Turns out more and more people knew about the “secret” lunch meeting at which Kansas Senate President Steve Morris, R-Hugoton, and Sen. Pete Brungardt, R-Salina, discussed school finance with Kansas Supreme Court justice Lawton Nuss, in possible violation of judicial ethics rules. Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka, said over the weekend that Morris told him back in March about the meeting. And on Monday, Morris acknowledged mentioning to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that he had contact with the court.
This is getting absurd. The question is: Is there anyone Morris didn’t tell about the meeting? And is anyone ever going to want to talk to him over lunch again?

Looks like he doesn’t want to keep it a secret. And, are lunch meetings suppose to be kept hush?
I love the fact the house wants to conduct an investigation of the Court. WHY NOT INVESTIGATE YOUR OWN PEOPLE IN THE SENATE. They were involved too and seems they kept it quiet until it broke – by the court – and now the list of those in the loop keeps growing. Something is rotten in Denmark.
Agreed J. REPUBLICANS hold closed door meetings with a sitting judge on a case before the court, and the best they can do to paint the dems as bad is say MORRIS TOLD THEM TOO?
Woof. That is a real stretch. There werent any dems in the meeting with Nuss, correct? And big jim and his little dog susan only invited REPUBLICANS to the “come to jesus” meeting with Morris, correct?
Then why the desperate spin, from smearing another justice and his wife, to implying that governor leadership somehow was involved, to the effort to paint barnett as some sort of “good government” type?
Puleeseee!!!
It is gonna be fun to see the evangelicals like barnett and susan “I make my money from bingo but you cant vote on gambling” wagle, absolutely EAT their own party members.
Ideology trumps party loyalty in the good ol’ g-o-p. And when they realized we noticed, they stopped and said “look over there, kathleen is doing, well, she must be doing something wrong”.
I wonder if voters really are as dumb as the wingnuts in the republican party think we are? If there is no fix for school finance, who do you think will be to blame? Here is a little clue…
The LEGISLATURE, with both houses controlled by republicans, has the constitutional charge to fund education.
Could we please stick to the subject here and solve school finance BEFORE the November election?
Barnett and wagle care nothing for education. This is ALL about the election and has NOTHING to do with your tax bill or providing a suitable education for the kids in kansas.
Heheh. I just love how the kansas legislature has the constitutional responsibility to fund a suitable education, but they want to complain that the COURT controls them?
Maybe if they just did their damn job, the court wouldnt TELL them what to do. By doing nothing, they INVITE the court to intervene.
And did I mention that the R’s have a majority in both houses? So… if they want the court out of education, couldnt they just do their job instead of trying to hammer down the court?
Bright and shiney objects. Look, over there, the court is being bad while we.. um… while we… um… do nothing but posture.
Kansas… where the legislature blame others because they cant do their constitutional duty.
I wonder who paid for lunch? If I want to meet with my Representative I have to buy him lunch. Joe McLeland just about tops the list for free meals.
Nothing to see here, move along. Just vote for the money for the dear children.Surely this was the only meeting. Can’t understand why after all the talk on this issue that only now the Allegrucci/Sebelius link is coming up. Imagine a Phill Kline Gov and one of his cronies on the court. Outrage!!!
J, The House investigation will not be into the misconduct of Justice Nuss. Rep O’neal yesterday said he probably wouldn’t even be called. It looks like KFG got the Sebelius talking points this morning. Too bad Sen Hensley didn’t get them yesterday before he let on that the Governor’s anger about Nuss was a bunch of BS.
Yeah blow. Just ignore the real issue and smear the allegruccis when there has been NO PROOF of wrongdoing there.
But we have self admitted proof of the republicans doing it.
I mean, who are the voters gonna believe? Wild speculation or the facts? You, or those lyin’ eyes of ours.
The attempt to link this to joyce allegrucci, when the FACTS show different is desperate and laughable. What is next? Clinton did it? heheheh.
It cant be that the repubs got caught dirty tricking. You gotta stretch it into “bipartisan” land. That is about as big a stretch as that made by another famous republican. You know the one. The ROSEMARY STRETCH!!!!!!
Heheh. You just make the Laughing Stock of the Day list blow. But then, your name is frequently posted on that list.
Keep spinnin’ brother, you might actually get someone to believe you someday. Until then, the facts dont support you.
Heheh. Still laughing at blow.
Can you imagine what would happen if one of the “dear children” did what blow just did?
“Mommy” sniff, sniff, cry.
“Mommy, I know I did a very bad thing and it is a fact.” sniff, sniff, cry.
“But Mommy, there is an unfounded RUMOR that others may have done something bad too.” sniff, sniff, cry.
“Shouldnt you let me go unpunished because there is a RUMOR about someone else?” sniff sniff cry.
“EVERYONE does it mommy, please dont give me the punishment I deserve”.
Heheh. Dear children indeed. YOU are the childish one blow.
Oh yeah, talking points.
They are called FACTS trndoturd.
You repukes should try them sometime.
I cant wait to see how you are gonna pin this one on the democrats.
Keep trying turd.
If you republicans really wanna save kansas, why dont you run someone who can actually beat governor leadership?
I mean beat her on the issues, with facts, and without the rumors and smears.
It’s not like she isnt vulnerable on several issues. You just cant seem to SEE those real issues.
Or find your asses with both hands when it comes to outwitting governor leadership.
Heheh. I’d be tempted to vote for a yellow dog before voting for kathleen again. But you cant even field THAT candidate without the wingnut taint.
In the midst of her diatribe and foulmouthed name calling KFG had a couple amusing points:
Barnett doesn’t care about education. -
When is Sebelius going to submit an education plan? Last year? Nope. This year? Nope. Two years ago? Nope.
Last year Sebelius went on a tour of the state promoting a gaming proposal instead of coming up with an education plan. Since she works for Phil Ruffin, I suppose she is doing a good job.
What was the Sebelius position on the school finance plan last year? Anyone? Anyone? Oh, that’s right she didn’t sign it or veto it. She had her attorney run it across the street to the Supreme Court. Way to take a stand!
Joe McLeland – There’s another useless whatever the GOP says I’ll vote for chair-filler. Unfortunately, he’s my rep too. Maybe I should move. Been thinking about it. Find a nice precinct with a Democrat representing it.
And who stirred up KFG this morning? Good job. She’s right on.
Is it the governor’s constitutional responsibility to fund education?
No.
Is it the legislature’s constitutional responsibility to fund education?
Yes.
Who is not doing their job here?
The gov… or the legislature?
If you repubs want to admit, that with a MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES, you cant get your act together and get a school finance bill out…
then please do so.
I am sure the gov would be glad to take over if you want to admit you control both houses and cant do your constitutionally mandated job.
She’s getting used to cleaning up after your messes.
And since all you have done, all four years of her administration is PISS on every thing she has tried on school finance…
perhaps you would like to actually DO something for a change?
I mean something that isnt queer hating or abortion baiting.
You can do something without those two crutches… cant you?
Dammit, you repubs, stop making me defend her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Run a GOOD ticket that can beat her. PLEASE! Run big jim and susan, and I can hear the chants now…
“Four more years, four more years”
And what is even more important than NO INCUMBENTS?
NO MORE WINGNUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Farmgirl, find where I made an “allegation” against the Allegrucci’s in my post. It’s not there. My point, and I’ll type this slowly for you, is that the press has very rarely (until this past 10 days) even mentioned this relationship. No allegation, just a valid observation. But I’m not surprise, reading comphrehension has never been one of your strengths.PS-Why are you so defensive regarding the Allegrucci’s? Nervous?
BlowJoe – do the Arlegruccis have anything to do with any of this?
“Can’t understand why after all the talk on this issue that only now the Allegrucci/Sebelius link is coming up. Imagine a Phill Kline Gov and one of his cronies on the court. Outrage!!!”
Oh no blow, you arent criticizing at all are ya?
The DON allegrucci link? Trying to link the gov with a justice? Even though there is no evidence of ANY impropriety there? Blow you are so transparent.
You want us to be outraged about the fact that joyce allegrucci used to be the gov’s chief of staff, then resigned, then went to work for the party/ campaign?
Why is that newsworthy unless you are trying to make a link and some IMPLIED wrongdoing? Why SHOULD the media report it if there is no wrongdoing?
Just because you want to divert attention from the REAL scandal here? I call swift boating. If you cant make your point on the issues, start a whisper campaign about some maybees.
Say.. you arent karl rove are ya? He is the master of such dirty tricks?
Naw… you arent even close to being clever. You are just a transparent rumor monger.
Hmmm… isnt there a rumor about george bush and cocaine use? About him STILL drinking? Now there are some rumors for you to monger blow.
I’m not defensive about the allegruccis. I said here before that joyce has been a problem for me and mine on several issues.
I am indeed, though, defensive about swift boating, lying, and generally trying to drag someone through the mud purely because YOUR PEOPLE did something wrong and you seem to think if you can point your finger at an innocent shiney object, we will fall for it.
News flash blow, we bloggers are not MSM. We dont fall for your whispers that easily.
Joyce may not be my friend, but she has more ethics in her little finger than Doug Mays, Steve Morris, Jim Barnett and the whole wingnut wichita delegation does put together.
Come up with a substantive issue and I will likely side against the gov and joyce.
Swift boat ‘em and start a whisper campaign, and I will hammer you all day long.
Grow up. See if your boys can win without mud. You should be ashamed of yourself.
The only reason why we have a lot of Republicans in office, is of course the large church congregations are told who to vote for and support.
The Republicans, this time around, have nobody strong enough in support to beat Sebelius. The good thing is that Sebelius is closer to the true Republican Platform than the actual Republicans in the legislature.
Sebelius got elected because the moderates of both party affilation knew she was the best choice. She’s no leftist liberal and she’s not rightist facist.
She strictly business and has Kansas best interest in mind. She’s a good governor.
Once again, FarmGirl, reading comphrehension. You said I made an “allegation.” You didn’t complain that I was critical. I didn’t make an allegation. Good grief, Farmgirl, I know you’re a bitter, angry person, but try to argue with someone else. It’s hard to keep up with your changing positions. Try John Kerry.
BlowJoe – if not an implicit allegation then why did you bring up an entirely irrelevant matter on the thread?
Because he has the towering intellect of george bush, and the love of literal interpretation of nathan.
He gets caught being stupid, using gop swift boating tactics, and he lashes out.
What changing positions? You are kicking up a lot of smoke and trying to say it is a fire. No proof? Post it if you have it, otherwise, continue to look like the stupid rumor monger you are.
Your smear tactics didnt work and you got caught. Remember Forest Gump? Stupid is as stupid does. Blow, you have had your ass kicked here so many times it isnt fun to watch or do anymore.
But please, continue to give us a big target to shoot at when you have nothing of substance.
Wanna prove your suspicions? Or just let them stand as the evil spin and whisper of the ghost of karl rove?
Blow, at least show where I have changed positions. You can do research and post links, correct?
Or are you just a troll?
Can you answer Ben’s question blow, or are you the kind of poster who not only does no research and posts no links, but doesnt answer questions?
Seems like that is a conservative trait here.
Darling Farmgirl…I just did. That blasted reading comphrehension again. I stated that there had been virtually no reporting of the link between Sebelius and Allegrucci. You said that I made an allegation. I pointed out that I did no such thing, just pointed out the fact. Seeing that you had lost that point, you then charged that I defended myself by saying that I hadn’t criticized the Allegrucci’s. Again, did no such thing. Where you shifted was from saying that I made an allegation to saying that I was critical. Did no such thing either time.Peace.
I’ll just let the readers, with their reading comprehension, read your posts and then read mine joe. I think they stand on their own.
BlowJoe – there had also been no reporting about the dandelions in my back yard. That is just as relevant.
Gee, maybe it’s the Allegruchis who planted them!
Sounds good, Farmer. Didn’t think you’d be able to dispute my superior points. Chalk up yet another for me.Gee, Ben, dandelions vs. a justice on the Supreme Court whose wife is a former top staffer for the Gov. Yeah, those are equal stories.Ben, stop, you’re making a fool of yourself.
Justice Allegrucci, whose wife was Gov Sebelius’ campaign manager, and later Chief of Staff, sat on the BCBS case in 2002.
The BCBS case was issue that got Gov Sebelius elected. “Big bad insurance company stopped by courageous Kansas Insurance Commissioner.” Can you imagine the impact of a negative Supreme Court decision on the new Governor in 2002?
The standard for recusal of a Justice from a case is “appearance of impartiality” not actual impartiality. The Justices are required to act to instill confidence in the court system. Did he keep that standard?
Likewise, in the Nuss case, meeting with one “side” without the “other(s)” present smacks of mediation rather than the actions of a Justice. Did Justice Nuss act to instill confidence in the impartiality of the courts?
