President Bush’s approval hasn’t sagged as badly in Kansas as in much of the country — until this month. The SurveyUSA poll released Monday found the president with a 35 percent approval rating in the state, down a whopping 11 points in a single month. His approval in the Wichita area is a fairly steady 42 percent, but in western Kansas it plummeted from 54 percent in April to 39 percent this month. Given that things haven’t changed all that much in Iraq or the economy over that period, the best guess is that Kansans don’t share Bush’s preference for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for some who are here illegally. Then again, there’s no need to guess: 73 percent of Kansans said last month that they think the United States should attempt to deport illegals.

I don’t think you can credit the dithering on illegal immigrants for ALL of this sudden shift in Kansas polls Re:bush.
Kansas is always behind in everything.
We see that shift away from bush in some of the posters here. Few total bush apologists remain, and those that do tend to be rather hard headed on most other issues as well.
I think folks are finally waking up about 6 years too late.
To those folks? It wasn’t a dream!
With the vote by Brownback to give Social Security to illegals and the vote yesterday against border security it could be interesting next election for these guys. Even the right wingnut like Brownback. If the local paper would actually put his votes and what they were about the folks might catch on the his radical open borders policy. He is up there with George Soros on this and is very dangerous. But of course he has always been dangerous, just usually on the wingnut side.
Shoot to kill. They’ll stop coming.
Word has it that tomorrow is Fitzmas and that Rove’s lawyer is also under investigation. What will happen to W’s numbers after that?
Curiouser and curiouser.

RD,I hope you are right, but didn’t we hear that last Friday?I will believe it when I see/hear it.
Texas does not approve of GWB either. That’s pretty bad.

This is why I talked about a constitutional amendment allowing secession, which would allow states to set their own laws, such as immigration. It’s not right to either deport all illegal immigrants from EVERYWHERE in the USA, nor to allow them to settle anywwhere. Some places can adjust to their presence better than others.
They have no legal right to be here. But pragmatism often trumps the law. If three-fourths of Kansans don’t want Mexicans, then their desire should hold forth. Were Kansas to be an independent nation, then you could have county-by-county referenda. Some counties might welcome aliens. Others would say no. Tip O’Neill coined a phrase, “All politics is local.” That’s the way it should be.
I like Mexicans. Some of you don’t. They don’t threaten my livelihood, but they do threaten some of yours. Or despite your progenitors being foreigners, they gave up their customs, langauges, festivals, and garb to fit into an Anglo-American nation. It irks you that some immigrants are holding onto their identities. Because many of you descend from societies that were not cosmopolitan, but rather isolated, you don’t want to work with foreigners, you don’t to travel abroad–even to your great-grandparents’ countries of origin. Heck, many of you can’t even handle a visit to Chicago. Too crowded. Can’t navigate. Scary. Many of you don’t want to go to ethnic restaurants where creative people are culinary artists. Too “different”.
Now some of your children are going to be taught math and science by Filipinos, because your own people didn’t learn math and science. How are you going to handle this? Are you going to tell the new teachers, “Get out of here?”
I’ll be frank with you. If Kansas could produce everything it needed to be self-sustaining, you could cut off trade with the outside world. But, you see, the Great Plains was never a self-sustaining region, except to small numbers of nomadic Indians. It was only capable of being settled by large numbers of European stock with railroads bringing in trade goods from the outside world.
Unfortunately, what many of you have to trade isn’t worth very much. Your grandparents, parents, you and your children might be able to trade higher-value goods and services, but this would require a different kind of education, a much harder kind of education, than Kansans have demanded.
Children here have been dis-invested in for more than a century. Demand recorded lectures that you kids can study at night, non-standardized-for-all curricula that enable your kids to study most what do they are best at, subject-acceleration in what your kids are best at, higher salaries for hard-to-recruit math and science specialists than for generalists, humanities and social science teachers. Higher salaries for the best humanities and social science teachers, irrespective of seniority. Lobby for the State to pay for home PC’s for families that cannot afford them. Like, $500 plus $300 in software and home internet connection in year one, plus $200 annually for several years, ISN’T affordable? Riiight.
DD, yes and no about last Friday. Supposedly, that’s when Bolten If an official announcement of an indictment is made, it’ll be made by Fitzgerald on the Special Prosecutor’s web site followed by a press conference at Main Justice.
Time will tell.
Twas the night before Fitz-mas?
Dont you just love Senators in Washington and the stupid Democrats that pander to felons and want to give them your Social security money?
We all need to praize our leader Mr. G.W. Bush. He seems to be the single American with enough wisdom to appreciate the plight of the undocumented workers who work to make America strong. In spanish the name Bush is Arbusto. When many ignorant lazy Americans talk bad about the main leader of the Americas they fail to have the compassion for the working and poor that Mr. Arbusto has! Our wish is once we have amnesty that Mr. Bush (Arbusto) will bust the heads of the lazy Americans who only effort is to preach hate. In fact I would like to invite everyone and Mr. Bush especially to a “Welcome to America” party when we celebrate amnesty and have tamale dinners, pig roasts, and lots of festivities to celebrate Meximerica our new country and it’s bright future. All who come can use their vision cards to buy hams and beers to bring to the national day of rejoice and celebration. We are now Americans, like everyone else!
Juan Perez
Thank-you all to all Americans. Especially brave congressmen like M. Brownback for giving amnesty to all hard workers. We are full Americans now. Thanks to Tiehart, Brownback, and Roberts. You make America wonderful for everybody!
Good grief, general santa clause got scared and ran back to mexico, and now Juan valdez takes his place with the samo samo nonsense.

Lazy Americans this topic is the COMPASSIONATE PRESIDENT BUSH WHO HELPS POOR IMMIGRANTS! Not rove trash!
Praize the Prez!
Go Mr Bush! (Arbusto!)
Viva Bush!
Everybody come to the celebration festival to cheer on Mr Bush and amnesty for everyone!
Viva! Viva! Viva!
“The non-Europeanization of America is heartening news of an almost transcendental quality.” (Ben Wattenberg, Jewish ‘philosopher)
Watch what you say now GRINGO! We have the votes not. Where will you go after the next election? They don’t have many computers down in Mexico and it’s really cold in Canada?
Can’t you just see the deport ‘em now crowd using “Mr. Juan Perez”, to stir up emotions against the illegals? Not done very convincingly either.
Juan Valdez,Then I suggest you go back to Mexico and teach them how to use a computer. But I imagine your a gringo with an identity crisis and a propensity for stupidity. Does your mom type your posts for you?
Juan with the wind,
On the off chance that you are what you say you are, I submit that your people have no pride. They have fled their problems for the easy solution of pittance wages and virtual slavery.
Friends of my mom are having a new foundation built for their new modular home. We went out to see. One of the workers was hispanic. He spoke no English.Clearly he did not have the skills in language and computer use that you have.
He was on the site for more than 16 hours that day.
His pay which he was ever so happy to get?
$15
FIFTEEN DOLLARS! For 16 hours hard work.
My moms friends were shocked by this. They didn’t make the arrangements. The house company did that.
“Your” people are willing to flee rather than fight for change in their homeland. They would rather work for “change for a dollar” an hour here. And you as the best of “them” are PROUD of that?
I do not know what to make of these insurgents… You know who I am talking about…
When you usually make fifteen dollars every ten days, fifteen bucks for sixteen hours is probably worth leaving home for.Yeah, I know, it’s just perpetuating the problem.
The truth shall make you free
Ditto
Yo gringos do not get IT! The fifteen dollares that my brown brother makes here in Wichita is fifteen dollars more then the lazy gringo made who went without work because he was replaced by a good person who was willing to actually work and for less too.
That is today. My homie amigo has a job and another gringo stays home. Now the rest of the crew is worried and will work harder, longer, and for less money too. This is the new America. Next week the workers ten brothers will be in this country. They will each have a wife and several kids too. We all will vote soon. You gringos sit and play on computers and will not work for new job rates. This is just because many are too lazy. In a near election coming very soon – many lazy people will get to stay home too! Viva America! Viva mexico!
Ian, stop it with the trolling man, everyone knows that you’re the one posting outrageous comments under hispanic names just to get everybody riled up. Indeed you were careless since you used your past pseudo-monikers Truthregardless, and Mataindios. I see you are proficient in ebonics as well! Quite an accomplishment!
Once again, CrusaderX and I agree.
Think I’ll just kill myself now.
Viva Presidente Bush!
Amnesty means FOREVER!
Your Mexican American AmigoPablo Hispanol!
Pablo, you’ve been eatin them payote buttons again, aintcha?
Nice article. I would lover to more news that supports our great President. Since the liberal media runs the news they will never say anything good about this compasionate leader leading the way in a threatening world.
In fact, just last week, Mr Bush passed record legislation to reduce taxes for us rich. We no longer pay much income tax for rither INTRUST INCOME or DIVIDEND INCOME! wow!!! WHAT A COMPASIONATE PRESIDENT. You just got to LOVE him!
Say if you have a 132,000,000 (million) in a few banks and you earn ten percent income per year on that money sitting in the banks …… we make over 13 million dollars a year. Thanks Mr Bush for greatly reducing Interest Income tax and Dividend Income tax. I make much more in dividends that in interest so this year I will buy a rather large new yacht and spend most of the year on vacation. The great thing is earned income tax for those who work did not get reduced so the poor slobs who get up early everyday will pay for all the dumb Americans not working any longer. I invest in companies that hire cheap undocumanted labor and that way my dividends are accumulating very rapidly. Minimise expenses (labor) and maximise profits (dividends). What a year! What a President.
You have to dearly love this pasionate leader of ours!

Sorry, I hit submit on my laptop before I did the spell check. Guess I was paying too much attention to the blonde that pulled up to the internet café driving the little BMW. Here is a better read friends.

My Gawd . . . is it a full moon out? We are getting more trolls here then Mexicans crossing the border.
nope, Ians back.
And Wichitan’s think the rural areas are backwards!
TO the President and the Senate:
You are either with us (American Citizen) or against us (for Illegal aliens).
You will be replaced by someone from either party that does not dither on National Security. ALso they understand that the border is National Security.
Nothing can be considered until the border is secured, will deal with other issues later.
What this is really about is votes. 12-30 million that whoever expects to put in their pocket.
The elected representation is ignoring the 200 million voters that want the border secured by a 4:1 margin.
From:David J. Stoddard,U.S. Border Patrol (RET),Hereford, Arizona
Dear Mr Frist
#1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. Citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans and other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining the benefits offered by the United Sates, such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.
#2. There are no jobs that Americans will not do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans cannot take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans will not do for a decent wage.
#3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are NOThomeless and they are NOT Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send money to their real home as evidenced by the more than 20 billion dollars sent out of the country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens knowingly and willfully entered this nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation. Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.
#4. Illegal aliens are NOT critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5% of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful U.S. Residents.
#5. This is NOT an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at one time or another.
#6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants by definition. The U.S. accepts more lawful immigrants every yearthan the rest of the world combined.
#7. There is no such thing as the “Hispanic vote.” Hispanics are white, brown, black and every shade in between. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats,Anarchists, Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called “Hispanic vote” is a myth. Pandering to illegal aliens to get the Hispanic vote is a dead end.
#8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848, Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I, Mexico allowed German spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S. During World War II, Mexico allowed the axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War, Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today, Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. If you do not believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.
#9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less than one dollar a day. If wanting a better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak into America, then let us allow those one billion to come to America and we’ll turn the USA into a Third World nation overnight. Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I will bet Bill Gates and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting a better life a good reason to trash another nation?
#10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students, unemployed and underemployed who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.
#11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure America? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities and take the American Dream without paying the price?
For about four decades, American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties. A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will be high. There have already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters. There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to U.S. citizens or to offend those of us who are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will be civil unrest. There will be a reckoning. Do you have the courage to do what is right for America? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who do not even have the right to remain here?
There will be a reckoning. It will come in November of this year, again in 2008 and yetagain in 2010. We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators and thieves.
David J. Stoddard,U.S. Border Patrol (RET),Hereford, Arizona
TESTIMONY OF DAVID J. STODDARD, SUBMITTED TO U.S. SUBCOMMITTEE ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE, DRUG POLICY AND HUMAN RESOURCES, REPRESENTATIVE MARK SOUDER, CHAIRMAN.
February 22, 2002
Sirs:
My name is David J. Stoddard; I am a resident of Cochise County, Arizona. I served my country for 30 years, first as a soldier in the U.S. Army and then as U.S. Border Patrol Agent for 27 years.
I have no personal interest in illegal immigration or in U.S. drug policy except as a patriotic citizen of the United States. I am not being paid or influenced by any entity whatsoever for my testimony submitted to you this day.
There has been a great deal of debate recently over needed changes in U.S. Immigration Law. The United States has the most liberal immigration policies in the entire world. Our laws are designed to protect the American public from criminals, subversives, terrorists, disease, the insane and from those who are likely to become public charges. There are no U.S. laws designed specifically to exclude any deserving person from legally immigrating to the United States. Any person may legally immigrate unless he or she falls within an excludable class. This is for the public good. If existing laws were enforced as intended, there would be no need for new laws.
Currently the United States admits more people as immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers than all the other countries in the world combined. Right now one-fifth of the U.S. population is a foreign born or dependant child of foreign born residents. Since the 2000 Census, the population of the United States has increased by 3 million people according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
According to various Mexican media and official Mexican government sources, the country of Mexico has 18 million of its citizens residing illegally in the United States at this very minute. Mexico claims to have 30 million persons of Mexican descent in the United States. I have no reason not to believe these claims.
According to official U.S. I. & N.S. estimates, Mexicans comprise only 54% of the total number of illegal aliens within the United States. Again, I have no reason to dispute these figures. I hope this gives you some kind of perspective as to the great influence illegal immigration has upon our society.
Since I have lived and worked on the Mexican border all of my life, I am most familiar with the problems presented by illegal Mexican immigration and I would like to focus on that aspect.
- According to former Chief of Police, Ruben Ortega, 80% of the street level drug dealers in Salt Lake City, Utah are illegal Mexican Aliens. I believe we can extrapolate that percentage to any major city in the Southwest.
- According to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, 24% of those incarcerated in the United States are foreign born, most of them Mexicans.
- According to the California State authorities, that state must build the equivalent of one grammar school a day in order to accommodate the population growth of school aged children, again, largely due to illegal immigrants, most of whom are illegal Mexicans.
I submit to you that Mexico has instituted policies which encourage its citizens to sneak into the United States.
For example:
- Mexico has discontinued the government subsidies for propane, diesel, tortillas, beans, electricity, housing, bread and commodities for poor people.
- Mexico has opened additional consulates in practically every state in the union in order to assist its citizens obtain U.S. benefits, “rights” and to assure legal help in the instances of “discrimination” in employment, law enforcement and in any other legal matter.
- Lawyers retained at the behest of Mexican officials quickly take civil action against any U.S. citizen who chooses to protect himself or his property against illegal Mexicans. This is designed to deter any interference by U.S. residents in the free flow of aliens and drugs across our borders.
- Mexican school children, from the primary grades, are taught that the United States “stole” (from Mexico) the land now called California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Utah. Furthermore, these children are taught that were it not for the United States “stealing” California and the gold therein, that Mexico would be a superpower today. I have heard that with my own ears. That is no exaggeration.
- The President of Mexico actively encourages its citizens to illegally emigrate to the U.S. and in fact frequently refers to those who do so as “heroes”.
- I can give you the names of eight high-level Mexican politicians who have left office in the last decade with a minimum of $700 million each. These ill-gotten funds could have been used for the good of the Mexican people.
Based on the above facts, I see no reason for any change in U.S. immigration laws. But I see a great need for change in the way Mexico imposes upon the United States. The American people are expected to provide free medical care, housing, education, food and other basic needs to illegal Mexican aliens. These are all services that should be provided to our own elderly, handicapped and poor.
I do see a need to alter the way in which the United States administers its immigration laws however.
Currently the same administrator dictates enforcement and services. Under Doris Meissner, the INS became a service-oriented organization because Ms. Meissner considered all aliens, legal and illegal as her “clients”. Enforcement under the U.S. Border Patrol became non-existent except for a narrow corridor along the border. This encouraged illegal aliens to keep trying until they were successful in traversing that corridor beyond which they could live and reside as long as they wish and do whatever they want, while the services branch of INS does everything it can to make their status legal. This status quo has not changed under INS Commissioner James Ziglar.
This is a schizophrenic approach, which does not, never has and never will work. The INS must be separated into two agencies, one to provide services and the other for enforcement purposes. The U.S. Border Patrol must be allowed to do its job in strict accordance to the law without regard to political correctness and without regard to state, city and local boundaries. This is the only way we can remain a sovereign nation. We cannot allow a foreign nation to dictate our immigration policy, which is the current standard. Either an alien has legally entered the United States or he has not. The legal alien is entitled to benefits and services. The others are not.
Every single person who has sneaked into this country made an informed decision to violate the laws of this country and has accepted the risk of detection and deportation. None of them should be allowed to reside in the U.S. without first exiting and making a legal application for entry in order to screen for criminals, the insane, subversives, terrorists and disease.
The U.S. Border Patrol simply cannot handle its mission under present restraints. Its job is to protect the American public and preserve the sanctity of our international borders. That cannot be accomplished while our borders are overrun by aliens of every nationality and while bureaucrats place unreasonable restrictions on how agents operate.
- I urge the immediate deployment of U.S. military troops and equipment on our borders to seal them against those who would cause us harm. This could be only a temporary measure to allow us to regain control to again become a sovereign nation.
- I urge the separation of the U.S. Border Patrol into a separate agency responsible for the detection, interdiction, arrest, prosecution and/or deportation of drug smugglers and illegal aliens. An experienced enforcement officer whose primary purpose is to protect America and American citizens must run this separate agency. That separate agency must have its own budget and control its own spending. This would assure that the law enforcement agency doesn’t have to dance like a puppet at the whim of a non-law enforcement entity with an agenda of its own operating the purse strings. A professional law enforcement agency must be in total control of enforcement, (with Attorney General and Congressional oversight, of course), or political special interests will exercise undue influence as has been the case with the Border Patrol for the last 78 years.
I realize I cannot be more specific and detailed due to time restraints, so I respectfully submit this to you at this time.
Sincerely,David J. Stoddard
great post! I sent a brick to congressman Chuck Schumer of NY. Let there be 280 million bricks to show these yellow bellied politicans of ours that this is country is controlled by the people, like it was supposed to be dammit!
