For stepping to the plate, will Brownback get beaned?

Long a conservative’s conservative, Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., has become a divisive figure among his political base on immigration. On the roundtable on "Fox News Sunday," Bill Kristol of The Weekly Standard felt moved to defend Brownback, saying the senator “courageously has voted his conscience, which is for reasonably liberal immigration bill.” Kristol added: “It’s not a matter of racism or nativism. It’s a matter of dealing with this problem, and I think Bush deserves credit, McCain deserves credit, Brownback deserves credit for stepping up to the plate.”

I don’t know that ANYONE could be worse than bush.

My bet would be that Brownback would give it a good shot.

Brownack has “courageously voted his conscience” BUNK Brownback has pandered to his buddies in west Kansas meat packing plants that like cheap illegal labor.

Yeah JR, and he NEVER panders to the “gays are ok if we never have to see or hear them” crowd.

He NEVER uses his so-called religion as a political tool. Oh no, NEVER.

I wonder if values boy is on sam’s payroll?

The war on erectile disfunction MUST be won. We must never stop polishing our weapons, never let our desire for victory go limp, never fire our big gun too soon, never ever accept the inability to rise to the task, and always, ALWAYS fight safely.

    Viva bob dole!

Have to agree with Joe on Dole – while I definitely do not agree with him on issues I find him to be a man of honor. Meeting him in person reinforced that view.

Oh I’ll credit Dole the war hero thing. Too bad his personality was a casualty.

honor? That word has no place in describing any Republican.

‘Honor’ and Dole? I might have said so until he sided with the Swift Boat character assassains. His impugning of John Kerry’s military record and awards was some low, dirty shit. I LOVED the political cartoon in which the mud Dole threw at John Kerry splattered a billboard reading ‘Dole Legacy’ when Kerry ducked. Priceless.

But then again, that was ALWAYS Dole’s role; hatchet man and attack dog, for Nixon and for whomever.

I met Dole back in ‘94 during a field trip to DC. We went to DC to learn politics/government and sightsee. Being as we were from KS we got to meet our senators and representatives. Bob Dole is the only one that didn’t give a little speech and/or answer any questions – it was just a photo op (I still have my pic somewhere). Nice guy but refused to answer any questions from high schoolers. Maybe we were too dumb to know any good questions or maybe we were smart enough to ask the good questions. I found it rather dissapointing (but still worth the week off school).

Valid point CF. Maybe he became embittered in the period after I had met him.

I do know that Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has changed an awful lot since I knew him a couple of decades ago and worked on his freshman campaign for Congress.

Mr. Brownback, if you can not with a clear conscious represent the views of your constituents, you should resign and let someone who will!!
