Brownback to the rescue?

It’s always instructive to see our members of Congress through outsiders’ eyes. Consider an admiring piece on Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., in The Economist, complete with cartoon casting the squinty senator as sword-wielding slayer of all things evil. The commentary notes: “His enthusiasm for saving children in Darfur as well as fetuses in Kansas makes his social conservatism more acceptable to moderates (so does his mellifluous manner).”
But of Brownback’s presidential prospects, it concludes: “Americans are growing weary of a born-again president who wants merely to transform the Middle East. They will need a lot of convincing to back a man who wants to abolish suffering wherever he can find it.”

Doh! Guess that means Brownback won’t be President, since “Brokeback Mountain” was passed over for Best Picture.

The last do-gooder we elected president was Jimmy Carter. A good man with good intentions who screwed up everything. But even though he was born-again, he at least had/has the intelligence to know the U.S. constitution separates church and state for good reasons. And then, of course, we have Shrub…

At least Brownback has the consistency mentioned above. Although I disagree with him on many things I can respect him.

Brown back only looks to end suffering among the few priviledge BILLIONAIRS! We all must pity the poor billionairs. They have so much to worry about:The 300 foot Yacht in Florida, The $2,000 a month condo for the mistress, did she remember to use her contraceptive last night, oh well we can vacation in the caymens and party after she gets fixed, oh ,,,, then the Rolls Royce and the Jag and the Porche for Sundays. We need some more loop holes to screw the poor working slobs so we make money from others paying taxes! Seen any Republicans lately? We all need to live like EXXON and ENRON! Poor Billionaires they have to find ways to invest tax breaks after YOU pay for them! Thanks Brownback!

Well, ya got that right! Brownback is my partner and we need 400 Billion More for rebuilding Iraq operation freedom so we can give it to Haliburton so Cheney and I can retire some day. We are the party of unBALANCED BUDGETS.

Have you see the end of the debt yet? Come on we are conservatitives… we don’t tax and spend too much?

The following passage in the provided link really interests me:

“Mr Brownback’s enthusiasm for mixing God and politics has left him with lots of strange bedfellows. He co-sponsored legislation against sex trafficking with the late (and near socialist) Paul Wellstone and co-sponsored the North Korea Refugee Act with Ted Kennedy. He frequently rubs shoulders with feminists and black activists. Indeed, he is arguably today’s champion of liberal internationalism, the baton having been passed from the Clintonites (who are now out of power) and from human-rights groups (who are divided over things like sex trafficking).”

That in itself is enough to give Brownback serious thought. His work in the United States involving prison reform, his attempts at correcting the wrong doing still plaguing the indian nations, and his fights for social justice put him in a class by himself. He is definitely not a phony, nor a blowhard. He is worth a serious look.

After all I said about Brownback, the idiot voted no on a senate proposal to limit lobbyists, and what congress can suck off them. Ain’t that a beeyatch.

He loves all those free trips he can take advantage of. If he voted for the limits, he’d be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

If you read the Catholic Bishop’s position on economic equity you will find them extremely “liberal”. In fact, it makes me look like a far-right conservative.

I’m sorry, but when I compare Senator Sam Brownback’s record with the record of our former Kansan who was elected President, Dwight D. Eisenhower — Sam Brownback appears to come up far short. Sam Brownback apparently has no private work experience nor any military service record.

Apparently he has only state and federal government experience at which he has been subject to very little supervision so his record as a producer is difficult to evaluate.

From what I can see, Mr. Brownbackneeds to apply for a position as a missionary with a large conservative church organization to try to push his admittedly laudable goals.

    Uhm . . . PL?

If you read the opening blog by Rhonda, you will find the word “piece”. It is the link to the one I referred to when I said “provided”. It is not written by Ann Coltsfootinmouth.

Now, can I get an “amen”? That will suffice.

Good post J wink. We should see more of you!

While I naturally hope Brownback is the GOP nominee so that he can lose in a landslide, I must report the following.

First GOP stirrings for their nominee in Tennessee straw poll this weekend.

Mc Cain in a shrewd political maneuver called for his supporters to vote for bush! ( no way Mc Cain could win down there, just as no way bush can run again) Mc Cain thus skewed the poll and justified his poor showing.

Coming in third in this Tenessee GOP straw poll? bush and George Allen.

    At second was Mit Romney.

Far beating the whole field was Bill Frist Dem Sen Tennessee, who bused in supporters in his home state.

Brownback may have been fourth. Fourth was not reported.

And so as J wink says. Brownback might best devote his efforts to missionary work. His efforts as a Senator have been destructive to his own state. Despite my hopes for his GOP candidacy for President in 2008 this does not seem realistic. So let him take his particular talent for travel on others expense and actually do some good somewhere……else.
