No use fighting March Madness

There are important issues on today’s blog. But let’s face it; March Madness is beginning, and it’s difficult to think very long about anything else. Wichita State University tips off this morning at 11:20 against Seton Hall. And the University of Kansas takes on Bradley Friday night at about 8:30. It won’t be easy to get much work done the rest of the week, but who cares?

Well Phil I would say that anyone who is distracted by basketball and its attendant March madness to the point that it is “difficult to think about anything else” PROBABLY does not belong on the Editorial board. Posting the game times and “that it won’t be easy to get much work done the rest of the week, but who cares?” further reinforces my take on your post.

In Perspective: We take this stuff way too seriously. What does it really matter in the big scheme of things? Yes.. a few kids will get filthy rich because they can drop a ball through a hoop, but most will be forgotten in time. Case in point: A year ago Christmas my son and I travelled to Greece and Israel over the New Year. While there, we saw alot of Tsunami and world events coverage in the news. There was no mention of any of the football “bowl games” or even who won the National Championship. Actually, I still couldn’t tell you who was National Champion or even who won the Super Bowl. The billions of dollars spent on sports entertainment in this country could be used to solve a multitude of social problems.. oh, but I understand… giving up the “office pool” would be too great a sacrifice for most of us…. we must be entertained!

Total agreement with JR and Sam. This “march madness” nonsense is way overhyped, way overblown, and takes up waaaay too much news time. I mean, so what? Some team will win, some team will lose, and next year it happens again.

Does it really make any difference as far as the real issues of today are concerned? No, it is entertainment like going to a movie. The lost productivity at work due to some game somewhere is abhorrent.

I will be very happy when it is over.

WSU whipped Seton Hall. Now maybe Dick Vitale can shut up.

    Now THAT was mature, Todd.

Oh boy…let’s go cheer for some game and cast profanity at anyone who doesn’t agree. While wasting work time and shoving it in the face of anyone and everyone who just doesn’t care.

How stupid do you have to be to be reading a topic that you don’t care about? I’m proud of my Shocks, and you tiresome deadheads are just going to have to live with it for a while.

I wonder how much work time is lost due to people calling in sick who are not. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. I like it and I watch it.In regard to the comment about the money going to social activities. I donate money to charities and I watch sports and movies for entertainment. What I do with my money is my business not yours.

Nobody is telling you what to do with your money Keith.. The point ws just made that MOST people give NOTHING..that’s NADA..ZERO.. to charity.. that is a problem.According to statistics, even faithful churchgoers give less than 2% of their income.. how can anything get accomplished without the funds? What we do with our money DOES affect others….PS. I watch it too.. and root for the Shockers.. but it is just a game…..

Sheesh the news tonight is dominated by this Shocker crap. And now it is cutting into Saturday Night Live.

    “March madness” truly is descriptive.

Why can’t they put this junk on ESPN and leave the rest of us alone.

I don’t know why anybody wants to watch SNL anymore. It hasn’t been good since Hammond and Farrell left. I would rather hear about the Shockers then the grassfires, shootings, weather in Goodland, and the numerous other non news stories that they seem to think is news. The reason they do not put it on ESPN is ESPN is not local.
