Hollywood shows off its pimpin’ values

In case you missed it, the Oscar for best original song went to “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” a crude, dumb rap from the film “Hustle & Flow” about how tough things are for pimps trying to make a buck off their “hos.”
Here’s a sampling of the song’s deep message that parents might not want to share with their daughters:
“You know it’s hard out here for a pimp (you ain’t knowin)
“When he tryin to get this money for the rent (you ain’t knowin)
“For the Cadillacs and gas money spent (you ain’t knowin)
“Because a whole lot of bitches talkin sh-t (you ain’t knowin).”
Charming, eh? To our ears, this isn’t exactly the sound of music. But at least the academy folks got to prove how dangerously hip and relevant they are.

Randy is, of course, correct that voting for Three-Six mafia is a convenient way for the Academy to prove its relevance. But c’mon, Randy, can’t you do better than to quote only the chorus in what is, ultimately, a third-rate impression of Steve Allen talking down to Elvis Presley?

More to the point, there are other lyrics in the song than just the chorus. To wit:

“In my eyes I done seen some crazy thangs in the streetsGotta couple hoes workin on the changes for meBut I gotta keep my game tight like Kobe on game nightLike takin from a ho don’t know no better, I know that ain’t rightDone seen people killed, done seen people dealDone seen people live in poverty with no mealsIt’s fucked up where I live, but that’s just how it isIt might be new to you, but it’s been like this for yearsIt’s blood sweat and tears when it come down to this shitI’m tryin to get rich ‘fore I leave up out this bitchI’m tryin to have thangs but it’s hard fo’ a pimpBut I’m prayin and I’m hopin to God I don’t slip, yeah

    [Chorus]

Man it seems like I’m duckin dodgin bullets everydayNiggaz hatin on me cause I got, hoes on the trayBut I gotta stay paid, gotta stay above waterCouldn’t keep up with my hoes, that’s when shit got harderNorth Memphis where I’m from, I’m 7th Street boundWhere niggaz all the time end up lost and never foundMan these girls think we prove thangs, leave a big headThey come hopin every night, they don’t end up bein deadWait I got a snow bunny, and a black girl tooYou pay the right price and they’ll both do youThat’s the way the game goes, gotta keep it strictly pimpinGotta have my hustle tight, makin change off these women, yeah”

Pretty? No. Honest? I think so.

And for what it’s worth, the last time a Memphis act won the Academy Award for best song, it was back in 1972 when Issac Hayes won for ‘Shaft’.

It’s just another case of hollyweird jews promoting vile negro “culture”! Who would have thunk it? rotflmosrfao

“We must realize that our party’s most powerful weapon is racial tension. By propounding into the consciousness of the dark races that for centuries they have been oppressed by the whites, we can mould them to the program of the Communist Party. In America we will aim for subtle victory. While inflaming the Negro minority against the whites, we will endeavor to install in the whites a guilt complex for their exploitation of the Negroes. We will aid the Negroes to rise in prominence in every walk of life, in the professions and in the world of sports and entertainment. With this prestige, the Negro will be able to intermarry with the whites and begin a process which will deliver America to our cause.” Israel Cohen, A Racial Program For The 20th Century (1912)quoted by Congressman Abernathy, Congressional Record (1957), p. 8559

I liked this song, plus the other two choices the academy members had to choose from for original song were totally lame. And I think Randy didn’t either see the movie or missed the moral message of the movie. Terrance Howard deserved his nod for best actor too. I highly recommend it.

Ed, I disagree. It will continue to have profound meaning as long as just whispering it wins elections for the War Daddy GOP.

And victims are now called “terrorists,” which is somehow suppose to make murdering them the right thing to do.

But that’s been true from the beginning.

Ever since “American Beauty” won best film, I couldn’t care less about the Oscars. Instead of being called “Tinsel Town”, Hollywood should be renamed “Toilet Town”.
