Full amnesty, full border control?

“A solution requires two acts of national will: the ugly act of putting up a fence and the supremely generous act of absorbing as ultimately full citizens those who broke our laws to come to America,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote about the immigration debate. “This is not a compromise meant to appease both sides without achieving anything. It is not some piece of hybrid legislation that arbitrarily divides illegals into those with five-year-old ‘roots’ in America and those without, or some such mischief-making nonsense. This is full amnesty (earned with back taxes and learning English and the like) with full border control.”

Impoverished illegal aliens flock to the US and are gleefully hired by unscrupulous employers who pay them a sub-minimum wage and nothing else.

Bush is willing to compromise with the American people, big business and these that are illegal and of illegal dissent. He is willing to put a large, solid fence along the boarder. As long as there is an easy to climb ladder on the southern side of the fence. And a large soft pillow on the Northern side for them to land on. See….. A compromise!

I love watching this issue, especially coming up to an election. How do our legislators cater to the Latino vote without pissing off the base? Looks like they’ve figured it out. Do nothing. I’d be very surprised to see anything on immigration before next year.

Representative King from New York said we need to enforce the boarders now. I agree with him. We need to stop Iranians, Chinese and other groups from infiltrating our country. We need to stop the gangs and drug smugglers. We need to stop the coyotes (those that smuggle people across the boarder) from taking advantage of the poor Mexicans.

Then after a couple years of good enforcement then we can look at increasing legal immigration and possible even a guest worker program. We must stop have boarder enforcement to protect our county. It is not possible to fix something until you have a process in place to solve it for the long term future.

We need to promote the rule of law, free market capitalism and representative government in these leftist corrupt South American countries. The people deserve better than corrupt, failed leadership.

“We need to promote the rule of law, free market capitalism and representative government in these leftist corrupt South American countries. The people deserve better than corrupt, failed leadership.”

I hear “pre-emptive strike”. Didn’t we get enough of South American involvment in the late 1800s and early 1900s?

We need to tighten up our southern border. If we can’t afford a fence, maybe we should try a minefield. Minefields are cheap and effective. It doesn’t take haveing many people blown up to get the point across.

I agree North Guy. Currently that’s not possible, considering the current Junta is too busy giving everything that’s not nailed down to their big-business buddies.

It’s illegal to hire illegal aliens. What part of “illegal” do we not understand? What good is it to have laws if they’re not enforced? For these bastids to even consider anything that approaches amnesty is a slap in the face to anybody who works for a living. We tried that in the 80s and look where it’s gotten us. How can we even talk about Homeland Security if we can’t secure our borders?

Nafta was supposed to fix socio economic misery in Mexico. All the rules that would have improved the lives of mexicans got shit canned by the corrupt Mexican government in collusion with U.S. corporations. That’s your “free market” at work for ya.

Fining employers of illegals is absolutely necessary, but hard to do especially since it isn’t even being tried.

I say we use greater weight against itself here.

Catch the illegals and care for them well; while they build the wall.

Affix a heavy tax say 35% on all money wired out of the United States to Mexico. The wire cash folks can have a piece of it to get them on board. Use the collected revenue to address the problem.

The only people who can make Mexico a place where people want to stay are the Mexicans. They cannot do it from here and we cannot do it for them. They must be turned back and sent back to fix their own country. THEN they can wave their flag with PRIDE not defiance.

The headline today was the clout mexicans have in the U.S., as demonstrated by the protest. Just wait until we give amnesty to millions more, increasing their weight at the polls. The country is so divided that a small majority well organized can swing elections, as demonstrated by the Cons. right wing. Hell maybe they can even get into power.

    steve, indeed.

The GOP orchestrated this immigrant ‘crisis’ as a way to demagogue the issue and turn out their base. But judging by the numbers of hispanic/latino protesters and the political energy this has released, I bet Ken Mehlman is banging his head against the wall at the prospect of the permanently losing those voters for the GOP.

That’s the problem with being the party of white racists, as the GOP is, when the changing demographics of the country don’t afford you the luxury of catering to white prejudice as a long-term strategy. They’ve taken the Tom Tancredo route, and it’s going to kill them, in the near and the long term.

The GOP is looking increasingly desperate as the November elections approach. But there’s always the possible nuclear strike against Iran as a way of changing the subject.

Oh, and Ruby, ‘corrupt leftist governments in South America’? Please. Given the history of the region, with brutal and corrupt U.S. puppets like D’Aubusson, Somoza, Pinochet, and Batista, and our overthrow of various governments by the CIA (notably that of Guatemala) you’re going to have to put up or shut up with respect to Chavez, Morales, Kirchner, and Vies–all of whom, by the way, were popularly elected, whether Wingnuts like it or not.

Neo-fascist capitalists hate giving the indigenous folks to the south a chance to have political say. Ruby is no exception.

Great post, CF, but you left out Noriega.

I don’t know what the Repukes were thinking by turning illegal immigration into the distraction de jure. They should have stuck with their old standbys like a flag-burning amendment to the Constitution or saying the Pledge of Alligience in school.

Repubes been making good progress with Hispanos who tend to agree with their stances on anti-abortion, anti-communism (Cuba), and pro-family-values crap.

This should make plain beyond all doubt where the Republicans really stand when it comes to non-whites.

Don’t usually disagree with ya CF.

This IS a crisis. I fail to see how any party other than the GOP gains from perpetuating it and making it worse.

They get their cheap labor. The church gets an infusion of new blood. Again this works to the strength in general of the GOP.There is no gain in this for the DNC or the left.I also think calls of “racism” are born of a desire to ignore this problem.

These people cannot vote. So they will continue to be exploited with no way to do anything about it. And they will drag the American standard of living down with them.Today they are marching in the streets to maintain their right to ilegally remain here ruining our country when they should be leading a revolution in their own.

And we are letting them.I plan to wave a sign of my own in their direction when they march in Wichita today. I don’t think I will have much company.

Amnesty by any other name I guess.

This is ridiculous, these filthy wetbacks have no rights, except to be rounded up and deported in a human manner! Low IQ non_white “latinos” have the same pathologies that blacks have and the gravitate towards the demorat nanny state sphere and they will never vote for republiscum en masse! The way to solve the problem is as follows:

    1) put troops on the border and build a damn wall across the length of the border and scan for tunnels2) punish those who hire illegals and use the “rico” laws to seize their assets and put them away for at least ten years in federal lock up3) stop giving citizenship to the offspring of non-citizens4) stop giving any benefits to illegals(education, welfare, etc.) except for extreme emergency medical care5) enforce laws that prevent illegals from voting and being counted in the census for redistricting6) set up a snitch line where we can report illegals and get a reward of $500 for every wetback that gets deported

Unless things change drastically, there is going to be a race/civil war in this country within five years that will make what happened in the former Yugoslavia look like a schoolyard braw in comparison. Of course, that is just fine by this blue eyed White Cuban American!

    You’re right, illegals can’t vote.

But first- and second-generation Hispanic Americans can vote. They are a bigger minority than blacks, and growing.

I would guess that a lot of the marchers are NOT illegals.

I have mixed feelings about the issue–we can’t accomodate all the people who want to come to the US, and immigration should match the nation’s long-term goals. On the other hand, the Democrats weren’t the ones who politicized this into huge “us-versus-them” demogaguery.

Surprising myself, I am in total agreement with JR on this one.

Just saw on NBC nightly news, according to a study by UCLA, working people in CA pay an average of $1700 a year more in taxes to cover the costs incurred by the illegals–medical care, housing, education.

According to Standford Business School wages for uneducated AMERICAN workers have fallen over 14% because the illegals will work for next to nothing.

And they have the nerve to protest the laws in this country? It is not our fault their country provides no future. They should go back to Mexico and protest there.

  27. Posted April 10, 2006 at 6:48 pm | Permalink

    Remain calm, JR.

Dems don’t want illegals to break the law.

They just don’t want vicious laws attacking the victims, like anyone who helps an illegal commits a felony . . .

It’s complicated. You can support the marchers and not want to just open the flood gates to immigration . . .

Is it rude to suggest that the plunge in union membership and the static state of worker pay vs. cost of living over that same 30 years is no coincidence? Being due to cheap willingly exploited labor? This has to be the first case in history where a nation is gonna fall because one national faction wants to exploit invaders at the expense its own people while another faction wants to “help” invaders…….at the expense of its own people.

Any politician who votes to reward these vermin needs to be dealt with as a traitor!

AP) PORTLAND, Maine — Dozens of people pressing for rights for illegal immigrants gathered for a peaceful demonstration on Monday just minutes after a counter-protestor was bloodied by a teenager in broad daylight in Monument Square.

The attacker, wearing a bandanna over his face, went after one of three people carrying signs arguing that illegals have no rights, witnesses said.

The victim, Robert Gorman of Portland, grabbed his head and dropped to the pavement in a clump after being hit with something heavy that the teen was carrying, possibly in a sock or a bandanna, said Portland Police Sgt. Robin Gauvin.

He was able to walk to an ambulance and was hauled away minutes before 200 people gathered at Monument Square. He was treated and released from Maine Medical Center.

“When you promote violence, you get violence,” said the Rev. Virginia Maria Rincon, one of the organizers. “Our rally is about promoting a peaceful dialogue.”

About 200 people gathered at Monument Square to voice support for reforms that would legalize undocumented immigrants. The rally was one of many across the country on Sunday and Monday calling for Congress to promote immigrants’ rights.

Issue engineered by GOP? Are you kidding? This thing has been going on for 20 years since the last amnesty. These protestests are organized. On March 25th in LA there were Mex., Honduran, and Salvadore flags. 700 thousand radical unappreciative people DEMANDING their rights! The hate. The disrespect. Some were burning the flag, some had signs cheering Al-Zaquiri for killing gringos. Rock throwing at cars with american flag stickers. Gangs challenging white onlookers. Calling anyone racist if they dared to voice an opposing view. Go to http://www.wehategringos.com. They have footage of the REAL deal. I saw none of this on the national news. I realize that that wasn’t the typical “illegal” working the fields as most barely have an education but they are being PLAYED by the radical socialists. Out of that 12 million illegals how many are those radicals? They must have hired a public relations firm because they sure cleaned up their act with the white shirts & American flags. By the way since the 15th is coming up, besides being illegal aliens they are also tax evaders.Income tax evasion carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Impeding the IRS carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. This new amnesty proposed by Kennedy/McCain also gives them tax amnesty. How about your or I try not to pay taxes and see what happens. 5 years in prison and fine and penalties while the Latino gets a $1000 fine and a path to citizenship!

It seems that some of these poor illegals don’t take too kindly to dportation! Der Tag is coming and coming soon!

“The saga of a young illegal immigrant found living in Apple Valley High School continues, as he is now charged in a violent home invasion – in Boston.

Francisco Serrano agreed to return to his native Mexico after a judge denied his attorney’s request to allow him to stay in the United States. Serrano was thought to have boarded a plane bound for Mexico City, but his mother told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that he had not returned. American Airlines confirmed Serrano’s ticket had not been used.

A Boston woman said Serrano kicked in her apartment door and threatened to attack her early in the morning on March 29.

“He said, ‘I’m not here to steal, I’m here to kill,’” the woman said, requesting anonymity.

Her roommate grabbed a sauce pan and hit Serrano over the head.

“He just hit the guy, and you can see the handle is bent,” the woman said.

The man then chased Serrano down the stairs and into the street.

Boston police say they found Serrano wearing a ski mask, armed with a butcher’s knife and a pocket knife.”http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S15477.html?cat=1

Funny open letter making the email rounds…I have to agree with most of it..especially the part about poor driving/no insurance…

    Dear President Bush:

I’m about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I wouldlike to ask you to assist me. I’m going to walk across the border from the U.S.into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help withthis.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotasand laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President ViCente Fox, that I’m on myway? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

    1. Free medical care for my entire family.

    2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

    3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

    4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

    5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

    6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag poleat their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

    7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

    8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access togovernment services.

    9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won’t make any effort tolearn local traffic laws.

    10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres.Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

    11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car,and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints ornegative comments from the locals.

    12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don’tenforce any labor laws or tax laws.

    13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and neversay a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on theeconomy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for allthe people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won’tmind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting withyour V.P.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

    Sincerely,

Rome fell because it made too many mistakes. Most likely the United States will split apart.
