What Huy asked Hemenway

Some bloggers already mentioned this in an earlier post, but it’s worth highlighting:
Given the opportunity to hear from the chancellor of the state’s largest university, most legislators would want to make every question count. Unfortunately, Rep. Bonnie Huy, R-Wichita, used the time during a House hearing Monday to ask University of Kansas chancellor Robert Hemenway to comment on an incident that didn’t even happen — a student’s throwing of a pie at Ann Coulter. The conservative commentator, a rhetorical bomb-thrower herself, was heckled at a KU speech last March, but no pies were thrown. Hemenway pointed that out to Huy, adding that the university tries to convey to students the value of being respectful of others. “That’s as it should be,” Huy said. “All speakers should be treated with respect.”
That’s a nice idea. But lawmakers surely don’t expect those running the state’s universities to control their students’ exercise of speech. And that the pie question was even asked suggests there is a profound lack of understanding at the Statehouse of the pressing issues facing higher education in Kansas.

Rep. Bonnie Huy, R-Wichita, huh? Bonnie? You should be raising that IQ of yours. Either that or put on a man’s suit. You are a disgrace to womenhood. Please, do not breed.

I would really like to hear more from Bonnie. I think she has dethroned Rep. Kay OConnor for idiot legislator of the year award.

Urban legends are more important to Bonnie than reality. She demonstrates that every time she opens her mouth.

Well never mind that bonnie led the hate brigade last year in the legislature. This year she has more important things to do, like protect that delicate flower Ann “all arabs are ragheads” Coulter.

What else did Joe, Terry, and Fred send you to Topeka to do this year? Shilling for the gambling industry, bringing the state supreme court under the control of wingnuts, protecting a visiting hate monger, stop gay adoptions etc. You must be really busy.

I mean, bonnie, it isnt like you all have REAL issues to deal with. Issues like sky high state debt, starving education system, the state bleeding population loss, etc.

Naw, just check with Joe, Terry and Fred, Bonnie. They will tell you what is important for Kansas.

Ann Coulter – she is the one who complained that Timothy McVeigh didn’t blow up the NY Times. I wonder how Bonnie feels about THAT sentiment? Maybe target the Eagle?

Ben,Of course urban legends are important to Bon-Bon. They’ve become one of the most effective tools of the religious right, in their efforts to claim status as a persecuted minority on the outside, while building a siege metality among their supporters. Some of those legends that make the rounds are lulus, such as the claim that American satanists perform 50,000 human sacrifices a year! Then there are all those about children being denied bibles, or being searched for religious tracts, etc., in public schools.Urban legends have proved a useful propaganda machine, since tracing their origins is difficult to impossible, and people give them far more credence than they deserve.Bon-Bon is not about to give them up!

HA, good nickname for her jed!

Those urban myths include ray’s man who was convicted for shooting the guy who broke into his house and was raping his wife is another urban myth. Makes it look like we have to take the “law” into our own hands, cant rely on the ACTIVIST COURTS fer goodness sake. Same reason they are above the FISA laws. The uber conservatives cant trust an objective court, only one stacked with their handpicked robots. (read SCOTUS)

Bonnie is waaaaayyyyy out front on having the ks legislature take control of the courts!! We dont need no stinkin checks and balances in bon-bon’s land of WINGNUTTIA.

The urban myth here is that the courts dont work. Funny, we dont say that when we loose a decision. They must learn it at Bedwetter U.

Farm Gal,Well, it wasn’t my first choice (Bunsies Galore), but that could end up being offensive to other women. So Bon-Bon will have to do.

Did anyone see Bon-Bon’s comments about the new bill to raise the Kansas marriage age? She was the ONLY lawmaker voting against it – and her reason? She said her sister and Loretta Lynn were good examples of very young brides who ended up well off! Excuse me?! Loretta Effing Lynn? That’s who we’re supposed to emulate now?

My experience with Bonnie Huy was an experience. But like they say, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.

She has her supporters though, and boy are they a very angry bunch.

I have nothing against her personally, but I wouldn’t mind if she would retire from the legislature.
