President Bush deserves credit for speaking out Monday against the idea of mass deportation of illegal immigrants in the United States. "Massive deportation of the people here is not going to work," he said. "It’s just not going to work."
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger dismissed the idea Sunday: "It would cost $500 billion. Who’s going to pay for that?" he asked.
Good question. Unless someone has a serious answer, Congress should move on to practical solutions that balance enforcement and opportunity.

Here is some REAL common sense on immigration.
by H. Millard
ONE OF THE LATEST phony arguments for amnesty and for not enforcing our immigration laws, parroted endlessly by those who have not put their brains in gear, is some variation of this dufus gem: “There are twelve million illegal aliens in the country. Let’s get real, we can’t round them all up. Let’s find a way to allow them to be citizens.”
Well, we don’t actually have to round them all up at one time. We just need to start enforcing our laws. Then, many will stop being illegal aliens by simply heading back to their own nations where they can enjoy the status of not being illegal aliens and where they can have all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship — in their own countries. Also, when we really start enforcing our laws, many more citizens of other nations will decide not to come here in an illegal manner.
It’s time that the U.S. stopped being the path of least resistance for those seeking comfort away from their own nations. It’s time that the U.S. became a difficult place to enter. Not only would this be good for the U.S., but it would be good, in the long run, for the nations that these people are leaving. When faced with a fight to make their own nations nice or take flight to another already nicer nation, too many people are taking that latter option. It’s too easy to flee. This keeps their nations from evolving into nicer places and is causing the U.S. to devolve into a less nice place.
No, we don’t have to round up all twelve million illegal aliens. The problem will start taking care of itself once our politicians start acting like responsible leaders protecting the interests of U.S. citizens and making sure our laws are enforced.
Call it the traffic cop principle. The above phony argument sounds like this to me: “There are millions of people who break our traffic laws. We have speeders and red light runners and you name it. Let’s get real, we can’t stop them all, so let’s find a way to not have to enforce our traffic laws.”
Indeed, why have traffic laws and traffic cops at all since so many millions of people break the laws? Well, we need the laws in order to control the problem as much as possible. By having cops enforce our traffic laws, everyone who drives is aware that if they break the law they may be caught. This helps keep them from breaking the law.
And, why do we have any laws at all about anything? Because these are the rules that we’re all supposed to play by so that we can reasonably pursue our ideas of happiness and live our lives pretty much as we want in a free society.
Oh sure, we have to give up some of our freedom to speed and run red lights but these are things that most people understand are necessary and reasonable in any society where you have many people living together.
The same thing goes for our immigration laws. They’re there for very good reasons and they help U.S. citizens live in a First World society where they can pursue their American dreams as is their right as citizens.
Enforce our immigration laws half as much as we enforce our traffic laws and watch the illegal alien problem diminish overnight.http://www.nationalvanguard.org/story.php?id=8730
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
When politicians start putting the common good ahead of their own political careers, or if a miracle happens, and the people actually take no bull and wrests power away from the ineffectual federal government, then America will be for the Americans. Now, we’re just the pawns of Sharon.
“We will bury you without firing a shot.”
Nikita Kruschev
This is fitting for America shall soon be buried without a shot being fired if illegal aliens keep flooding this country! I’d like to find the bastard who coined the term “undocumented workers”. Look folks, they came here ILLEGALLY, calling them undocumented is not gonna remove the stigma of their being here illegally! See how the Left seeks to play the semantics game trying to substitute the proper term “illegal alien” with “undocumented worker” in hopes to remove the stigma of their being illegal! I gotta hand it to them though, they’re very cunning, sneaky, and under-handed just like the Serpent.
“Santiago” means St. James, in Spanish. James is derived from the Hebrew name Jacob, which means “supplanter”. A supplanter means one who usurps and displaces another. You see Jacob, under the connivance of his mother, deceived his father Isaac by puttting on a lamb skin, who mistook Jacob for hairy Esau, and gave Jacob Esau’s blessing. This defrauded Esau. Was this illegal? Only according to morality.
Some of you seem to think this way: Through human trickery, murder and fraud, white Americans “own” our section of this continent. Well, maybe God gave special dispensation to the sons of Jacob to control a piece of the Middle East. The Bible says NOTHING about the Americas. It also says nothing about humans OWNING the land, only being stewards of it. But stewards are not owners.
“Viva La Raza Blanco” means “long live the white race.”
Why don’t you move back to where great-great-great grandparents lived? They sure didn’t live here. Let the Native Americans have their land, which was illegally stolen. The only law that was applied was “Might Makes Right.” Mexican immigrants are mostly Native-American blooded. Their ancestors lived in this land, yours didn’t.
If you’ve lost a job to returning Native Americans, then you weren’t educated sufficiently to do work they couldn’t qualify for. So blame your government, or yourself for being too lazy to study. If you didn’t lose a job to the returning native americans, then you’re a FOS rabble-rouser.
Which is it? Go ahead and tell your story for readers to digest.
I’ve probably done some things most of you haven’t. Like working with Mexicans picking strawberries and cutting lettuce. Being a visiting doctor at the Texas Medical Center, and being given a parking permit in the African-American “servant” zone, and riding the bus with them as the only white person. They were ALIVE on “their” bus, but became silent lackeys among whites. I lived in Fiji with black curly-haired people whom anthropologists say originally came from China, but they looked like Africans to me–and to anyone else who looked at them.
I’ve had two gypsies pound my car body after my son had an accident. Gypsies may have originated in Egypt. Went to Northern India. Then went to Europe, and some to the US.
I have expanded my horizons. Those of you who want to succeed, and for your children to succeed, need to too.
Enforcing the law ; what a novel idea.If the government enforced the laws concerning the hiring of illegals, many business owners would be in jail, or paid hefty fines. But that aint going to happen because of something called influence and money.
Consider sexual harrasement: In todays environment, the person accused is guilty until proven innocent. Even if the accused is proven innocent, their job security is now in jeopardy.
When someone knowingly hires illegals, the government may send the illegals back and slap the hand of the responsible parties, but nothing serious comes of it.
Double standards in my opinion. If the government is going to persecute someone on another persons word, they should persecute someone for flagrant violations of existing laws. In other words major finds and/or jail time.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger dismissed the idea [mass deportation of illegal immigrants] Sunday: “It would cost $500 billion. Who’s going to pay for that?” he asked.
Incumbents, who pay for it with their jobs (hopefully).
I agree flike
Had enough? NO INCUMBENTS!!!!!!!!!!
I have a new respect for Ian. Even though the words he posted are from someone else they are spot on. I have said much the same. That post said it better.
What little respect I had for heartlander is fading fast. Elitist chemist or whatever he is, his job is of course relatively secure. So he can pontificate on matters of redress of historical grievance. And for folks not so secure as him their employment? Well he says bad on them! They should either work for the same wages and conditions that a person who cannot complain for fear of deportation does or they are invited to blame themselves.Oh this does nothing to make better the work environment for the illegals. It just blames “lazy” Americans. Is his concern really compassion for illegal aliens or contempt for Americans not quite as priveledged and “high minded” as he?
We either have laws or we do not. As I posted, the above from Ian says it all with traffic laws. I would add only that trespassing and loitering satutes would be fairly meaningless if violators were not only ignored but encouraged to flaunt them.
Maybe I’ll go camp on heartlanders lawn. I might mow it for him. But he can probably find someone to do it cheaper who might fear he would turn them in for violating the nations borders; while I’m carted off to jail for trespassing.
CruX, I’m a leftie, and I agree that they’re ILlegally here. But this is nothing more than a wedge issue to divide the country. Makes me wonder just who has been stirring up the immigrants to the point that they’re “protesting,” especially in an election year.
If this isn’t a wedge issue, why are we spending time discussing the cost of sending the illegals back, instead of doing something about those who continue to come in?
Politics at its finest.
RD,
Then you must enlighten your party members. I must also deal with the big-business pro-illegal alien exloiting employer types as well. They must be “educated.”
Walker”major fines and/or jail time”plus ignorance is no excuse for not knowing they are illegal. It is very simple, those are the answers to the whole deportation problem.Once the power is cut off to the magnet, the nails to our coffin wil fall south. All we need is to have a government thats on our side.
If we jail all the employers of illegal aliens, then all those contributors to the republican party will be unable to put the incumbent politicians back in office. It’s not going to happen.
JR, I pay a white WSU student $40/hr to mow my lawn. I paid my son $20/hr. Why the difference? Because I bought the lawnmower, gas, and repair for my son to use. The WSU student purchased the equipment, plus a truck and trailer to haul, plus insurance.
Could I get a Mexican to do it cheaper? Yes. Have some made housecalls to solicit my business? Yes. Have I fired my American landscape guy to get a cheaper price? No. If his permanent lifeplan was to do landscape maintenance, I might change my mind. But this young man started his own lawnmowing neighborhood lawn mowing business when he was 12. He’s now using it to pay for his education. Am I subsidizing his dream? Do I realize I am helping to support his education costs? You betcha.
When I first started posting, people said, “Great comment”. But then I started saying things that people denounced.
Go deep down into Mexico. Get past the ugly border cities. You’ll find people who are more LIKE you than DIFFERENT. Most of the immigrants are from the Heartland of Mexico and Central America.
The vast majority of them are decent, God-fearing folks. They just want an American Dream.By the second or third generation of descendents, a large minority become REPUBLICANS.
You need to DEMAND GOOD EDUCATIONS FOR YOUR CHILDREN. Originally public education was created to “Americanize” immigrants’ children, and train most of them to be obedient, low-value laborers. The “ownership” society owned property, and funded schools, and made the laws, such as truancy laws, to serve themselves.
That’s changed. But you still have a system, the YOU PAY FOR, that denies your children a good education. For example, it’s the 21st century. Your kids need 2-hour math classes. In the morning, when their minds are most alert and capable of absorbing difficult information.
I talked with a well-known evolution proponent. He told me privately that he believes in an intelligence- designed universe. But he’s making money coauthoring an evolution-based biology textbook. He believes in both ID AND evolution, but he’s unwilling to campaign to fuse the two.Money is an extraordinarily powerful motivator.
Teachers strike and mount protests to advance their interests. Parents should strike and mount protests. Demand differential pay for math and science teachers. Or agree to pay $500 annually out of each of your own pockets to subsidize talented math and science teachers. In a state like Kansas, their starting pay, from whatever the sources, should be $40,000-50,000. If you want your kids to learn math and science. If you don’t really care, then your kids will have to pay the consequences.
Some policymakers apparently think that white Kansas kids are “stupid”, and not willing to study hard. I dispute this. I may be wrong. But the only way to find out is to give them a rigorous education, and find out what happens. Or don’t, and find out what happens.
When I was young I did some things…Teachers said, “What if EVERYONE DID THIS?”
So I just took it. But, I should have retorted, “What if EVERYONE decided to be a junior high school teacher like you. How well would society work then?” In educating kids, teachers can’t help but use sophomoric, specious arguments.
Where would Wichita be if her founders had not thumbed their noses at the laws, and run saloons and whorehouses? I’m not saying this was the best thing to do, and it certainly violated Kansas law, BUT IT WORKED. Without this law-breaking, Wichita today would not exist.
You denigrate and disempower your children by allowing the Establishment to set the rules for educating your children, while the high and mighty send THEIR OWN children to COMPLETELY DIFFERENT KINDS of schools.
Randy Scholfield, It’s very simple. Here is the serious answer you ask for.Dry up the jobs for illegal aliens by enacting high fines for anyone that employs them and then dry up all free aid.
Make it illegal for banks and other financial institution to transfer money out of the country for anyone without proof of citizenship. Heavy fines for any citizens that laundry money for illegal aliens.
They will find their own way home if they cannot afford to live here.
Yours logic is the reason that Kansas is becoming the laughing stock of the country.
What are families going to tell their children? “That some people do not have to obey the laws?” What is that teaching them?
Since Senator Sam Brownback has proven his dedication and loyalty, I believe he should run for President – of Mexico!
I was always told that we have to live to the full extent of the law. Nobody’s above the law. But I guess that applies only to American Citizens. How do we explain that to our children?
