admire her tenacity.
Che!
Cindy Sheehan knows all about PNAC. She said so, and was immediately cut-off and deemed a dangerous target.
Every neocon I’ve read since has taken a monster whack at her, from the Wall Street Journal to the Dallas Morning News and almost everything in-between.
Krauthammer exploded with a vicious column.
The Project for the New American Century { PNAC } is dead serious about their goal.
She’s got their number and they know it.
Any President representing America and not the “project” would pull-out of Iraq knowing that we’re causing the killings.
Invading Iraq is a part of the “project,” and has nothing whatsoever to do with the so-called “reasons.”
Ben,The Iraqi people aren’t likely to turn insurgents over to American troops, given that we are an occupying force with a sorry record regarding treatment of prisoners. Only when they have a credible government of their own can they turn against the insurgency, and no government will be credible while America pulls the strings. We have stated that we will stay until Iraq has a stable democracy, but they can’t have one while we remain there. In other words, we’re there forever, or until we unilaterally pull out.
So Ed, can you expound on how PNAC is related to the old Trilateral Commission where daddy bush was supposedly a playa? Are they both tied to Carlyle?
Krauthammer exploded with a vicious column.
Now THERE is a surprise. But they quote him here sometimes. His viciousness is only exceeded by malkin and godless.
The falalfel man is just stoooopid and couldnt be that vicious on his best day. He just makes us laugh too hard to be afraid.
This isn’t just a theory.
Israel is moving on Lebanon as we speak.

Its called the “Bimbo Bash”!
anti-Sheehanism
BushCo. keeps spewing the vomit that we have to “honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission for which they gave their lives.” Number one, they didn’t “give their lives” they were stolen by the tumor of the war machine and, number two, it is seriously disordered when one has to keep killing more people just because so many have already died. Since the “mission” erupts from the same boil that is on the ass of our democracy, the mission is inherently disordered. The cycle of violence has to stop somewhere before our democracy can even sit up in bed.
