DeLay proves he’s still a contender

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, under indictment for alleged campaign-finance violations, pulled out an easy victory this week in a low-turnout Republican primary race, defeating three opponents and winning 62 percent of the vote in his suburban Houston district.
DeLay said GOP voters had rejected the “politics of personal destruction.” Right. It will be interesting to see whether that claptrap plays with a general audience this November, when he faces Nick Lampson, a seasoned and well-financed Democratic foe, in what promises to be a tough, nasty race.
Still, don’t underestimate “The Hammer” — he’s a hardball player and a survivor. I wouldn’t put money on his losing.

A Republican voter is becoming like an abused wife who thinks it’s her fault for not being supportive enough when her drunken lout of a husband comes home from his mistress and breaks her nose.

    These are the people hitting them and their base can’t . . . stop . . . loving . . . them.

    Sad. Just sad.

The best thing Delay can do for the cause of governmental reform and dissolution of the Republican Party monopoly in Washington, D.C. is to continue to campaign for reelection, and to continue to fight his indictment. Go Tom Go!

I’m afraid DeLay is like herpes; he never goes away. I agree with kelly. As far as the Democratic Party is concerned, DeLay is the gift that keeps on giving. He’s the poster child for abuse of power and corruption in the GOP. The man reeks of arrogance.

It’s not DeLay who is a force, it’s the idiot voters who don’t understand what the word “crook” means.

Randy may not put money on DeLay losing, but he’s praying for it (clear violation of church and state) for it daily. Trust me.

On another thread the question was raised about Democrats being crazy. With their slavish love of DeLay the same can be asked about Republicans. The reality is that the “true believers” in BOTH parties tend to dominate in the primaries. Just look at how low the turnout will be here in August.

Just goes to show you that the Republicans want to keep the Criminal Element in power. Can’t they think for themselves, are Republicans really that dumb. Oh! blind to, can’t they see what is going on. I hope God will forgive them!

One good sign is that there was a very low turnout, apparently most of his former supporters are so disillusioned they didn’t even bother to vote.

I wonder how many people he had to pay off to get that. Delay sucks! I can’t believe people re-elect crooks over and over again in Congress. I mean, Kennedy been there since the 60’s, and people still re-elect him.

Delay is one of the worst politicans ever in Congress.

Hmmm . . . what happened to Joe Blow, Jimmy Bisoni and Heckler telling us how the true criminal is Prosecutor Ronnie Earle.

Now that DeLay has been linked to Abramoff money and slave labor in Saipan, (http://www.thenewamerican.com/artman/publish/article_3116.shtml) it’s so hard to keep up the lies and pretense, isn’t it boys.

Maybe Rush will finally break silence on this topic so you can tell us what “you” think . . .

The big charge against delay is violating Texas campaign finance law by soliciting and receiving corporate donations. He has also been charged with money laundering through his pac.

And I didnt have to google that either!

Right, KSFG. That was BEFORE all the Abramoff stuff, heh.

Wow with Hank gone, there is NO ONE left to defend Tom De Lay! (Joe Williams having demonstrated that not ALL Republicans are willing to ride the wagon rolling over the coutry and toward the cliff)

Hey here’s an interesting bit of specualtion. Do ya think bush will campaign for De Lay? Do you think De Lay will want him to?

Who wins that race to the bottom?

Last I checked Delay claimed to be a staunch Pro-Lifer and had the backing of the Christian-Right.

Hank:”Tom will win in November too!”

He actually could win, which is what is surprising. But of course, you know how he’s doing this don’t you? It is the stand-by routine for Republicans. He is the VICTIM of a smear campaign by a mean, nasty democrat. People down there bought that shit.

Control the WhiteHouse, Senate, House of Representatives, have the Supreme Court stacked with their ideologues, but those poor Republicans are victims, innocent victims, I tell you! Makes you almost want to cry.

Delay is a sleeze and crook and most Republicans in Texas will admit that (at least in private). However, in Delay’s upscale suburban district southwest of Houston, Democrats are simply not competitive. How can you be competitive when most will vote a straight Republican ticket in November? Chances are you will see him winning in November. I do hope that enough people will think outside the box and vote a split ticket in this case.

When I lived in The Woodlands,Texas (north of Houston, not in Delay’s district but certainly almost identical in voter sentiment), while standing in the line at the Republican primary at 2 PM in the afternoon (you can’t say that all college professors are liberal), there was nobody in the Democratic line and the individual at the Democratic table was reading the newspaper to pass the time. I hope Delay loses in November, but his Democratic opponent is certainly swimming uphill.
