Immigrants a force to be reckoned with

The massive, historic immigration rallies that drew more than 1 million people nationwide Monday and hundreds in Wichita didn’t bring the economy to a standstill, but the marchers did prove that they wield significant economic clout. They also succeeded in sending a message that’s hard to ignore: Illegal immigrants are here in huge numbers, they’re part of the fabric of America’s economy, and they refuse to be treated as common criminals.
Such high-profile marches and boycotts undoubtedly will alienate many Americans, who don’t see illegals as having the citizen status to demand rights of any kind. But the sheer numbers Monday suggested that the nation must find a practical, just solution that enforces borders, assimilates many of these people, and helps put an end to this underground economy.

It’s a huge drain on the system, from health care to schools. I say annex Mexico, make it the 51st state, then they all can pay taxes, serve in the military, etc. Seems like we should get something out of this deeal.

They’ve turned their country into a Third-World country and will they do the same with the United States?

They can “lift things” but can they put the deals together that make “lifting things” turn into money?

And if they don’t have the “smarts” to do that they’ll take us down with them.

They don’t seem to be able to make Job-Creation happen at home.

Like it or not that is the way wealth is created. Socialism is fine to argue about, but it doesn’t turn a dime.

Because our Federal government is paralyzed by the Iraq war and our state government is paralyzed by super-expensive school, medicare and prison issues and our county government paralyzed by involvment with the county citizens recreational activities — who is going to realistically deal with immigration issue?

In my opinion, Sedgwick County government needs to step up and immediately establish an “Immigrant Reception Facility” to receive all immigrants arriving in this county. Services would include identification, fingerprinting, health checks/shots, furnish information about rules and regulations, etc. Then issue a “work/residence/school/gov’t services” identification card.

Then require this card to live in Sedgwick County.

Frankly, I believe we can absorb some immigrants in Wichita to work, shop, attend churches, etc. Many good people wanting a better life. But for everyone’s protection, they must be identified just like bona fide American citizens.

So who is going to take the lead?Hopefully someone with real vision. We need a blue ribbon committee to move forward on this.

10 million people doing an illegal thing does not make it legal.

Their sheer numbers proves a few things:1) their total disregard for the existing immigration laws of this country2) the pathetic lack of real border control3) these rallies are well orchestrated/organized4) a willingness to be disruptive in demanding their ‘rights’ when they have none.

There doesn’t seem to be much interest in assimilating into the mainstream of this country, rather protesting for their ‘rights’, disrupting traffic, maintaining their language and customs, and sending money to Mexico instead of investing here.

If you ask me the next Mexican-American war has already started and we are way behind. Our Government will just let them take over because all of their attention is in Iraq & Iran and getting Votes in the next election.

Welcome them? Before we get too kindly, maybe a little field trip is in order. Go visit some border towns like Ciudad del Acuna, or Juarez, or Mexicali, or Nuevo Loredo. What is to be seen there? Cities that are almost 100% slum. Downtrodden, dirty, no civic pride or care, etc.

Do we want to turn our cities into that? Ok, that is why they want to come here, for the jobs. Yet, the living standards come with them. That is not derogatory, they know nothing else.

Do we want to turn our cities into slums?

While the imigrants parade downtown, fill our emergency rooms, and buy expensive food on food stamps – we are all at work to pay taxes that support their zest to still be mexicans. What would happen if we all statred a hobby as a businesss and deducted everything fot the hobby and paid less taxes to support the overthrow of America? Better yet, we demand to pay less taxes to pay for higher gasoline and demand to pay less taxes to support this national disgrace. The only reason this epidemic has been allowed to this extent is BECAUSE MANY BUSINESSES MAKE MORE PROFIT WITH PAYING EVERYONE LOWER WAGES. Obviously you haven’t spent much time in Mexico, Ray. The border towns are not representative of what Mexico looks like or how the Mexican people live. It is a beautiful, lush country that looks like paradise in many places. The Mexican people are hard working, decent people who are very family oriented, and they don’t whine or depend on their government to take care of their every need. Just like most of us, they will risk anything to take care of their families, even if it means breaking the law and entering the country illegally. I’d do the same if that was the only way I could feed my children. There is a workable solution, we just need to figure out what it is. But don’t count on this administration to do it.I still think making Mexico the 51st state makes sense.

Im sick of hearing how nice, hard-working, god-fearing,patriotic Mexicans are! If they indeed possessed all those attributes, then why is their country not superior to ours? Look folks, the fact is they broke the law by coming here illegally. Now laws apply to everyone irregardless of how nice, god-fearing, hard-working, patriotic they are! If I broke the law and was put on trial, could I not get convicted & penalized for my actions just by saying that I’m a hard-working, god-fearing, patriotic nice guy!? No! Dingus and Ben, white guilt won’t solve any problems regarding Mexicans or anything else. See http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110008318

The natives in the Americas were unable to cope with European civilization. As human beings, they were no better or worse than anyone else; but they made bad decisions in dealing with the juggernaut of European expansionism. They lost, and except for the bleeding hearts and pervasive tribal incompetence that remain today, that’s the end of it.

Now the natives of Mexico are invading these lands, not as technically and highly educated superiors, but mostly as the destitute unfortunates of a superstitious society and corrupt Mexican government. In overrunning our lands, they have no claim to our culture or our wealth. We may offer some of it in charity; but it is not theirs to demand. Period.

Insofar as they come here to work, they should have our respect; but insofar as too many of them quickly succumb to leftist victim mongering, they deserve our contempt.

The problem is that we continue to allow millions of people — including hopelessly unskilled indigents, some Mexican gangsters, petty crooks, and a few terrorists — to walk across our borders and take advantage of the wealth and freedoms we have built over the last three centuries.

Many of them are sucking up welfare resources that were set aside for US citizens who have been disadvantaged by our policies in the past. Mexicans deserve none of those resources.

Tough love never appeals to the weak of heart; but unless America protects itself from these millions of squatters every year, we won’t have a country any more. We all know that sending tham back may be too difficult to be practical; but, at the very least, we could stop the flow overnight if our leaders had any sense and guts. Big IF, most unfortunately.

The very idea of illegals demonstrating in our streets for their “rights” is beyond believable. As far as many of us are concerned, the illegals have shot themselves in the foot with these demonstrations. Brownback’s sucking up to them is as politically cynical and distasteful as it gets. He needs to get reacquainted with his manhood.

And, yes, we must rescind the law that automatically confers citizenship on the babies born here to a man & woman who are not both citizens.

I’m tired of the fradululent “law and order” argument. Not because I don’t value laws, but because America has always been a land of lawless behavior, some sensible laws, some really “grey” laws, and some dumbkopf laws.

For example, take Kansas’s law prohibiting entering an intersection after the light turns yellow. You’re driving a car at 40 mph. The light turns yellow when you’re 40 feet from an intersection. Hit your brakes to stop. According to the science of physiology, you can’t even hit your brakes until you are 10 feet from the intersection. Smoke your tires. Where do you end up? Stopped in the middle of the intersection. An arbitrary human-devised law does not trump the law of physics. So, the law of physics says, “You must drive through, or else you will disrupt traffice flow.” But that’s illegal, according to strict adherence to Kansas statutory law. If police accept this discordance, and behave rationally, the law is grey. If they mindlessly enforce it, it’s a dumbkopf law. It is too simplistic. It was passed by people who didn’t understand physics. Mechanical vehicles must obey the laws of physics and human physiology.

Most native Americans did not want “dirty immigrants” being recruited here en masse in the 1870-1910 period. But industrial capitalists paid off legislators to make it “legal”. They didn’t follow the will of the majority of Americans, they followed the money provided by a tiny minority of Americans.

The 12th-14th constitutional amendments were ignored and freed slaves were NOT allowed the rights of American citizens.

Our invasion of Iraq is illegal. IF Saddam Hussein were developing WMDs, including nuclear weapons, to attack America, that would have been a justifiable cause to mount a preemptive invasion. But he WASN’T and the administration had strong evidence that he wasn’t.

Corporations violate laws all the time. They calculate actions. “What is the probability of getting caught?” “What will be the price, IF we are caught?”

On human torture, which is egregiously inhumane, the administration wanted to be not “compassionate conservatives”. So they hired lawyers who gave them convuluted rationales to support torture. The lawyers did not carry out torture. So they could not be prosecuted as criminals. The administration was immune from criminal prosecution, which requires a concept called “mens rea”, i.e. deliberate criminal intent, because it could claim “Our expert lawyers told us it was legal.”

Administration supporters have posed the question to detractors, “If a tortured terrrorist revealed a plot, and this saved the lives of thousands of Americans, would this be reasonable?” But too few people have asked, “Can you torture hundreds of innocent people to extract this information from one terrorist?”

This violates our fundamental principles of decency. “Your totally innocent. We’ll let you go. Forget what we did to you. Just a small mistake.”

Millions of Mesoamericans have come here, understanding that the law only subjects them to sending them back where they came from, and that law is not enforced. Thousands of corporations, not to mention millions of productive families have said, “We’ll hire you.” Mesoamericans have received a very MIXED MESSAGE.

The undocumented aliens only came because American Citizens were lawbreakers in hiring them. So deport the 12 million aliens, and lock up the 40+ million American citizens who hire them, like women who want to earn good incomes, and have nice clean houses, using undocumented laborers, so they can be productive outside the house. Go ahead and tell these women, “take your shoes off and get back into the kitchen. You’re just chattel.”

Ok…since traffic laws are routinely broken, we should do away with them? After all, immigration laws are routinely ignored, let’s do away with them.

This country has a dismal record of enforcing immigration laws, and we are seeing the result of that. Illegal people demanding ‘rights’ offends millions of citizens.

It is time to correct the uneven enforcement. Establish real border control, and deport illegals. Past mistakes need to be corrected and real enforcement is necessary.

If working hard and wanting to better themselves is sufficient reason to be in the country illegally, we could just open the floodgates..after all, there are billions of people in this world who are willing to work hard for a better life. Anyone want to do that?

Damoon, I have been well into Mexico. Auguascalientes and San Luis Potosi or about 200 miles from Mexico City, and I can truthfully say that there are only 2 classes in Mexico: Rich and Poor. Some are so poor that they sweep their dirt-floored homes daily. It isn’t the people who are to blame, but the greed and graft of their government. If we’re not careful, we’ll soon be living the same.

You’re right, it’s their government that’s at fault, the corruption is off the scale, like most underdeveloped and 3rd world countries. I’ve been all over Mexico, and I believe poverty is more a state of mind. No, they don’t have the lifestyle and all the material things that we do in this country, but they are rich in many ways that we are not. American’s often make the mistake of comparing other cultures to ours and then come to that conclusion that we’re somehow superior. That’s a mistake, just because a culture is different than ours, that doesn’t necessarily make it inferior. I love Mexico, and if I could retire there, I would in a heartbeat.

The Gangster Disciples, Latin Kings and Vice Lords were born decades ago in Chicago’s most violent neighborhoods. Now, their gang graffiti is showing up 6,400 miles away in one of the world’s most dangerous neighborhoods — Iraq.

Armored vehicles, concrete barricades and bathroom walls all have served as canvasses for their spray-painted gang art. At Camp Cedar II, about 185 miles southeast of Baghdad, a guard shack was recently defaced with “GDN” for Gangster Disciple Nation, along with the gang’s six-pointed star and the word “Chitown,” a soldier who photographed it said.

The graffiti, captured on film by an Army Reservist and provided to the Chicago Sun-Times, highlights increasing gang activity in the Army in the United States and overseas, some experts say.

Military and civilian police investigators familiar with three major Army bases in the United States — Fort Lewis, Fort Hood and Fort Bragg — said they have been focusing recently on soldiers with gang affiliations. These bases ship out many of the soldiers fighting in Iraq.

“I have identified 320 soldiers as gang members from April 2002 to present,” said Scott Barfield, a Defense Department gang detective at Fort Lewis in Washington state. “I think that’s the tip of the iceberg.”

Here is some more “reality” regarding the immigration mess!

    Interesting illegal-immigration statistics

    ——————————————————————————–Posted: April 28, 20061:00 a.m. Eastern

    © 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

Here are some statistics from the Los Angeles Times:

40 percent of all workers are working for cash and not paying taxes. Why would they want to be legal and pay taxes? They would be able to start bringing the rest of their families to the USA.

75 percent of people on L.A.’s most-wanted list are illegal aliens.

Over two-thirds of all births are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by the taxpayers.

Nearly 25 percent of all inmates in California detention centers are here illegally.

Over 300,000 illegals are living in garages.

The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegals from south of the border.

Nearly 60 percent of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

Of the 10 million people in Los Angeles County, 5.1 million speak English and 3.9 million speak Spanish.

21 radio stations in Los Angeles are Spanish speaking.

    More statistics:

Less than 2 percent of illegals are picking crops but 29 percent are on welfare.

Over 70 percent of the U.S. annual population growth (over 90 percent of California, Florida and New York) are from immigration.

29 percent of inmates in the federal prisons are illegal aliens.

The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a negative.

They also send between about $15 billion back to Mexico to assist their families and prop up the corrupt Mexican government that keeps most of its citizens in poverty. How about a revolt in their own country!

A new figure from yesterday: It cost Los Angeles $276 million in welfare costs for 100,000 children of illegal aliens.

It seems Mr. Kristol needs to do some research.

The USA was built by *legal* immigrants. Not illegals.

As a legal immigrant, I have absolutely no sympathy and do NOT condone these huge marches and demands by illegal immigrants. They have broken the law by entering the country illegally. That makes them criminals, in my book.

On the TV coverage, it was claimed that these illegals pay their fair share of taxes. Huh? I do not believe that for a moment! What SS# would they use to file? Sheesh!

The illegals dont like the situation in Mexico, so they come here. Now they dont like the situation here, and they complain? Why not keep moving north, to Canada? Why not go back to Mexico, and try to fix things there?
