We’re No. 2!

Of all the online blogs at Knight Ridder newspapers, only Dave Barry’s blog at The Miami Herald receives more reader comments than our editorial department blog. That’s an amazing accomplishment, especially given the smaller size of our market compared with many of those other newspapers.
Of course, the credit for this success goes to you readers. Thanks for not being shy about expressing your opinions. And, please, keep those comments coming — we’d love to beat Barry.

Cookie, I agree. What is the link to Barry’s blog. Is Barry’s the “all jesus all the time” channel just like this one? You all seem to have fun on your blog. I’d like to try that sometime instead of endless tail chasing with the whiney jesus freaks that troll this blog.

‘Whiney jesus freaks that troll this blog’; dayum! ksfarmgrrl, you kill me, particularly with the double sense of ‘troll’.

I’d ask you to be my Valentine, but I recall you at one point making it clear that you’re a Sapphic kind of gal.

Regarding Philip’s congratulation for our incredible feat, I’d like to ask when we ought to expect the money to begin rolling in.

Why give a link to the competition. ;)

This is a great blog and it is pretty active. I have actually been on here since day one.

But my question is: How does this help the Wichita Eagle? Does it get people to by the Wichita Eagle? Are you expecting to advertise? Or are you guys doing this blog off the clock?

With Knight Ridder being on the sale block, I’m wondering if this blog helps you guys.

Don’t get me wrong. I love it and want you guys to keep on the blog going. But just concerned about the revenue perspective.

    ksfarmgrrl,

I do indeed have a sister, Kat, who I refer to as the mighty KAT-O-SAN and ‘Fagbitch’ (for the record, she calls me this as well). She is an acid-tongued Audrey Hepburn, and equally makes strong men and women weak. She, however, is no devotee of Sappho. Alas 4 U.

    Dear Philip,

I just wonder how many posts there would be if people actually had to use their real names and take responsiblity for their childish and profane posts. I wonder how many decent people have been discouraged from posting because of the imature flaming that goes on here if you disgree with the radical left.

I belong to several submarine veteran BBS’s and we get quite unruly, especially when it comes to politics. However, we all know each other’s names and addresses. We never write anything on the BBS that we wouldn’t say to each other’s face.

No I think the people that use profane language and use character assasination to make a point, all the while hiding behind a fake name and email address are dispicable beyond words. I’ve never posted anything on this BLOG that I would not say to anyone’s face.

I invite anyone that disagrees with me to take up my invitation for lunch!

Excellent question, Hank. I have wondered the same thing. I have read some paranoia fort using real names…but I have been using mine here and haven’t suffered any plague or identity theft or anything horrid.

Would be very interesting to see if the posts continuted if they had to use their real names.

Gee Ray and Hank, maybe you havent suffered anything horrible because you both post that conservative drivel. Those peace loving, constitution carrying, gun-hating liberals wouldnt do anything horrible to you. You have nothing to fear from us.

But conservatives doing horrible things in the name of the church? Hmmm….long history of abuse in that. We certainly dont want you burning a cross on our lawns or gay bashing us or bombing our doctors’ offices.

Gee…now people who disagree with you burn crosses on lawns? Bomb doctor’s offices? Bash Gays?

Your turn..prove it. Prove that anyone here on this blog that has ever had the temerity to disagree with you has ever bombed anyone. Prove it.

Your intolerance of any kind of opposing view is unbelievable. Your way or the highway, is that it?

“But conservatives doing horrible things in the name of the church?”

These are the people I said burn crosses, bash gays, bomb doctors, etc.

Do you fall into this group? Do all people who disagree with me fall into this group? No, I regularly disagree with everyone here, not just you self-important conservatives.

Nice leap of logic Ray. Wanna try again?

“Your turn..prove it. Prove that anyone here on this blog that has ever had the temerity to disagree with you has ever bombed anyone. Prove it.”

That is what we are trying to prevent Ray. Like I said, you agree with the people who do these things, so they are not going to do them to you. Of course you dont worry.

And if you think violence against gays and liberals and non-christians is something that isnt real, well, you have been breathing too many exhaust fumes.

Leap of logic??? Excuse the hell out of me? You wrote:

“We certainly dont want you burning a cross on our lawns or gay bashing us or bombing our doctors’ offices.”

The use of the word “you”. Does that mean the same thing on your planet that it does here? You are accusing anyone of disagreeing with you of bombing things. That is a huge leap.

You are really pathetic. No rational discourse here. Your accusations are so far off base there is no possibility of mature discussion with you. I give up.

  20. ksfarmgrrl
    Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:34 pm | Permalink

Ray, I am patiently explaining here, that because I dont want YOU to do something in the future doesnt mean YOU personally did it in the past. “You” has a personal and a generic usage, but that may be too much for YOU to hold in your head at one time.

Where do YOU get that anyone who disagrees with me is guilty of the above? Hell, I disagree all the time with Walker, and I dont think he personally beat Matthew Sheppard or bombed a wichita doctor’s office.

I disagree with YOU Ray, and I dont want YOU or anyone else out here harassing me. In light of real violence that has happened in the past, I dont think that using a screen name makes me or anyone else a coward.

I still think YOU protest too much. YOU must be feeling guilty about something. Is that clear enough usage of the word “you”?

  21. Posted February 12, 2006 at 1:04 pm | Permalink

Yes Ray, what are you feeling guilty about? Secret fantasies of bombing clinics or beating up gays, maybe?

Hank, you are a fool. I say again, you are a fool. You have your head up your butt.

It’s a bad, bad world out there! If you haven’t noticed, there is much violence AGAINST Christians as well. If you don’t believe it, ask the parishoners of the 10 churches recently burned.I believe on both sides, it’s typical “extremist” views that actually go out and ACT on their hateful ideas. We all need to control the rhetoric and the rage (no offense “Rage”) or it always escalates out of control. Those of you claiming to be Christian.. is not being “out of control” the very behavior that causes you to be in denial of Christ’s teachings? Think before you speak or write, and even more, think before you act!

2 Corinthians 10:5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

ksfarmgrrl..You have already proven to me that you are not willing to listen to a rational thought, so I take your comments with a grain of salt. You twist the scripures to suit your own ideals. If you ever choose to try and understand what true Christianity is all about, then maybe we can have a discussion. As long as you only attack and label, I choose not to take you seriously. The amazing thing about Christians is that they still care about you, even though you choose to be their enemy. Does it make you angry because we are praying for you or what?

Makes me wonder, whom ksSam is addressing with the quote, the heathens or the radical “christianists” who seem to enjoy destroying things to show Christ’s love. Care to elaborate?

  35. kansassam

Roo…The quote actually applies to EVERY Christian. This reference was made for those who may be contemplating un-Christian acts.

Why on earth would “heathens” make their thoughts obedient to Christ?

And no, your prayers dont make me angry. I think they are funny but they dont make me angry. Pray for a little rain too, would ya?

Surely you have heard what we say out here, spit in one hand and pray into the other and see which one gets full first. I am waiting, sam, for all those prayers to kick in.

Sam,What she’s referring to is the doctrine of transubstantiation- that the host actually becomes the flesh and blood of Christ- that the catholics and orthodox christians accept, along with some protestant denominations. Symbolically, it really isn’t that far from the practices of some cannibals!

I understand my fellow liberals who choose anonymity. Conservative posters are scary folks. Scarier still is the knowledge that people that they support are currently in power…..and accumulating power.

But I’m not afraid of Conservative posters. They are like the leaders they support: empty, sad little soldiers of a beknigthed ideal. I’m not afraid of what they would do to me……..they are getting that done every day. But if I were to take it personal….meet them…..well violence is not the liberal way.

Bizarre.. but hard to believe because there’s no account of apostles puking… which would have been pretty noteworthy!!
