Shocker pride is still alive

The Wichita State University men’s basketball team may have ended its magical season with Friday’s hard fall to George Mason University in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. But the pride that coach Mark Turgeon and his boys reignited in the community and state is real and lasting, sure to keep hopes high and black and gold in style until it’s time to start rocking the Roundhouse again in November. Thanks, guys. Seeing WSU and Wichita get such positive attention in the nation and even the state was a sweet victory itself. Congratulations to all those on campus and off who helped bring Wichita and Kansas such a thrilling season.

They did very well for an inexperienced team! George Mason was just hungrier and those 3, 3 point shots shook our kids at the beginning.Next year…sky’s the limit…as long as Tergeon stays with us!

I really appreciate what the team has done for the city. We haven’t had a lot to cheer about lately. We are struggling to define ourselves. We argue over everything. We have a negative self-worth that has seemed impossible to shake.

Finally something is bringing us all together. We have a reason to cheer, a reason to celebrate, and a reason to be proud. Thanks Shockers, and we are all looking forward to another great season next year. With Turgeon and four returning starters, anything is possible.
