Good for the Wichita Bar Association for getting more aggressive about diversifying the mostly white, mostly male legal community. Now, the diversity action plan needs to result in action within the city’s law firms and Courthouse, making it more likely that local citizens involved in civil and criminal cases will encounter lawyers and judges that reflect the community’s diversity. That, in turn, should lead to a better racial and gender mix of judges in Sedgwick County and Topeka. Justice may be blind, but its stewards need to look like the communities they serve.

Works for me. Nothing like a little taste of what they legislate. Of course I would much prefer something with real justice behind it, like a limited season. We could use ambulances as bait, and really watch them buggers diversify when they come in for a landing.
YBS,Wouldn’t it be easier just to go plant land mines on the golf course on Tuesday nights?
Ok so the main problem with the system could be fixed by a sex change and a dye job? Boy I wish my life was that simple! Does the word “CLUE-LESS” come to anyone elses mind?
Looks like Rhonda is championing more veneer rather than substance. This desire to treat people like equipment would be laughable if it was not being done in the halls of power. It should be about competency, not about if you are mostly white and mostly male.
ProudMan,One must consider that Rhonda’s background is a very visual one far removed from reality. If one’s career is based in the make believe world of “Arts and Entertainment”, Ballet, and Opera, it makes perfect sense that the appearence of the set is more important than the talent of the cast.
The truth is that there aren’t that many black attorneys out there. It’s not a matter of not hiring minorities, it’s an issue of the candidates not even existing.
At my current company we’ve had a req open for 8 months for a high-pay/high-skill position which will pay 75K+ and we can’t fill it because we are required to hire a minority and no one has applied. Meanwhile, we’ve had more than 15 qualified caucasians apply but we’ve had to deny them because of this position the company has taken so they can look good in the name of “diversity…”
Go figure. Only in America…
Not hiring someone because they are white? And I thought racism was gone in America.
At Wichita Municipal Court the Administrative Judge (aka chief judge) is a woman AND she’s black. (In my professional opinion having worked with her she is fair and impartial and nice to work with.) All judges at Wichita Municipal Court are appointed by City Council for a term (most of which are renewed).
Wouldn’t diversification of the legal profession result in an increase in the total number of lawyers? We need to rethink this! How about for every minority lawyer graduated, we shoot two old white ones?
