Dixie Chicks back on top

President Bush has said that he doesn’t pay attention to polls, so he probably doesn’t pay much attention to the Billboard charts. But the fact that the Dixie Chicks’ new album opened at No. 1 may reflect that Americans, including Republicans, are getting more and more fed up with the situation in Iraq. As Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson wrote: “It’s not yet clear whether the new album is being bought by country music fans who are ignoring the industry’s party line because they like the music or by non-fans who are using their credit cards in support of free speech. It is clear, though, that both Bush and his war have become unpopular, even in communities where, as the joke goes, they like both kinds of music: country and western.”

The Dixie Chicks have better judgment than the President of the United States and most of the American people. It just took the dimwitted time to catch-up. All except Bush, who appears to be a slow learner { that’s why his wife came-up with “no child left behind,” so whatever happened to her husband might save the next dumb kid.

Do you mean to tell me Ed that the Dixie Chicks are not part of the Zionist secret plan of world domination?

  4. Posted June 5, 2006 at 7:35 am | Permalink

    Hehe, good one, Tracy.

That’s the media line–criticise the President and get “ruined.”

The Dixie Chicks got banned from some CW stations and it only made them more popular. Michael Moore got blacklisted and threatened etc. etc. and he’s making more money than ever.

The Dixie Chicks aren’t so successful IN SPITE of their opposition to President Cuckoo-Bananas, their successful in part BECAUSE of their opposition to him.

So do many other musicians that I know personally.

To qoute one famous promoter, “Musical talent is only 15-20% of the package we look for.”

I was so happy yesterday when I stopped in Best Buy to buy their new CD and they were sold out, plus all their other CDs were almost sold out, too. I called the manager and he said they have a whole bunch on back order. The radio industry tried to distroy them and it backfired! I’ve been bitchin’ about the unfairness of it for years and now I feel totally vindicated! Clear Channel lost and The Chicks rule!!

Adolph Hitler was able to come to power because most naive complacent Germans didn’t see it coming.

There is no difference between the Zionists; their collective ruthless punishment, no justice, invading neighboring countries, torture and absolute cruelty and total disregard of truth in favor of propaganda…..sound familiar?

At the behest of the Zionists, Rice and Bush are bringing the horrors of destruction to Iran and the Arabs worldwide will have to make a last stand. A small taste of what that can bring can be seen in Iraq.

There is no need for this to happen, as Iran, like nuclear Pakistan threatens nobody.

Actually Ed, Pakistan and India have came close many times in firing off their nukes at each other.

They are using old soviet trash hardware and the telemetaries are bad. No telling where they would go if they launch them.

No! I don’t support Zionism, I just don’t believe that there is a well connected vast consipracy of Zionist trying to control politicans in order to bring dominance in the world.

Life is way to complicated for that and too man interest and differ egos to allow such a thing to happen.

The Dixie chicks are some cowards if you ask me.

They are doing whatever seems to be popular at the moment.

If you read their interview in Time Magazine, they are now saying that they regret ever apologizing for what they said.

It is kind of convienent that now that Bush has low approval ratings they will come out against him.

It is nothing more than political pandering to sell more records.

It is cool and trendy to hate Bush these days, so they are simply trying to make money off that.

They are smart ladies, just not very honorable if you ask me.

Funny thing is: Just when we all thought the Republican party was dead in the next election, along comes the “Dixie Chicks” to save the day!Nothing will mobilize and energize the Republican base faster than some “know-it-all”, sassy mouthed youngster flapping her jaws on the airwaves! They will be happy to vote “against” the Chicks… come to think of it, their attitude pretty much turns me off too!—–
You want to elect a President of the United States based on the way somebody sings?

“come to think of it, their attitude pretty much turns me off too!”

Thankfully sam, the buying public seems to disagree.

I cant find the link, but I read this weekend that the Dixie Chicks set a new record for female artists with this being the THIRD consecutive release that debuted at number one.

I think if I were a recording artist, I would consider how speaking honestly about the preznit might be GOOD for my career.

While I don’t like their music the Dixie Chicks high sense of honor impresses me. They took a significant risk standing up to the bullies in the radio conglomerates. Their attitude of honesty is also refreshing.

    Ben,

Is it honest to issue an apology for publically belittling the President and then several years later say it was a mistake and you should never have done it?

What portraits of honor and honesty… waiting untill the President has poor polls and the release of your new album to take another shot at the President.

If they were honest they would have stuck to their guns and have been telling the world what they thought of Bush since day one.

I don’t care what they say, I am laughing at the timing of it. I am laughing more that Ben is sitting here with praise and accolades for it…

Nathan – they made a mistake in allowing themselves to be pressured in making that statement. They have subsequently shown the courage to acknoledge that mistake. That is a lot better than Bush has done with HIS ‘mistakes’ (e.g. WMDs, etc)

Well, Karl Rove has the election in full swing. The Network News is now full of the “War on the Bogeyman” and the Bogeyman is out to get you. And Bush conveniently forgot to tell us what he threatened Iran with in order to get a counter threat of reduced oil shipments.

That works, as Karl is moving to remove the Bush/Israeli threat which first spiked crude oil and dump it on the Iranians.

I belong to a group of writers called the Ditzy Chix. At the time the Dixie Chicks made their comment about Bush, we had a guestbook on our website and received some of the trashiest comments from people who thought we were the singing group. We politely sent emails to a couple of the worst, very politely pointing out that they might want to check our NAME before going off half-cocked.

It was funny, in a way, but it wasn’t fun reading the nasties that people posted. I felt truly sorry for the Dixie Chicks and still do.
