EAGLE editorial board, et al: I would like to see subjects such as the following discussed more often:
1) How to narrow the learning gap in our schools, particularly in USD 259 schools.
2) What about school busing?
3) What can be done to get effective treatment for homeless and mentally ill to change their life styles?
4) Should use of cell phones while driving be against the law? I vote yes.
5) Now that the Wichita EAGLE has new owners, should its name be changed back to the Wichita BEACON? And its editorial policy switch to conservative from liberal viewpoint? And its offices moved to Park City?
The Eagle editorial policy is liberal? News to me.
And so another week of open blog.
Any post is good. But it is also interesting to know about the personalities of some our bloggers, favorite books and that sort of thing. It is also nice to hear from folks who don’t post often or who just come here to readA very succesful first face to face meet up forum took place this last Thursday night. The food was good and a good time was had by all. A future meet up is in the works, and there are some hints that folks from the Eagle may participate as well.I wasn’t able to sample all the food, but Ksfaarmgrrls potato salad is fantastic!
With that in mind, in addition to whatever else you care to post, it would be intersting to hear from folks about what they would like to see in a future meet up. What would make it easy for folks want and be able to attend and that sort of thing.
Perhaps meet at the clock tower in front of Hatman Jack’s store. Or in front of L-D stadium before a game in case some don’t want to attend.
Would love to come attend, but has recently moved for a new job in the land of Nokia, also to be closer to my wife’s family. The pay’s not too bad, but the benefits are to live for! Currently, we’re in the middle of a heatwave, the mercury’s topping 40.
I want to know when they are going to turn back on the street lights on East Kellogg.
Your capitalist thug-in-chief and your hired mercenary army deserve to be destroyed. I am not a religious man by any means, but if I were one I would be praying for the nuclear destruction of America!
Ahh! Hegel! A good leftist. Not to worry. You have good company here. Plenty of you guys on this blog.
Good Luck! ;)
Shut it, serf! You and your Evil Empire can go to that hypothetical hell that exists in your opiate little mind.
ProudLib is that you? Had a little to much green beer?
No, I am your god. Now be a good little Christian capitalist and keep the haves rich and the have-nots poor while forcing their children to make your Nike sneakers in China. You do everything your god commands don’t you?
Joe,the question should have been, “Had a little toO much green beer?”
Happy St Pats Day to you.
Yeah well Joe you know me and I aint gonna claim this guy.
Hegel?
It is called open thread not open rant.
You are on almost all the threads now “hegel”, and on every one you post just as you did here.
This is a discussion forum “hegel” I am sorry but so far all of your posts do not invite discussion. They are more the province of a spray can and a brick wall.
So much for free speech.
Speak freely Hegel. I’ll listen.
DD
It’s St. Patrick’s Day.
You forgot the correct punctuation after St(.)<—– also! Or should I say, too?
*roll eyes*
You’re annoying.
Ok, I’ll admit it: Hegel is really me, after too many green beers :)
Shut it, serfs! BWAHAHAHAHA!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!
1. Move the desks closer together.2. Yes, a bus is a good way to get to school.3. (and this is not in jest), Have a place they can EAT, SLEEP, and realize that someone cares about them. As the saying goes, “a man doesn’t care how much a person knows until they know how much a person cares”.4. No. But I do support a law requiring a hands free unit.5. No. I like the Eagle just the way it is..I think it is pretty well balanced, except Mallard Fillmore, Doonesbury, and Garfield is getting pretty lame.
Damn! ‘Hegel’ is Tara.
I was SO looking forward to discussing the dialectic of Anerkennung (recognition) as it transpires in Chapter IV of the “Phenomenology of Spirit,” and to ask whether the ‘Hegel’ posting here identifies as the master or the slave. Sadly, I have been deprived of this question. For the record, one should always choose to be the slave: by creating himself through work and life, he winds up mastering the master.
So, Tara (or anyone), a question: is Hegel a) the progenitor of Marx and the modern, anti-bourgeois left, or b) the arch-reactionary defender of the Prussian state? Most of us here, except the TOTAL anarchists, are Hegel’s offspring in one way or another.
(FYI: I wrote a Hegel dissertation and NEVER get to talk about him nowadays. I even visited his grave in Berlin.)
“And its editorial policy switch to conservative from liberal viewpoint?”
I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. remember the uproar about PBS giving only the conservative view point ? when I heard that I was floor, at the time I had just watched a documentary on the lead up to the invasion of Iraq. And how the information was cherry picked to support the Bush administration’s version of the Intel from Iraq. That was before the 2004 election, I guess everyone else was watching Survivor.
I read P.O.V.s that reflex both side from the editorial board, some I agree with and some I do not.Ronda sometimes seems too conservative for me, but then I read something from her that make me think maybe she is getting it. Randy for the most part seems at the other end except he points out a lot of the same issues I do. Some times the truth is so strong it can stand up no matter what.
Another photo op?From the tv news I didnt’ get the impression there were no shots fired in Operation Swarmer. I’m surprised Time even has come out with it. Here’s an excerpt…”But contrary to what many many television networks erroneously reported, the operation was by no means the largest use of airpower since the start of the war. (”Air Assault” is a military term that refers specifically to transporting troops into an area.) In fact, there were no airstrikes and no leading insurgents were nabbed in an operation that some skeptical military analysts described as little more than a photo op. What’s more, there were no shots fired at all and the units had met no resistance, said the U.S. and Iraqi commanders.”
When will people start waking up that they are being played for fools?
http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1174448,00.html
The Eagle opinion line editors are all liberal at heart with an occasional conservative bone thrown in for effect. No one should be fooled.
I haven’t seen any comments on Randy Scholfield’s article yesterday. “Etiquette advice for the pistol packers” was one of the funniest things that I have read in a while. Kudos Randy.
I’ll second that, Randy!
FAIR went back three years and looked at the pronouncements of our “liberal media” at how the war was going–
Here are a few choice ones.
More at this link, http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2842
“The only people who think this wasn’t a victory are Upper Westside liberals, and a few people here in Washington.”(Charles Krauthammer, Inside Washington, WUSA-TV, 4/19/03)
“The war was the hard part. The hard part was putting together a coalition, getting 300,000 troops over there and all their equipment and winning. And it gets easier. I mean, setting up a democracy is hard, but it is not as hard as winning a war.”(Fox News Channel’s Fred Barnes, 4/10/03)
“He looked like an alternatively commander in chief, rock star, movie star, and one of the guys.”(CNN’s Lou Dobbs, on Bush’s ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech, 5/1/03)
“It is amazing how thorough the victory in Iraq really was in the broadest context….. And the silence, I think, is that it’s clear that nobody can do anything about it. There isn’t anybody who can stop him. The Democrats can’t oppose–cannot oppose him politically.”(Washington Post reporter Jeff Birnbaum– Fox News Channel, 5/2/03)
“Now that the war in Iraq is all but over, should the people in Hollywood who opposed the president admit they were wrong?”(Fox News Channel’s Alan Colmes, 4/25/03)
“Over the next couple of weeks when we find the chemical weapons this guy was amassing, the fact that this war was attacked by the left and so the right was so vindicated, I think, really means that the left is going to have to hang its head for three or four more years.”(Fox News Channel’s Dick Morris, 4/9/03)
“I will bet you the best dinner in the gaslight district of San Diego that military action will not last more than a week. Are you willing to take that wager?”(Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly, 1/29/03)
“Speaking to the U.N. Security Council last week, Secretary of State Colin Powell made so strong a case that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is in material breach of U.N. resolutions that only the duped, the dumb and the desperate could ignore it.”(Cal Thomas, syndicated column, 2/12/03)
Yeah I read Randy’s pistol etiquette piece this morning (no time yesterday), really funny.
Luckovich’s cartoon in today’s paper was a classic.
“In fact, there were no airstrikes and no leading insurgents were nabbed in an operation that some skeptical military analysts described as little more than a photo op”
Did anyone else see the scene in “Beast master” where James Amos shouts “FIGHT YOUR WAY TO THE TOP!” then the camera pans to show the people crawling up the stairs to the top but there is no one to fight?I laughed half the night.
CF, we missed you at the get together, but I hope you had some fun in Austin.
“For the record, one should always choose to be the slave: by creating himself through work and life, he winds up mastering the master”
Hehe, that’s what my girlfriend tells me too….
BLOG REMINDER:
After a very successful first get together, another is in the planning stages.
JOE WILLIAMS IS INVITED!and so is everyone else.
Thoughts as to the how, when and where for the next get together can be posted here.
Comrade CF,
Work is a universal reality. Every person must work. The demise of Mother Russia was the handiwork of the Evil Empire, it was not the fault of the communism system. Rather, it was the fault of our enemies isolating the the Marxist ideal from spreading to the West. Do not worry, the riots in Paris is only the beginning of the workers revolution, and a violent revolution is always inevitable because the fat-cats will do everything in their power to secure their wealth. Is it stealing? No, that wealth belongs to the people, because it was their sweat and blood that generates wealth, therefore wealth always belongs to the workers.
Just an idea:How about meet at my station about 4 some Tuesday…and televise the last hour from 7-8?Since we also broadcast on the internet, everyone who can’t make it…no matter where they are in the world…could join in by phone.I think it’d be a hoot. I’d love to have you all join me on the air.
I love these ywo from above:
“Over the next couple of weeks when we find the chemical weapons this guy was amassing, the fact that this war was attacked by the left and so the right was so vindicated, I think, really means that the left is going to have to hang its head for three or four more years.”(Fox News Channel’s Dick Morris, 4/9/03)Well Dick, where are all those chemical weapons?
“I will bet you the best dinner in the gaslight district of San Diego that military action will not last more than a week. Are you willing to take that wager?”(Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly, 1/29/03)Billy-boy – I’ll have a nice seafood dinner and a good bottle of wine.
The chemical weapons are what his wife fixes for dinner.
Congratulations to the WSU Shockers!!!
Our story so far:WSU: 2-0KU: 0-1
Up next for WSU: NC and former KU coach Roy Williams???
WuShock GoShox!!!!
:)
My ultimate dream: WSU vs UCLA in the final. Me at Players cheering for my BRUINS!!!!!!!
flike,I wouldn’t get too excited about KU’s problems. If Self pulls this stunt on more time, he’s finished at KU.And then Turgeon’s phone will ring. His alma mater will be calling him to come home. And he will go.
I don’t think Turgeon’s Caller ID, vis a vis 913 numbers (plus), will suffer this year.
WSU will be luck to hold onto him, period. Miller, Ogirri, oh yeah, but great coaching is what I’ve seen most of.
Didja see that defense?? UT musta decided it could only score from what, 30+ feet out today.
Turgeon, God of Kansas Basketball, all bow!
:)
Bwahahahah! mrcontroversy, I used to date the (former) sports reporter at KCTU. Small world.
It’s amazing how March Madness can bring Wichita people together like it does. Beautiful.
Talk of Self being even remotely in trouble is ridiculous. He had a great year, taking a very young team a lot farther than expected. He was Big 12 Coach of the Year.
I’m rooting for a matchup with Roy Williams. Go Shocks!!!!!
Ain’t it a beeyatch . . . Phil, I never met oral sex I didn’t like, Kline, was fined for campaign violations. Amazing!http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/14118095.htm

Consequences of a War Stateby Charley ReeseWar consists of killing people and destroying property. That’s all there is to war. Any honest soldier will tell you the same thing: His job is to kill people and destroy property. That’s true of all branches of the service.
The difficult question is, When is a nation justified in making the decision to kill other people and destroy their property? I think the rule is the same as it is for individuals. You are justified in killing only in defense of your own life or the lives of others for whom you are responsible.
By that definition, the U.S. has fought only one justified war in this and the past century. That was World War II. Putting aside the fact that the U.S. government provoked Japan into attacking, attack it did, and the U.S. had a right to respond. We were not attacked, however, in Korea, Vietnam, Libya, Lebanon, Panama, Grenada, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan or Iraq.
In Korea and Vietnam, we intervened in a civil war as two sides of a divided country fought for supremacy. We bombed Libya in a reprisal raid for a terrorist attack in Germany. Reprisals, in World War II, were considered war crimes. We weren’t attacked by Lebanon. In Panama, we attacked to change the government. I don’t really know why we attacked Grenada. The pretense was that it was building an airport that could handle Soviet airplanes. I suspect it was really a political ploy designed for domestic consumption.
I don’t know why we decided to bomb Yugoslavia. That, again, was a civil war that should not have concerned us. The now-late Slobodan Milosevic was only trying to do what Abraham Lincoln did – prevent the secession of states from Yugoslavia.
Our problem in Afghanistan was not the Taliban government. It was al-Qaeda. We overthrew the Taliban government but failed to destroy al-Qaeda. Only God and George Bush know why we attacked Iraq. That was clearly a war of aggression, no different from the German invasion of Poland in the 1930s.
It’s ironic that the president likes to claim to be promoting peace, when we are the most warlike nation on Earth and the one with the largest war-department budget. We are also the biggest arms peddler in the world. It seems there is no country on Earth that’s immune to U.S. officials telling it how to run its internal affairs.
The problem is that war, except in self-defense, is a total waste. Human lives are wasted. Accumulated wealth is wasted. The results of war are debt, taxation, human sorrow and human bitterness. The billions of dollars we spend killing other people and destroying their property are billions that can’t be spent on improving education, America’s infrastructure, the health of our people and preserving our land, water and air.
Wars also destroy truth and trust with their secrecy and propaganda. Instead of patriotism, which is a love of the land and the people, the war state substitutes jingoism, which is a love of the government and support of war. In America today, both liberals and neoconservatives have been corrupted by the imperialist war state. The liberals are too cowardly to oppose unjustified wars, and the neoconservatives instigate and applaud them.
It is a triumph of imperial war-state propaganda that people are afraid they will be called unpatriotic if they oppose their government’s foreign wars and their domestic consequences.
Well, a continuation of the present policy will eventually destroy America. We are already $8 trillion in debt. Most of the world views us as a rogue nation. Our manufacturing base is being depleted, not to mention our natural resources. Our education system is sick. Our culture is decadent. Our government is corrupt.
It’s no longer a question of supporting or not supporting any particular administration. It’s a question of survival. Those who value liberty and the rule of law and believe that foreign policy should be based on the Golden Rule had better assert themselves now.

The site has some interesting video. Just put the normal web material before the location since this site considers the material before the website as obscene.
Please watch this…. it’s free and will amaze you. Please….>>>http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6545313046180631815
Wow. No doubt its true though most Americans are too in love withUncle Sam to face such harsh realities.
Restore the republic,
I heard a good time was had by all at your Blognick. Good to hear you all got along.
I don’t agree with a small portion of the following but I thought it would be interesting to some of you.
DARRELL SCOTT TESTIMONYGuess our national leaders didn’t expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain Their blood cries out for answers.
“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.”In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent.I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. ” I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:
Your laws ignore our deepest needs,Your words are empty air. You’ve stripped away our heritage,You’ve outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms,And precious children die.You seek for answers everywhere,And ask the question “Why?”You regulate restrictive laws,Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand,That God is what we need!
“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs — politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictiv e laws. “Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.”As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes-He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999 , at Columbine High Sc hool prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA – I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”
Upthread a bit mrcontroversy has an interesting idea on a future meet up. Thoughts as to this would be interesting. Are WE(bloggers) ready for prime time?
Okay, tellitasitis, I watched the video. The premise for it is as bogus as it gets. What these morons are trying to make us believe is the laws of physics quit working that day. Hmmm. . . .
In the first place, the heat generated by the fuel from the planes was extreme. This heat weakened the structural beams supporting the building. They eventually collapsed. When they did, tons on building material let loose at the same time, hence the “explosive” sounds heard.
Second, there would be a tremendous pressure wave generated downward at the time of the collapse. That is what the “witnesses” saw when they described the sudden outrush of dust and debris just prior to (actually at the same time, if you look closely at the film) the collapse. The collapse of the upper floors, along with the weakening of the structurasl support of the building caused by the planes crashing into it, created a domino effect. That is what brought down the buildings, not some over the top nonsense about a government conspiracy designed to get us into a war.
Conspiracy nuts are a dime a dozen. The laws of physics proves that point.
The ridiculous milk policy explained, sort of: http://www.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=233573
Hi All,
I am glad to hear that the meet up went well. i am sure that everyone was broken up over my absence!lolI was really looking forward to meeting you folks, and DD, XXX, and my favorite lesbian organic farmer in particular.
I was reading over some of this past week’s posts and I have to ask; did CruX really level a death thre against Ed??????? Oy Vay!!
Viva La Raza Blanco!!
Indeed, Ian, we missed you at the “gathering”. You missed a great picnic.CruX did threaten Ed. Considering his preceeding posts, I figure he was pretty drunk or something… I think he must have really embarrassed himself. We haven’t heard from him since. What a tirade!
So Ian, is our southern border safer now?
I’m looking forward to reading a new book that’s coming out this Tuesday, “American Theocracy,” by Kevin Phillips.
If you don’t know, Phillips is an old Republican analyst who worked in the Nixon administration but who has now, like many Republicans (especially Kansas Republicans), found the modern GOP to have left him behind. Back in the 1960s Phillips predicted that the diaspora of Americans relocating to Sun Belt states would result in a resurgent Republican Party; he was correct.
If it’s like his previous works, then it will be extensively researched, well-written, and an interesting read. Phillips is a very interesting thinker, imo.
Woops:

Well no I wasn’t embarassed. Unlike you cowards I express my opinions openly. So you can suck it.
That incident was on the Iraq Civil War thread. It has been removed but the comments to it are still there.
And for the record, I didn’t really mean that I was gonna kill Ed, only that I wanted to at that point in time.
We’re a forgiving lot here Cruex……er Crux. (Sorry I couldn’t resist). Heck you even gave me one HECK of an ice breaker for the meet up the other day!We were sorry you couldn’t come………I think.Ya dug yourself a hole. It’s up to you whether ya dig it deeper.
CruX, you’ve blown your credibility. You’re a nutcase as you’ve so aptly shown.
Suk it yourself.
I concur X. My little offer above was before Cru hit every thread with a flame rant and engaged in a ranting conflict with at least what I perceive as his own alter ego on of all things a thread concerning mental health!
tellitasitis, here’s another link for you with more scientiic data.
http://www.freedomisforeverybody.org/911Eyewitness.php
JR, he seems to be kind of a hit-and-run type. I thought I might draw him out, but I guess I haven’t jabbed my finger deep enough in his eye yet.
He’s a Tweety-gator. All mouth and no a$$ to back it up with.
RD and tellitasitis,Do you guys run around with tinfoil on your heads? Do you watch out for the black helicopters? Little green men carry you off and do strange experiments on your bodies? Do voices in your head tell you to repeat moronic visions? Did your parents drop you on your heads when you were kids? Seen Elvis lately? Got proof positive Kennedy was killed by CIA backed Eskimos?
THat’s about how much credence I give the wingnut videos and talking heads that suggest the government planted explosives in the twin towers, stole jets and flew them into the towers, and in fact, made the whole thing happen. Sheesh . . . the tooth fairy will visit you both tonight. Make sure you wear your mickey mouse jammies.
Awww, the Lefties are mad at me, oh no!
I can’t speak for X or anybody else but I aint mad at ya Cru x. I’m enough of a liberal that I actually feel somewhat sorry for you.
But you are enough of a blogfart that I cannot resist the urge to help you make a complete ass of yourself if it gives other posters a chuckle at your expense.
Blogfart, nobody is mad at you. In fact, I have to resist laughing every time you come off with one of your immature rants. You just don’t have the experience or intelligence to rise to the point where you really piss anybody off.
Please try not to spit on the monitor when you go into one of your rants.
(Adjusting my tinfoil hat…)
Geez, JM, chill out! I picked up the link in a chat room a few days ago and happened to post the link here. I wouldn’t have thought about it if tellit hadn’t brought it up. It’s not like I spend my days and nights hunting for more 9/11 theories. Did I say it was verifiable proof of anything? Did I even say I believed it? Did I urge everyone to watch it? Uh, no.
First Damoon jumps me about sexual predators, now I’m a conspiracy theorist?
You guys need some time off. Or I do.
Ha! You are not mad at me? What a crock of shit! You guys are just mad because you can not tolerate a different viewpoint from yours. I try my best to stay on topic and even be civil with ya and what do I get? Character attacks and insults! Oh yeah, you’re not mad at me!
CrudeX,”I try my best to stay on topic and even be civil with ya and what do I get?”
Let’s see, there was the upthread remark that started, “Ok you fu*king Morons”.
Yeah, that’s real civil.
Nope, people like you don’t rise to the level of making me angry. I’m a mechanical type and I just enjoy taking someone like you apart, a little at a time, just to see what makes you tick.
“You guys are just mad because you can not tolerate a different viewpoint from yours.”
Please don’t trip over your pouty lip. You sound like a 12 year-old who isn’t getting his way.
Tolerance of your viewpoint has nothing to do with it. It’s all about your delivery.
CruX, you’re a very unstable person.
When are you going to threaten me?
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick…
Damn X I figure he is “gunning” for me. He did provide me much comedic material at the meet up!
JR, I figure him to be the long-distance type. Not brave enough to come at you face to face. I wonder how long it’ll take him to lose it if we both have our finger in his eye?
At the rate he’s going, he’ll provide us with comedy material for a long time.
You know, I almost believe he takes himself seriously!
Snork!
Giggle!
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Sorry…couldn’t help it.
Yeah? Wait til Famgirrl gets a shot at him.
Sigh…..and I have wasted so much time today on the small and insignificant.
Let’s have more ideas tomorrow about a future meet up. Mr. Controversy had an intersting idea upthread. Scroll up and check it out.
And I am as ever interested in our readers and infrequent posters. I’ll be back in a bit to close out with a blog fact…..gotta do my research ya know.
BLOG HISTORY
Archives show that the very first ever poster to this particular blog was one Mark P. Schooley M.D. The issue was medical marijuana. The Dr.was the only poster to that issue. I wonder what happened to him.
How far we have come.
And so it goes……
Death row inmate: “You’re executing me now for just that one moment I killed that guy. I’m not killing anybody this minute, so let me go.
RD,How correct you are. My bad, bro. It’s just these conspiracy nuts use no common sense, and little thought. Why feed rm?
Basically my thought, Ed, but I couldn’t come up with a good analogy. How comforting that’s he’s only occasionally homicidal.
“I’m looking forward to reading a new book that’s coming out this Tuesday, ‘American Theocracy,’ by Kevin Phillips.”
This does look like an interesting book. The author was a Nixon Republican strategiest. He now is expressing concern and outrage that sounds more like ProudLib than Tricky Dick.
Here’s a NY Times review:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/19/books/review/19brink.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
So many good books to check out.
I am interested in that book DD. I also need to check out “Infamouse scribblers” about how our oh so saintly founding fathers savaged each other in the press of the day.
JR, you and XXX are doing just fine without me. I never thought of myself as the cheerleading type, hehe, but “go boys go”.
NYTimes had a great article late last week about how Tony Ridder caved in to stockholders. Then he had the audicity to whine that he didn’t know McClatchy was going to sell a bunch of papers to pay for the purchase. Probably better off; he was a businessman, not a journalist. Everything started downhill the day he took over the top job.
RD, I didn’t mean to come across so mean, but whenever I hear even a hint of excuse regarding an adult having sex with a minor, I start frothing at the mouth. No insult intended towards you, you’re a stand-up kind of guy.
I agree damoon. The NAMBLA/sheep marriage argument is insane. The last refuge of stunted intellects and koolaide drinkers.
Except she’s not a guy.
Okay, Lt. Colombo is now leaving the room for real. . .
It was fun to meet mrcontroversy. JR, I forgot about the “not ready for prime time” thing.
I have a vision of us all sitting in back lit shadows and speaking with distortion mikes. Just to protect the innocent you understand.
I have a vision of thugs, democrat and republican, union and capitalist, religious and athiest all waiting for all of us outside the studios.
I have a vision of all of us being greeted with flowers as liberators. No, wait, that is rummy’s and cheney’s dream.
I have a vision of joe, terry, fred, bonbon and governor leadership waiting for ME outside. Oh, wait, that one is a nightmare not a vision…
lt columbo, we need you there to identify and protect the innocent, however few and far between they may be. Bwahahahah.
LOL Thanks, Rage.
Damoon, no offense taken. Really. I understand how you feel and feel the same. I do, however, agree with JR as he stated on the other thread. There are different degrees and should be treated as such.
JM, I’m sorry, too. I was just feeling grumbly. I wouldn’t consider myself deep into the conspiracy stuff, but I do believe there are a lot of unanswered questions about the day that changed our lives. Things happened that don’t make sense to me. Part of the reason I view some of the films is because I wasn’t able to watch the news or even listen to it at the time it happened. It hasn’t been that long since I actually saw footage of the planes hit.
Yeah I kinda had the same visions KFG. I just wanted to call attention to it to see what other people thought.
I like the idea of having a wide audience for the next get together. I hope that my presence will be welcomed. I want to see if Damoon can be as idignant in person as she is on line. I also want to meet Ben Huie so he can tell me to take my taut, athletic, White-Cuban buns of titanium back to Spain!! rotflmosrfao

“Wars are the Jews harvests. With them we kill off Christians and gain control of their gold. We already killed a hundred million of them, and the end is not yet. Budget slashing depends on a few key Republicans: get out your clicker fingerWrite today!by MoveOn
http://www.opednews.com
Dear MoveOn member,
Last month, President Bush announced his proposal for the next federal budget. It’s another “reverse Robin Hood,” disaster that robs from the poor, gives to the rich and explodes the deficit. Bush is even trying to sneak through his old proposal to privatize social security and cut benefits!
Right now, the House of Representatives is drafting its own budget and deciding whether to accept the President’s proposal. The final decision will come down to just a handful of swing Republicans. So today, we’re trying a new technique—we’re going straight to the voters in these key districts to ask them, person to person, to call their representative and oppose Bush’s budget.
We’ve set up a simple online system where you can write a personal letter to an independent or Democratic voter, tell them why this budget is important, and even include their representative’s phone number. If you take a minute to write your letter online, we’ll print it and mail it for you right away. Just click below to get started:
http://political.moveon.org/letters/?id=7067-4854481-114v98puwmctlwjuigdzdq&t=2
You don’t have to be any kind of expert to write one of these letters—we’re all just citizens reaching out to other folks to show them what’s at stake, and how they can make a difference.
We call it a “reverse Robin Hood” budget because it takes Bush’s habit of robbing from the poor and middle class to pay back his wealthy supporters to new heights. Here’s some of the highlights of how Bush’s plan would effect us all:1
* Social Security: Bush is trying to use the budget to sneak through his old $700 billion dollar plan to privatize Social Security2 and immediately slash benefits by $6.3 billion dollars.3* Health Care: Bush would slash Medicaid by $13.7 billion over 5 years, abandoning millions of young, elderly, poor and disabled Americans who depend on Medicaid as their health care option of last resort.* Education: Bush is pushing for the largest cut in the history of the Department of Education, and to completely eliminate the Perkins loan, a vital program for college students in need.4* Child care: Bush wants to kick 400,000 children out of child care programs for low income working families.* Budget busting tax breaks for the rich: Bush’s budget would only continue to explode the deficit by giving away over $900 billion dollars to richest 1% of the population over 10 years.* Deeper debt: Bush wants to give so much away to millionaires that even after his service cuts the annual deficit would grow by almost $200 billion dollars
Opposing this budget is also a key to victory in 2006. The reverse Robin Hood approach is deeply unpopular once it’s understood. By reaching out directly to voters in swing districts, we’re helping to hold these vulnerable Republican representatives accountable in November. We can win this budget fight, but to make the positive changes we really believe in we first need new leadership in Washington—this will help us get there.
Decisions about the federal budget effect all of us more than perhaps anything else Congress does—we’re literally all in this one together. So let’s take this chance to reach out to our fellow voters in key Congressional districts and do what MoveOn members have always done best—inspire others to speak out and make our Democracy better.
If you write your letter online today, we’ll print it and mail it right away. It just takes a minute, at:

Thanks tell
I’ll look into that.
I don’t think anyone welcomed you to the forum. If not let me be the first. In any case, welcome.
A bit of advice? Try to shorten your posts a little. You don’t need to post an article and then the link to it. Also, break one post into 2 or 3. The same long post spread over more time gets you heard better. Kansasfarmgrrl has this down to an art!
Glad to have ya Tell and keep posting.
BLOG TERMINOLOGY:
It seems I have started something with the term “blogfart” as it was defined by me in reference to a troublesome poster. It has since taken on some general usage so I thought I better define it here.
Blogfart: noun 1. a sudden, unexpected post of a foul, vitriolic, or disruptive nature followed by no explanation, qualification or apology. 2. a poster who engages in posts of such nature for the purpose of gaining attention. see also troll.3. A silly or irrelevant poster or post.
Think the capitalization should be maintained? Or does it matter?
Blogfart: verb: The act of posting a blogfart. (to blogfart, blogfarted, blogfarting).
BLOG TERMINOLOGY:
Capitalization of the “b” in blogfart is determined by use of the term. One poster to these blogs (aint seen him lately) has earned the title
Blogfart I or.. Blogfart the 1st. In this case, the b should be capitalized.
All other cases use discretion. A blogfarter of a particularly offensive nature could be referred to as “with a capital B!”
Thank you Rage for your contribution of the active case of the term. blogfarted, blogfarting etc, are appropriate.
BLOG TERMINOLOGY:
Schizoblogger: noun, A poster who frequently changes nickname; usually for purposes of no good.contraction schizo
JR -Need your help here darlin’
What to you call a person who reads this blog, doesn’t appear to post anything and then sends perverted vulgar emails to the personal email accounts of those who do post?
A pervert?
(Hi Julie! Jus’ happened to be here. . .)
You know, my e-mail is also real and live, but it’s also a throwaway 2nd account. I don’t check it much.
Hmmm. . maybe I should. Will I be able to distinguish this person from porno-spam?
Julie,
I have aslo received death threats against me and my wife and kinder from some rutting coward who obviously just lurks and doesn’t post. This only happened in the past couple of days.
V.L.R.B!!
Only 1 non-bulk for me: a spam, but a dull one from some people I actually had some business with (go figure!).
I hope this person isn’t threatening you, or anything like that.
Rage, looks like you made it in time for the beer tonight :)
I was told”fuck you cocksucker”and”Rom said you like it up the ass…is that true”(Pardon the vulgarity/profanity – direct quotes.)
I take it was a reader non poster because the only Rom I’ve ever heard of has been a blog poster here and it’s not a common name and I’ve never heard of the name of the email account holder (Bill Blyth).
Most porno-spam is more along the lines of looking for a good time big boy or hot horny singles in your area – hook up tonight!!
Hmmm. . .that’s a ugly coincidence. Although you’re probably aware your views are. . .well, a little controversial, Ian! ;-)
(Return of Blogfart I?? — But then I didn’t get squat, and I really pissed him off. . .to the extent you could tell, anyway).
Someone with longer lineage here is gonna to have to solve this one. I’ve never heard of Rom.
Rom has posted this month but it’s been a while
You remember what thread?
There have been a bunch of trolls here lately. There has also been the new phenomenon of one post wonders responding to older posts and then vanishing into cyberspace, very curious indeed.
My veiews may be controversial but I stand by them, I post using my real, full name and my email addy is live.
V.L.R.B!!
no Rage, I don’t offhand, let me do some looking and I’ll report
Ian – while I don’t always agree with you I do admire the way that you stand up for your beliefs (right, wrong or indifferent) and are consistant.
Ian, you’ve taken a lot of ridicule and abuse and responded with good humor. That means something to me, anyway.
And what she said.
Details please, if you don’t mind.
Rom Lewis last posted (as far as I can tell) on the Heartlessness in the Heartland topic on 3/17.
Julie, sorry for your trouble. I dont know if this matters but before Clinton was adopted by his step dad, his name was William Blythe.
I’m not into the whole government is out to get me thing so I don’t think that it was the former prez. I’m not his type (no blue dresses). But thank you KFG for your sentiments.
hi all.. i thought maybe I would ask if I have been to hard in standing up for my beliefs and standards. I think I really really upset KFG and though i was indeed baiting her as she was me. i think it went a little to far.. any thoughts
Pass, rockl. My gut tells me this has nothing to do with either of you.
Rage ?????
Rock,You gotta stand up for what you believe – if you don’t they eat you for dinner. Just try not to be too antagonistic. And if you’re proven wrong – admit it. We usually try to play nice with others.
(KFG makes good tater salad (from what I hear) and at the next picnic you may not be allowed to have any – if you continue to piss her off.)
Or were you just asking generally?(she’s right here, you know).
LOl julie, I didnt mean that. I just meant it was obviously a cover name.
She wants you to say “poor pitiful rockl”.
Answer the questions rockl. Do some research rockl.
yeah silly me i didn’t see her there until after i sent the post!! lol
I have been here since the blog was opened. Rom is a recent poster. (last month or so) He was either a good actor or a newbie.
I got nasty mail early on. Not so much anymore. Now and again.
It does not surprise me that Ian gets it. I’m not saying it is justified, but it is understandable.
My advice is not to answer it. I attempted to once and the addy I sent to claimed to have no idea what I was talking about.
If blogfart crux was gonna be after anybody it would probably be me. I’ve heard nothing.
oh, and know if you’re pushing hot buttons – don’t push if you don’t want to get it both barrels blasted
JR,I didn’t respond but I did make a police report (a good friend is on the force).
KFG you don’t see my way I don’t see yours…not gonna change. I am done with the whole lets see if we can make the other made thing.. those who make us made control us. I am tired of controling you and feeling bad about it..nextnow for my husband that maybe another story..
Ian, while of course I dont agree with you on issues of racial quality, I have waaaaaayyyy more affection for you than a lot of the jerks who post here.
You and I are unlikely bedfellows, so to speak :) but yet we find agreement on many issues. And I respect honesty and consistancy and humor. You qualify on all three counts.
But did I ever tell you about my cherished african american ex partner in Austin….heheheh?
Viva la fun!!!
Ian, may I suggest you do the same? That fact that this person knows your name puts your at greater risk than most of us.
Probably nothing, but you never know.
Did you tell your friend about Ian & JR, Julie?
Julie,”What to you call a person who reads this blog, doesn’t appear to post anything and then sends perverted vulgar emails to the personal email accounts of those who do post?”
A total moron with no class, no balls, and no brains.
As for people posting, present or past, here. I say let em post as often or as little as they wish. I want more opinions, more discussions, more intelligent posts. The regulars here pretty much know what is coming from any other regular, and the responses can be atomic at times. But it wouldn’t be any fun without that.
There really are some awesome people here. Having met a bunch, my respect for even the ones I dont agree with jumped 100%.
JOIN THE FUN FOLKS. THE PARTY JUST STARTED!
I think I mighta really pissed him off, ironically, for the first time. Bad timing and poor phrasing, I guess.
Or he may just decided to stop for a while (Ian). Who knows?
Maybe they got him……
hello all.. had way to much fun to just end it at work. i am not a man!!!
Please if you will explain something to me… It’s seems( though I may be mistaken) that many of you are mad at me for what I have said the last couple of days. Why is this..KFG has baited, belittled, cursed at and screamed at me. she has taken the things I hold most dear and tried(though failed) to make a mockery of them and my belief system. I have not done that to her, nor have I tried to say that she doesn’t have a right to believe the ways she does or do what she does, so tell me how I made so many of you mad. I have asked valid questions, i sought answers and instead of getting them I receive more of her hate and contempt and yet I am the one being accused of being bigotry.
Rock,I am not mad at you. I’m just trying to help. KFG is a very opinionated person who can be a bit volatile at times. You just happened to hit on one of her hotbuttons which is the gay issue. I don’t condone name calling and insults. Around here we don’t have referee’s who break up players. You’re on your own. You’re a big person who can defend yourself (which I consider your rebuttals to be tasteful). At the end of the day, we’re still friends, even tho we may not agree with each other. We’re kinda like a disfunctional family. We yell, curse and fight with each other but we still love each other.
ok gotta go feed the chillins. Have a good night all
Rockl, I’m not meaning to be insensitive, but you should read over the last part of this thread very carefully. I forgive you for whatever I’m supposed to forgive you for. Fine. Group hug!
I’m glad you had fun. As for me, the hair’s standing up on the back of my neck:

Ian, I’m probably being silly, but the sooner you post again–on any thread–the better I’ll feel.
thanks Julie!! Mine are at their grandparents for the week…mom’s off duty!!!! Yeah!!!!
not sure what you meant with the last part of the thread Rage… help
I’m probably just being extremely silly and paranoid but. . . the person who sent to the weird email to Julie used Clinton’s original name–Bill Blythe, and mentioned Rom.
3 posts above from Rom.
1) Mentions Monica. Clinton reference.
2) Refers to guns, for no apparent reason.
3) Mentions killing.
Probably someone with a way sick sense of humor.
Ian got a threatening e-mail too–he said a death threat. And he posts under his real name.
Ian’s views are offensive to a lot of people, so I’m not surprised that he got a death threat. But it’s a creepy coincidence.
thank you rage
Rage I am quite sure that Ian is fine.
Actually, I’m quite sure of it, JR.
JR, you still there?
Expect an e-mail in a bit. I don’t want to post it here, but I suspect you will a chuckle out of it.
Ok Rage. But I won’t be back for a bit after this. Gotta get my kid to bed. Back around 10.
I think this Rom character has the potential to be bad news. He says in a post I recall reading that he is an ex-convict.
He has shown a propensity to be crudely provocative. That in itself is not a crime. However, if I thought he sent me anything threatening I would be concerned. I am glad that Julie reported this to the police.
Proudlib, who most of the time, can smell out these sort of things says Rom is a troll who has been around before. I took from that, it was his view that Rom was annoying but harmless.
I dunno, DD. The place is a hall of mirrors. Anyone can be anyone or anyfive.
Who knows if Rom person(s) is really anything threatening–like I said, probably somebody with a foul sense of humor, but there’s always that 1 in 1000 or so (gee, John-Boy seemed like a nice kid!)
And the e-mail address is somebody named Ron on a Eugene, Oregon server. I’d lay that odds of it being a legit address at somewhere between 0:.0001 and 0:1.
Notice how that entire thread was hijacked by people (or, perhaps PERSON?), who seemed a little, well, unbalanced. On a thread about mental health. The last post had, in fact, been a yuk-yuk joke in the 70’s, albeit in poor taste, but context does matter. I took it as that when I read it at first, but I forgot this was the same Rom who suggested putting a gun turret along the border (or something like that).
Those of us who are regulars can usually spot each other’s writing style. Though sometimes people make a grand entrance and become immediately recognizable thereon (that is VERY MUCH a compliment, KFG!).
I’ve had the same throwaway e-mail since the beginning, and I highly recommend the practice. Advantages: (1) Instant Verification–doesn’t seem like me? Send me an e-mail (though I should check it more. . ) (2) If you get Spam, Psycho-mail or whatever, boo-hoo; they know you’re on Yahoo or whatever (OMG!), so abandon it, get a new one, and announce the fact. And if it’s threatening–of course ALWAYS notify the authorities–that should be obvious–(an IP address and a search warrant mean you’re screwed, unless you’re very skilled at covering your tracks—and, surprise!–most people aren’t. . .).
Another thing of course: private communications can sort out the confusion (maybe). Of course, tech folks can discern you originating IP from some services (e.g. Hotmail, prob Yahoo too), but unless you sleep on top of the router, that’s usually not a big issue.
Of course, the same can be said for using your primary e-mail, but you might have to request a new. . .am I boring you guys silly?
You get the idea.
Someone mentioned using code language earlier. I know someone just might understand this:
NiteRider, The screwdriver has been pasteurized. Repeat: The screwdriver has been pasteurized.
Check your decoder ring.
Heheh rage. Thanks for the compliment. That’s why I only post over one name. If I tried another, you would recognize my words instantly.
It’s hard to hide when yer me :)
Thanks the email Rage. That is almost too good not to share. But I won’t.
My take on the mental health thread exchange I will send to you Rage.
You know rage, JR, as obnoxious as I am, I am thankful I havent gotten any hate mail. Only nice mail! I hope that doesnt change now.
See my post above (it’s gibberish to most, but not all. . .).
My point being: use discretion. I wouldn’t have sent it you if I thought you wouldn’t. That which can be slowly shared a person at a time is often, shall we say, a more interesting thing to know for all? :)
Emailing you now Rage.
Well, that took longer than I thought. I answered you, JR. Expanding on things. Check it out.
Aargh! 11:48! No 3:00 a.m. tonight. Uh-uh! G’night folks!
“NiteRider, The screwdriver has been pasteurized. Repeat: The screwdriver has been pasteurized.”
X, you may know what our friend is talking about here. I don’t. Let me know if I can do anything. DD.
DD Rage is onto something. I was just emailing him to reply to his last.
JR,My email address is hot. Let me know. Take care. Steven
Difficult times this week.
Our first death threat poster returns,,,,,maybe under more than one nic, a new term is defined, and a really good post by Molly gets lost in the resulting flame war.
New posters arrive……..or are they new or just new nics?
These matters weigh heavy on my mind. Who can you trust?
For me? I trust all the folks I met at the meet up. They know who they are. I have issues with some of them. But I gotta trust anyone I meet face to face.
I trust also Rage and Proud lib and CF and Mother and also Joe Williams and Outlander and Ed. Not just becuse they agree with me, but because they are known personalities.
And so another week of open blog ends.
Rage, the purple chicken has crossed the road.Repeat, the purple chicken has crossed the road.Check the decoder.
JR, DD, this email address is live!Bring me up to speed.
X,You are senior-geek-in-residence. I’ve been cutting code for 25 years, but don’t pretend to be as deep into the whole game as you are.
I suspect I may be distributing tinfoil hats. Bad on me.
Hope not.
Whoops! Forgot about Walker. . .anyone else? :)
Rage, I’m not a code man. I know some tricks, but judging from your results, you know as much as I do. I’m into some security stuff, but I’m a builder. My big trick is knowing how to back trace. Most people don’t know how to cover their tracks. And your right about Walker. He taught me.
Tinfoil hats? There are too many things that just don’t quite fit.
Okie-doke. I just don’t want us to get to the point where we’re seeing any odd post as someone wearing a stocking over a mask over a wig. That’ll drive us nuts.
And figuring that crap out is ultimately social rather that technical. But I was referring to my first amusing (but, I’m now convinced) utterly coincidental find. The rest of the speculation doesn’t rely on it, but adds a flair of strangeness if we regard it as significant.
Copy that JR, and DD, and if you’re up to date.
P.S. Did anyone NOT figure out that I was the one posting as “Nietzche” (mispelled) earlier, making fun of Hegel’s ranting about God (”Hegel is dead and we have killed him”)? I thought it was obvious.
I think I’ll post as myself exclusively from now on, no matter how tempting the opportunity for satire is.
I will continue to follow up. We can compare notes after the weekend.
Well, okay, not 100%. Will follow-up in e-mail.
