It ought to be enough that a judicial panel and two legislative committees are probing the lunch conversation of Kansas Supreme Court Justice Lawton Nuss and two state senators. But it’s not, apparently, for state Sen. Phil Journey, R-Haysville, who told The Topeka Capital-Journal that the judicial commission and House panel also should look at possible communications on school finance by other justices and lawmakers. “That’s where the real issue lies,” Journey said.
Oh, please. The contact between the justice and the senators was a bad mistake, no question. But the real issue for Journey and his colleagues is how to constitutionally fund schools.

Remember when the Eagle prized, above all else, open meetings? Guess now it’s a “open meetings for all except for when it’s money for something that we want to spend it on,” policy.
Remember the old sayings, “Separate the wheat from the chaff,” “Cut to the chase”? Those sayings do NOT apply to our Kansas legislature.
Our state legislature takes every detour available. It takes the wrong fork in the road every time. Stops at every coffee shop along the way.
ITS NOW TIME TO CONCENTRATE ON SCHOOL FUNDING — NO EXCUSES.
I didn’t know Sebelius was caught in this scandle. It was on Kansas Week last Friday. The Capital Reporter for Public Radio was talking about it.
It even surprised the Winfield Paper Editor. He was guest on Kansas Week and was unaware how Sebelius was involved.
Rhonda Holman and the Eagle Editorial board will do anything possible to run away and not report on this issue.
Imagine for one minute if this was phill kline instead of sebelius. They would be calling for kline’s head – just like they did in the whole school board conversation flap.
Even after kline was ruled not in violation of the open meetings act, this stupid publication complained about the spirit of the law. What the hell is that!?
Rhonda Holman will continue to discount the importance of this issue until she is blue in the face. Funny, I thought it was a journalist’s job to get the public information….
oh, unless it could possibly hurt their queen kathleen.
prediction on who the eagle editorial board will endorse for the elections this year:
sebeliusmorrisonpraeger (just because there is nobody else)thornburgh (see above)anyone running against any conservative school board memeberanyone running against any republican in the houseanyone running against Tiahrt (the reason they will give will be something stupid like gas prices, the war in Iraq…)
oh, and finally, they will call for the resurrection and nomination of che guevara.
good work eagle.
This thread subject doesn’t have “Bush” in it. So none of the leftist will reply.
Gotta have a “Bush” article and subject to get any responses.
Only 5 posts total, Joe–with two of them yours–but you just couldn’t pass up ANY opportunity to bash them “leftists,” now, couldya?
I agree with Rhonda. Is she a leftist, too, Joe?
No! Rhonda isn’t. I have never said anything againt any of the WE editorial board members. I have no clue what party or ideology they affiliated with.
But you’re right on one point. I’ll always take an opportunity to bash leftist. Just as they take every opportunity to bash Bush. All fair in love and war.
I was just stating an observation. Practially all post that have tons of postings are ones that are about Bush or the Administration. Local issues hardly get a peep.
CHE!!!!!!!!!
Williams, did you note that the last connie “board of evangelicals” morris thread actually holds the record for the most posts since the sotu address?
I think people in kansas are beginning to get tired of the stench in government. Just like people in america, I mean only 70%, smell the stink in the white house.
But hey, bring on another bush thread. Let’s use our “truth” and “truthiness” swords.
Mine is bigger than yours joe :)
Williams, I have been laying off you too lately, but I see you need a little b-slap (in deference to your language preferences) back into reality.
The reason everone is surprised at a mention of sebelius in this scandal is… because…. wait for it….
SHE WASNT INVOLVED!!!!
How the hell can she be implicated when she WASNT THERE!
None of this nuss fuss is about school finance or the “integrity of the legislative process” (I need dramamine to say that).
It is ALL about the governor’s race, and if the legislature has to hold the schools of kansas hostage to get their way… they will!! I mean holding school finance hostage is SO MUCH MORE effective than stomping your feet and holding your breath until you turn blue.
Once again, real slow for some of you, it is the LEGISLATURE’S CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to fund education. Not the governor’s.
And did I mention, that both houses, with the constitutional duty to fund education, are CONTROLLED BY REPUBLICANS?
Sheesh. You guys would rather crawl up on the roof and lie about school finance than stand on the ground and tell the truth about yet another REPUBLICAN SCANDAL.
culture of corruption
Journey would rather have to call a special session than admit that this is a phoney attempt to paint the gov and her FORMER chief of staff with something they didnt do.
More “truthiness” from that oh-so-christian party. “Mom, they did it too”… even if it isnt true!
I think this sebelius/allegrucci lie is just one more reason to vote your legislators into a permanent school vacation.
Who said here the face of desperation is not pretty? This republican smear tactic, while ignoring their constitutional duty, thumbing their nose at the judiciary, and wasting our money in topeka, is indeed the face of desperation. And it damn SURE isnt pretty.
They were just talking about it on Kansas Week. I was just stating an observation.
There is also the ethic’s issue that she was fined over.
I like Sebelius, so it’s nothing personal.
But when the talking point “culture of corruption” is used, I cannot get the Democrats out of my mind. James Trafficant comes to mind when ever I hear or read “culture of corruption”.

Don’t confuse Farm with the facts. Reading comphrehension is not her strong suit.
Gosh, has blow EVER posted a fact or just his drive by shots?
Hmmm, you could always do your own research on republicans vs democrats fined by the kansas ethics commission:
http://www.accesskansas.org/ethics/
But knowing how lazy and researched challenged some of you are, let me post a few examples:
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/4/27/164354.shtml?s=icp
From the kansas city star:Sebelius is the fourth public official in the past year to be investigated by the Ethics Commission for soliciting donations from lobbyists. Last month, the commission fined Attorney General Phill Kline $1,500 after his campaign reported the mistake itself. Sen. Kay O’Connor, an Olathe Republican, paid a $3,000 fine last year; she acknowledged no wrongdoing. Rep. Ray Merrick, a Stilwell Republican, paid a $1 fee after his wife mistakenly sent out a fundraising letter during the legislative session.
Bill Graves fine: http://cjonline.com/login.shtml?orq:http://www.cjonline.com/stories/042806/leg_ethics.shtm
I’d be gald to post more, but why bother since FACTS mean nothing to some of you.
I like the Newsmax link. Nice touch!
Heheh rage. This was the important part of the article, but I forgot how far you had to scroll to get to this:
Ohio Gov. Bob Taft, a Republican, was fined $4,000 last year after pleading no contest in an ethics scandal involving his failure to report free golf outings and other gifts.
