Travel to New Hampshire and Iowa aside, Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., still seems to think it’s too early to say whether he’s running for president in 2008. Not so the Spalding Group’s Republican Source Web site, where you already can buy “Brownback 08” shirts, caps, mugs, buttons, bumper stickers and mouse pads. Of course, you also can buy the same merchandise for 11 other potential GOP contenders. The site urges Republican shoppers: “Pick your favorite from an illustrious field of potential candidates and demonstrate your support. This is your chance to take a stand as we strive to keep the White House!”

Brownback to get the Republican nod. What do they really want Hillery to win?
I just wish the guy had left all his religion at home. I like his stand on many issues, but he’s drowning in his own rhetoric with his religious stand.
He is going to have to tone down the rhetoric. The extremist right might have kidnapped the Republican party in Kansas, but he will find himself out of step with the rest of the country.
Or hasn’t he picked up on the fact that Kansas lately is the laughingstock of the country, with the BoE, Fox, Kline, et. al?
Hey, he’s GOD’s senator so lay off him!
And pat is bush’s senator.
Who represents kansas in the senate? Or is everyone too ashamed to actually represent the people who elected them?
He’s already killed himself by supporting amnisty. Even his endless list of corporate contributors isn’t going to help overcome this gross miscalculation.
Interesting article by Bob Novak about one of Brownback’s rivals, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
It seems the Christian Right objects to Romney’s being a Mormon. Go figure.
“If Romney is nominated and their abstention results in the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton, that’s just too bad. The evangelicals are adamant, saying there is no way Romney can win them over.”

The following is my favorite bit, one that once again shows us that many Christians are unfortunately incapable of realizing just how subjective their worldview can be:
“Nobody is suggesting that Mitt Romney as president of the United States would be taking orders from the president of the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City. The Republican whispering campaign against Mormons is broader — based on ridicule of the church’s doctrine. I have heard Republicans who have read the Book of Mormon express astonishment that any rational person could believe that.”
LOL
This would be all too characteristic of candidate Brownback’s base.
Since Senator Sam Brownback has proven his dedication and loyalty, I believe he should run for President – of Mexico!
Maybe we need to proportionalize Senatorial representation according to population. Or pass a constitutional amendment that allows any state whose citizens want to split into multiple states.
Why should North Dakota, with 700,000 people, have as many senators as Florida, with 20 times as many people? This is not a republican democracy.
Why not have the presidential election be be based upon the popular vote? Sure, Bush would have lost, but the upside is, Bush would have lost.
Trudy Rubin of the Philadelphia Inquirer, one of whose opinion piecse was published by the Eagle in 2003, said that the invasion of Iraq WASN’T about oil. That’s why Exxon commissioned a new tanker, named “Condolezza Rice”. It’s why Dick Cheney’s discussions with oil industry leaders three years has been kept PRIVATE, even though Mr. Cheney was a GOVERNMENT official, ostensibly representing ALL of the American PUBLIC.
Maybe if we the AMERICAN PUBLIC, can find the will to elect a Democratic Party president, he can issue an executive order to open up Mr. Cheney’s private meetings’ minutes. Or maybe a Democratic Congress can do this. Or, maybe, if they are all bought off, not.
I don’t have a problem with Mormons holding office. I DO have a problem with things like Mormon operatives going to the University of California, San Diego archives, and ripping out pages of the original Book of Mormon, to conceal changes that have been made in the Book to carry out a “1984″ Orwellian agenda to deceive people. It’s OAKY to say, “We’ve changed”. It’s not okay to say, “Our Founders never said this. See, we’re destrtroying the proofs that our founders said this, so our past history can’t be examined.”
That’s fanaticism.
Wow heartlander – I was not aware of that. When did it happen? Do they have copies of the documents in question for study?
I LIVED in Utah. I love Mormons. They have all kinds of rules, but THEY CHEAT. Like this one bishop put up 12-foot-high basket. I was really good at shooting–on a 10-foot rim. He changed the height to benefit himself. He KNEW that the regulation height was 10 feet. But he WANTED TO WIN.
I was assigned to work up a woman who had an “undiagonesed condition”. I noticed that she had point bruises on her arms. She was being physically abused by her husband. I got to the real truth. But I couldn’t overcome the culture of male abuse of women.
Some of you think that undocumented immigration should be made a felony. We live according to “informal rules” which are not the same as “formal rules”. what kind of formal rules do you really want? And WHY?
The Mormons had some interesting things to say about negros, race mixing and such. In 1979 the IRS demanded that they become more “tolerant and inclusive” or have their tax exempt status revoked. Whining leftists who drone on about government being controlled by religion should look into that, hypocrits!
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
Sorry, I meant to say that the bishop shot well on a 12-foot rim.
Dear Ben,
you can contact the librarian at the UCSD library.
This happened in the late ’70’s.
It’s not just the Mormons. The Pagan Roman Emperor convened the Nicean meeting. They decided, under his rule, to decice which writings should be incorporated in the New Testament.I once laid my hands on a person. She was cured.Did I cure her? I can’t say this, Not even close. I’d like to believe there was an energy flow. My wife does this a lot with patients whom statistics say are going to die..We are not going to say, “Come to us and get healed.” I think if we did this, we would LOSE it.
The filthy government ruined the Mormon Church with their threats and meddling, damn them!
David Briscoe and George Buck refer to June 9, 1978 as “Black Friday” because this was the day that Mormon leaders announced the death of the anti-black doctrine (see Utah Holiday, July 1978, page 33). Prior to that time blacks of African lineage were not allowed to hold the Priesthood nor go through the temple even though they lived exemplary lives. The Mormon position concerning blacks was clearly stated in a letter written by the First Presidency on July 17, 1947:
“From the days of the Prophet Joseph even until now, it has been the doctrine of the Church, never questioned by any of the Church leaders, that the Negroes are not entitled to the full blessings of the Gospel.” (Letter from the First Presidency, quoted in Mormonism and the Negro, by John J. Stewart and William E. Berrett, pp.46-47)
Bruce R. McConkie, who now serves as an Apostle in the Mormon Church, wrote the following in a book published in 1958:
“Negroes in this life are denied the priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty. The gospel message of salvation is not carried affirmatively to them…”Negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concerned…” (Mormon Doctrine, 1958, page 477)
In the July 1978 issue of the Salt Lake City Messenger we pointed out that in the past Mormon leaders have taught that the doctrine could not be changed. President Brigham Young, for instance, emphatically affirmed that blacks could not hold the Priesthood until AFTER the resurrection:
“Cain slew his brother… and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin.. ..How long is that race to endure the dreadful curse that is upon them? That curse will remain upon them, and they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. Until the last ones of the residue of Adam’s children are brought up to that favourable position, the children of Cain cannot receive the first ordinances of the Priesthood.” (Journal of Discourses, Vol.7, pp. 290-291)http://www.xmission.com/~country/reason/black_2.htm
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
Hi heartlander – I was not ‘questioning’ you, just expressing amazement at the brazenness. Also hoping there are copies …
Ben,
There probably are. At UCSD, they let anyobody into the archives. Not true for the Vatican archives, nor Harvard–the latter I personally know because I had to have a student ID to get into the library–which was a phenomenal treasure trove,
Speaking of libraries, and proposals to demolish the Wichita Library, I think its holdings should be transferred to WSU. WSU was once a municipal university. Paid for by Wichita citizens. I don’t think an arena is a “best idea”. I think buiding a WSU library expansion, to house Wichita library holdings, and new parking space for non-student citizens is a good idea, But then again, I’m prejudiced. I love libraries more than arenas. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve seen top-selling rock artists and NBA games in arenas, but I love libraries more. It’s just my personal choice,
Can you get Brownback toilet paper?
I’d use that.
Do the have a Brownback bobby head figure, since that’s all he and Roberts have done the past 6 yrs.
Since Repubs. have controlled the White House, they have managed to turn Iraq into a “Safe haven for terrorist” according to the latest State Dept. report. Why on earth would you want Republicans to keep control of the government?
PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE SENDING BRICKS TO THEIR CONGRESSMEN..I FOUND THIS WEB PAGE WHERE YOU CAN SEND A BRICK TO YOUR CONGRESSMEN TO LET THEM KNOW THAT: When our borders are secure, only then can we discuss other aspects of the illegal immigration issue..http://www.send-a-brick.com/brick.htm.Like they say, sometimes you have to use a brick to get their attention!!
