Many critics of the state’s new concealed-carry law, including Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, have noted that it makes an exception for the state Capitol. Asked about that during an online chat last week with Lawrence Journal-World readers, state Sen. Phil Journey, R-Haysville, said he’d originally sought to allow permit holders to carry at the Statehouse but had yielded to the change to help the bill pass. And "in the 21 exclusion zones, most are in areas or buildings of the state that have public security," he explained.
During the chat, which focused on the gun law, Journey also said: "For every time a firearm is used to commit a violent crime, a firearm is used two or three times to prevent a potential violent crime. There is a good side to firearms ownership that we seldom hear in the media or in the news because tragedy is averted."

Damoon, I am going to beat you to the punch.
Phillip is living in fantasy-land. Let’s please not disturb him.
Aww, c’mon Phil is so much fun to watch when he’s in a snit!
Maybe we should ask rep. Cynthia McKinney D-Georgia how those guards work in keeping her safe at the U.S. capital before we rely on similar ones in Topeka.
Profiling anyone?
KFG,Mckinney is one scary looking woman. I saw some stuff yesterday about her hair and how it’s racist to comment on it. I’m sorry, but her hair makes her butt-ugly.
I think the guard that grabbed her was brave.
If it’d been me, I’d have ran screaming the other way.
I’m gonna leave the red meat for Damoon. Journey lobbed her a softball and I don’t wanna be in the way when she takes the swing!
One wonders about the competence of security guards in the McKinney incident.
I know if someone grabbed ME from behind I would come around swinging.
I am all for concealed carry in the House. Let’em strap it on!
Then the Dems and others of a less armed, less reactionary bent should bring up a contentious issue……..something the cons eat each other over……then clear the chamber and let the fun begin!
LOLOL JR. They should bring up immigration and watch the GOP firing squad line up in a circle!
XXX that’s funny, but if being ugly were a reason to be stopped, the house would be empty most of the day!!
I mean, have you looked at the pictures of OUR boys in Washington? Heheh.
KFG, I say we elect some cute politicians. We’ve already managed stupid and dishonest.
“U.S. Capitol Police on Monday asked a federal prosecutor to approve an arrest warrant for Rep. Cynthia McKinney after she tangled with a uniformed officer last week.”

I’m all for cute XXX, and you are right, nothing else has worked for us. Cute and poor since we also tend to elect rich folks.
but how long until they get corrupted by the pay scale and lifetime benefits not to mention the perks?
This is plain silly.
Most of those who support concealed carry support it everywhere.
It is the opposition that wanted to exclude all these places from the list and would have used it to kill the bill if it had been inlcuded.
Who do you think was pushing for a ban on concealed carry in the schools, public offices, and state property?
Now the Governor and everyone else is trying to say that it is a flaw with the program?
The Governor didn’t want it at all and now she is complaining about it not being allowed in the statehouse?
Give me a break!
Julie,”but how long until they get corrupted by the pay scale and lifetime benefits not to mention the perks?”
I don’t know. It would take me about 5 minutes.
Bwhaaaaaaa!
Nathan, I think prohibiting firearms in schools and churches is legit. Anyplace else is fine with me. The rest…well, I think the most important thing was to get the law passed. A year, maybe 2 down the road when nobody can say there’s blood running in the streets, maybe we can work on getting the restrictions lifted. As gun owners, the onus is on us. We have to prove that we’re not a bunch of blood thirsty savages just waiting to unleash havoc on the streets.
Um, I’ll include bars or anywhere where alcohol is served as places where guns shouldn’t be allowed.
Mckinniey is just an uppity affrmative action negress who is simply guilty of TNB. She walked by a security checkpoint and the guard merely tapped her on the shoulder to ask for her ID.
As for guns in government bulidings, I am in favor of it. Perhaps the cowards, crooks and traitors would be more circumspect if they knew that well armed and angry citizens were lurking about? :)
Viva La Pistola!!
Ian, I saw her on CNN tonight. What a piece of work. First it was a race issue, then a sex issue. She brought up racial profiling and then denied that she did (they replayed the tape). Her lawyer is creepy.
The lady is a whack.
“Most who support concealed carry support it everywhere”
YUP, that is why it is an extremely dangerous idea. People who NEED a gun everywhere are looking for a chance to play cowboy.
I for one will be pointing out to police or security each and every person I see carrying. Pre emption ya know.
This is not directed at XXX.
You folks got the right to carry your little phallic compensations. But be warned that many eyes will be watching.
And I DEFINITELY want OPEN carry at future Republican conventions!
The lady is an elected United States representative deserving of better respect than to be accosted by an oafish guard………who is PROBABLY a Republican……..using a minor transgression to play cowboy.
JR,You must not have seen her on CNN tonight.
The guard merely tapped her on the shoulder to ask her for ID because she bypassed a security checkpoint. That is totally reasonable. Do you expect the guard to recognize her on site?
V.L.R.B!!
Just goes to show how uninformed our reprsentatives are. I’d like to see the proof that for every violent crime committed with a gun, 3-4 violent crimes are stopped by someone with a gun. What bullshit! That jackass must be reading the same gun-lover’s magazines as Nathan to do his research. If conceal and carry laws lower the crime rate and make us all such a “polite society”, then why the heck should they be banned anywhere? You’d think responsible citizens who are concerned for everyone’s welfare packing heat would be MORE THAN WELCOME in the State Capitol, in the churches, and especially in the schools, since the schools need to be tamed down most of all.
What an ignoramus!!!!!!!
PS Nathan, do you REALLY think guns should be allowed in schools??!!!???
There she is.
Guns are always needed when shit goes down. I recommend a good ol fashioned Remington pump-action over pistol grips any day! However coming from an inner city, I’m more proficient with semi-automatic handguns.
I think McKinney is cute, and I love her hair.
Condi’s got the scary hair-helmet thing going on. In fact, if you squint, she looks a hellovalot like that Chucky doll in those horror movies.
McKinney could stand to lose a few pounds, but so could about 75 percent of the American public out there walking around.
die@conservativescum.com???????
rotflmosrfao
Viva La Raza blanco!!
Need to lose weight?
Do 10-15 minutes of Calisthenics and 30 minutes of walking, every 5-7 days.
You will burn fat and develop lean muscle. Your strength, flexibility, and agility will increase dramatically.

This site will give yall the details!
Damoon,
“Nathan, do you REALLY think guns should be allowed in schools??!!!???”
YES
Do you think those kids in Columbine would have killed or wounded even half of the people they did if some of the teachers had been carrying concealed?
How many school shootings have there been in the past 10 years that if there would have been teachers carrying concealed could have stopped more kids from being killed or wounded?
It appears as if guns are already in school Damoon, just not by the good guys.
Remember, these are the same capital cops who arrested Cindy Sheehan at the SOTU address and then let her go the next day saying it was all a mistake made by them!! They sound infallible to me… Of course they must be right on this one!
I dont suppose this has ANYTHING to do with the republicans censuring her on the house floor after she commented that the 2000 presidential election was the “coup d’etat” of the United States! They have been harrassing her ever since.
I think she is great. I think it is sad that you all make fun of her hair or her appearance. You wouldnt be doing it if she was a man.
I find her attractive, and so do the people who elect her. Expect her to be re-elected and be a pain in your asses for years to come!
And she clocked the guy with her cell phone? OMG, send in the troops! After he grabbed her? I havent seen anywhere that it was a “tap on the shoulder”.
She is ALLOWED to go around security, just like the other memebers of the house.
If it had been some fat white guy with a bad combover with nothing but a flag lapel pin on his suit, no one would have said a thing. But a black woman bypassing security? I sure would like to know how many OTHER people were grabbed as they legally bypassed security. Or even STOPPED when they did it.
Call in the troops. Heheh. Cynthia is on the loose in the capital. I sure wish we had concealed carry there!
I’m sorry, I have no desire to live in a country where the teachers have to carry firearms to protect themselves. If that what it boils down to, how can we say live in a country that cherishes freedom. If I can’t go where I want, when I want, without without fear and paranoia about what may happen to me, that’d not being free. Our country is not what it used to be, for many reasons, but I don’t think arming citzens is the answer. If I want to live like that, I’ll move to Columbia or Iraq.I want my country back.
Agreed that Damoon.
The thing that troubles me is that the very folks who are runining the country in various ways are the same folks who want so badly to be armed.
I wonder if that is so once they finally have everything their way, they can be sure they are armed and can prevent any challenge to their order.
Maybe we can issue cell phones instead of guns, since it is now an assault weapon.
Hell, maybe cell phones were the weapons of mass destruction we were looking for in iraq!
We looked right past the most dangerous weapon of all!!
I think automated calls systems are right up there with cell phones, obviously a weapon developed by terrorists to drive Americans nuts and make our heads explode, killing us from the inside out.
Jr, I think it’s pretty comical that the ones who voted in the CC law don’t want anyone that might be carrying to have acess to their work environments. Like I said before, if CC is such a harmless thing, then why the rush to ban guns from so many public places?
