Carroll’s happy ending stands out amid violence

How remarkable that freelance reporter Jill Carroll was released unharmed in Baghdad, after three months of captivity and those heart-wrenching videotape appeals. “They never hit me. They never even threatened to hit me,” she said on Iraqi TV. Sadly, Carroll’s happy ending does not appear to be a sign of any trend away from violence in the country. According to U.S. Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, the Iraqi casualties have soared in the past few weeks, to a daily average of about 75 dead and wounded. That rate is higher than the past two years.

This is not a pity post.

I do kinda feel sorry for this thread. It hasn’t got any hits at all.

Maybe that is because it is good news.

Maybe it’s because there isn’t anything contentious about it.

    I’ll offer this:

This woman was not beheaded, or mistreated in any way.

“They never even threatened to hit me” she said.

Maybe this needs more play. Maybe it would only be fair.

We have rightly or wrongly painted all those who fight against us in Iraq as bloodthisty seventh century monsters.

I think this instance serves to discount that a little.

And maybe if the enemy is a little more human then we would like to admit.

Well maybe we have to ask again just what we are doing there…….or what we are doing wrong.

    Also,

The only demand that those who held JIll Carrol ever made was that we release some of the female prisoners we hold in Iraq.

That they treated her so well, and did not in the end kill her as they had threatened (even though their demands were never met)

Maybe we ought to make sure we are treating those prisoners well.

The Arab complaints against the Zionists are legitimate. The Arabs have the high-ground on every issue and the Zionists occupy the bottom of the barrel as usual.

CSM reports accurately and doesn’t avoid important issues like the criminal and disgusting behaviour of Zionism.

They released her because she reports the truth.

It was not about how she was treated, it was about what she represents.

The reason you’re raising the issue about how we’re treating prisoners is because you know we’re abusing them as usual.

The techniques of torture used at Abu Ghraib and others were perfected over the years on Palestinians at Facillity 1391 in Israel, where for a fee you Zionists could watch right up to the killing.

What goes around comes around, that’s why Mr. Berg had to suffer by having his head cut-off.

I see your latest project is to starve the Palestinian refugees. Who thinks this stuff up?

    Uh Ed?

I hope we aren’t abusing prisoners. Certainly we have in the past. I hope this reporters treatment is considered in how we treat proners.

Um……I’m not starving any Palestinian refugees.

JRIf Ed says you’re starving Palestinians, than it’s gotta be true. So the real questions are: where you hiding them? Do they have ligimate visas? Why?

    Degenerate minds want to know.

Yeah J M I had no idea I was a Zionist. Maybe he means I’m an unwilling Zionist.

But I was the first to come to his defense when someone talked about putting a bullet in his brain.

I was just trying to make a good post on some good news that was generating no posts.

Ed? If all you see around you is enemies, it is not likely you’ll ever find a friend.

Walker, I was talking to Zionists and their supporters in general.

What I fail to see is anybody here offering condemnation about cutting-off their food supply or any other rotten things the Israeli Zionists come-up with.

    Uh No Ed

You attacked me. C M just noticed it.

Now unless you know something I don’t, I am not a Zionist or a Zionist supporter…….not that I know of anyway.

Ed does have a valid point that food supplies have been cut off in the heavily blockaded territories, particularly Gaza. This has been done with US support. Malnutrician and hunger have been endemic in the surrounded enclaves inside Greater Israel for years.

As for direct US mistreatment of prisoners this has been well documented for several years now. I want to hope that this policy has been discontinued but really have no reason to.

Well, this assumes that Jill Carroll and Tom Fox were captured by actual Iraqis.

An administration that lies its people into war cannot be trusted on anything, except that they’ll do whatever is necessary.

Kidnapping and killing peace workers who see what’s going on and are critical is one way of shutting them up, isn’t it?

Sounds like that benefits TeamBush more than the Iraqis. Jill Carroll may have been released, but it sends a chilling message to all the other reporters. Stay with your military handlers or else . . .

Again, the people who benefit seem to be BushCo.

The Iraqis got nothing out of this.

Well Ed I guess if you meant that I was guilty by association by way of ignorance I guess you could be right. I will have to make sure I am better informed.

To me, it just suddely looked like you thought I was in favor of these things!

All the more reason Bush and Rice should resign. They’re disgusting and just about as unamerican as it gets.

Ed,I sincerely hope you’re not as naive to actually believe in the 50s squeaky-clean Captain America comic book ideal do you? I mean, if you still believe that such an America ever existed, I guess you are pretty ignorant of our history.

    Love it or leave it.
