Sizing up the possibility of a President Sebelius

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius still isn’t talking about her re-election bid this fall, let alone higher office years from now. But that won’t stop others from sizing up Sebelius as a potential national candidate, especially with the Democrat earning a 61 percent approval rating in the latest SurveyUSA poll of this Republican state. Usually Sebelius’ name comes up as a possible candidate for vice president. But Newsweek contributing editor Eleanor Clift didn’t stop there in a speech Sunday at Lawrence’s Dole Institute of Politics, downplaying Sen. Hillary Clinton’s chances but suggesting Sebelius might have what it takes: “She comes from a political family, and she’s done a good job,” Clift said of Sebelius. “She is the kind of woman who you could imagine having prospects.” Meanwhile, Geena Davis’ deft portrayal of the prez every Tuesday night on ABC can’t help but ready the American psyche for the moment a woman will take the oath. It’s coming.

    Dear Rhonda,

The first lady president is going to be black, conservative and republican. 8 years after serving as Newt’s VP.

    Sorry to break your bubble.

Hank, I ran into the first woman president last week in Washington…she was coming out of a Senate hearing. There’s a whole ‘nother world out there over the rainbow…Kansans seem to have forgotten that.

What is it she does for a living anyway? She probably should get into politics and build a record to run on.

    LOL!!!

    Dear mrcontroversy,

Was she really shrill with fat thighs, surrounded by secret service?

If so, that whole ‘nother world you talk about is very small, self-centered and really scarey. She’s not the one!

Do you think that Eleanor Clift might have just been playing to her audience in order to generate a little publicity? Worked.

Wishful thinking. Her positive ranking in one midwestern state doesn’t translate to favorable national acceptance. Yes, she is a ‘nice lady’, but is not known outside Kansas.

And, as you said in a previous thread, you wonder why I flame you? :)

No Hank, she was the woman with the “pissed off chihuahua look” as someone noted before.

Had a dog tag that said “CONDI, please return to shrub if lost”.

I doubt Sebelius even has a chance to make it as President. She is not leftist enough to attract the primary fringe base of the Democratic Party.

She is also non-contraversial, doesn’t speak out, and plays it way to safe.

She doesn’t have the personality or the spine to run for the office of President.

Let’s not forget that Newt abandoned one of his wives while she was hospitalized and undergoing cancer treatment.

I bet he would be real attractive to the religious right portion of the party. Not!

So…she has the personality and spine for gov, but not for preznit?

    Dear Tator,

I’ve never relly mentioned Clinton’s several hundred little infidelities. You just took a big giant step with that assumption without a ‘Mother-may-I’. Go back to the start line.

But,… since you brought it up, I thought that after Clinton we were no longer allowed to judge a man by his personal sex life. Or, do I sense a double standard?

Hank, I bet you really are a nice guy. Misguided :) but nice. I wouldnt even mind having lunch with you. Can we go for sushi?:)

Why do you think I take it personally? I am an equal opportunity offender and expect to get as good as I give (chuckle) and I usually do.

How come when we respond to you, we are bitter, sarcastic, mean and taking it personally, but when you flame us, it is just good fun? Dont light a fire and then whine because I responded with a back fire.

You used an example of me picking on the junior sentor from New York as an excuse to jump me. (no pun intended) I wasn’t picking on you.

We ought to do lunch some time, I enjoy converstions with someone that can actually form a complete sentence! (even if it is a little misguided)

Sushi is fine, but we’ll have to go east of the river, hope I can get my visa up dated.

    Qwan Court?

You bring the matches, I’ll bring the Coleman fuel. I’ll show you an old indian trick on how to start a fire!

One of the things I have learned in my short life is never doubt a woman when she makes up her mind she’s going to do something. Is Sebelius prez material right now? Probably not. Could she be someday? If she really wants to, anything’s possible. Clinton came out of relative obscurity–another Midwestern state everyone makes fun of. I’m not saying he was a great prez, far from it. I’m just saying we shouldn’t rush to judgement.

BTW, I saw this “vp or prez” gambit played by Ann Richards. Makes people think you are a winner if “others” are interested in you on the national level. I think it is out of the EMILY play book. Didnt work for ann when she ran against shrub. But then, barnett and jennison are no shrubs either!

It is really sad to think that anyone would consider Sebelius as anything. She has done nothing as Governor without taking a poll on it and she has taken credit for all of the things that were worked on and passed by the Republicans.

I don’t care what your party affiliation is but I do care that the person that ran for the position of Leader for the state of Kansas actually lead.

She has been missing in action on all of the major issues in Kansas except for trying hard to raise taxes on all Kansans.

Where was she on education? That’s right she was no where after her first year as governor she could not get her massive tax increase passed.

Where is she for the most vulnerable people of this state? That’s right she is not there. She has cut the in home service waivers for the elderly and decreased the funing for children, the poor as well as the disabled.

She will tell you that she has tried to help but just look at the budget she submitted to the legislature and you can see the reductions she made herself.

So think real hard before you leap and pay attention to what your leader is doing or not doing.

Dear Hank:This is an election year and 2008 is an election year, You talked about Newt for President and as in all elections there is no limits. Unless you are W, then you get to go to a certain date and stop, Probably because you know anything past the date you give will embarrass the Religous Right that is putting you in office to do the dirty work for them. Now the remark; Back up and start over, Thats what you are going to have to do when the Democrats take back over because your party is a bunch of thiefs and law breakers

KSfarmgirl, I didn’t say I hated Sebelius or don’t support her. She’s ok in my book. She is a moderate right leaning Democrat.

But she is not perfect. She has her faults, just like everybody, and in my opinion, her faults make her very unlikely to be a Presidental candidate.
