Politics had a place at King’s funeral

Some have expressed shock at how Coretta Scott King’s funeral Tuesday became a forum for Bush bashing in particular and politics in general. But how could it have been otherwise in America, circa 2006? The widow of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had been a vocal critic of the Iraq war and otherwise at odds with the current White House. Her perspective was bound to be represented at such an event. It also was only right that President Bush be present, too, given King’s role in the civil rights struggle and stature in American life. And Bush is big enough to be able to sit through the criticism.

    Well, thanks, Rhonda.

I expect the “well” will annoy you. I hope not. You basically laid it out: the civil rights leaders of the 60’s (and beyond) have some difficulty with current chief executive. And for that, I profusely THANK YOU, Rhonda!

Look, for Ray and other semi-loyal Repubs: Give me Ford, hell, even Dole! This guy is Nixon². Yeah, he’s President (via two contested elections). Beyond that, I respect the responsibility that comes with it.

Ahem. . . what crawled up MY butt?

Okay, Joseph Lowery is a “Marxist.” Right.

Karl Marx actually said some things that were worth remembering, but a lot of people who call themselves “Marxists” tend not to remember them (in fact, Marx himself once declared, exasperated, that “I am not a Marxist.”)

Leaving aside the intellectual disputes about just what IS a “Marxist”. . uhm. . . why do you think Lowery is a Marxist?

Apology accepted. But just because Lowery was a Marxist, doesn’t mean that one can identify the entire civil rights movement as being overwhelmingly comprised of Marxists. They were mostly comprised of blacks who just wanted a fair share at the American Dream that us minorities today take for granted. I sure as well wouldn’t wanna be a second-class citizen, and I don’t think anybody else would want to be treated that way either. And Rage, name-calling is so 7th grade.

    Whoa! Rhonda!

You got it all wrong again! I don’t think that Lowery was bad mouthing Bush. Everyone of the rich white politicians on that stage believed that the sadman had WMD’s everyone of them! I just took it as a dig by a black man at a bunch of whiteys. Which is entirely appropriate in a black church at a black funeral.

And poor ol’ Jimiminy Carter was slipping it to that great sainted icon of the democratic party, John F. Kennedy and his little brother Bobby! They were the ones that wiretapped the good MLK to prove that he had been associating with communist sympathizers and running around on his good wife Corretta.

The only three people in that church with with any class were Bush, his wife and the third one, rest her soul, was dead.

Rage,Bush is Nixon2? I think you need to go back and do some research: Nixon did more FOR race relations than any president before or since. His record on that matter is open and great. He also started OSHA. His accomplishments far outway any Democrat president after him. Hell, he got us out of Viet Nam after Johnson blew it wide open.

To compare Nixon to Bush is both stupid and ignorant. Bush couldn’t carry Nixons jock strap.

Nixons problem was he surrounded himself with the scum of the republican party, which Bush has done also. Clinton had some scum there himself, if I recall correctly. But Nixon never started a war.

You also have to remember who was running the FBI then. Girlyboy had some much on so many, that no one in Washington, including Nixon, Kennedy, Johnson, or their staff or congress, had the guts to dump him. He was the one who ran Washington in those days.

You are right Ray! He was illegally wiretapped. JFK thought he was a threat and a communist. That with his clear racisim he had with Blacks, he was looking to destory MLK.

Did you know the JFK refused to see MLK when King asked multiple times to see him to speak on civil rights until King delivered his wonderful “I have a dream” speech. Because only then did it allow JFK a political moment.

We know that Democrats have a poor record of Civil Rights and they exploitate and take advantage of the black vote.

The new face of Civil Rights is the Republican Party. That is why you are seeing prominent African Americans running for office as a Republican. Such as the Ohio Governors race and the Maryland Senate race, and their chances of winning is really good.

African Americans are getting tired of the false promise of the Democratic Platform and leftist liberalism.

Kennedy made mistakes. Hoover was out of control in the FBI, but that doesn’t absolve JFK of his complicity. He dicked around with Southern Democratic governors like Barnett when James Meredith was trying to enroll.

But he ultimately came around and called in the marshalls and forced those cracker Confederate racists to act like decent Americans. The freedom rides worked to bring in the federal gov’t.

Democrats lost the South standing up for Civil Rights, and we haven’t gotten it back after 40 years.

Democrats didn’t do enough fast enough for Civil Rights. That’s why King said that ‘power is never given freely, it must be taken.’ But they did the right thing eventually.

And that’s why every African-American elected member of Congress is Democratic.

Hispanics and Latinos:A Culture – Not a Race!

    ——————————————————————————–

Now, repeat after me: “Hispanic is not a race.” Disregard nearly every U.S. Government form which asks for race and shake your head in dismay at the cultural ignorance of nearly every writer in practically every newspaper in the United States, yes! the United States, because the term “Hispanic” or the equally misused “Latino” is nowhere used in so many wrong applications as it is in our politically correct, but sometimes culturally incorrect nation.

Go ahead, pick any random issue of the Washington Post, or the latest book of essays by the great Camille Paglia or the wording in some of our 50 states’ Equal Rights laws. You will also find countless medical surveys or economic studies where “races” are broken into Black, White, Asian and Hispanic; Congressional Black Caucus members complain that U.S. Government policy is different for Cubans because they are “light-skinned Hispanics.” The samples go on and on.

For the last time: Hispanicism is NOT a race! Hispanicism is the cultural legacy which sometimes unites nearly every country in the New World south of California into a diverse group of peoples and races joined by a common language. Oh, by the way, I suppose one must throw in Spaniards, although I was shocked and amazed to listen to a San Francisco Mexican-American politician declare a few years ago that ” Spaniards were not Hispanic because they were Europeans and white.”

    Cameron Diaz

There are white Hispanics (Cuban-American actress Cameron Diaz and Spanish actor Martin Sheen a.k.a. Guillermo Estevez and his warren of sons come to mind), Black Hispanics (the late great Puerto Rican baseball player (and one of my childhood heroes) Roberto Clemente), Asian Hispanics (Peru’s former President, Señor Alberto Fujimori), Indian Hispanics (sorry, but the term Native American is not widely used in Latin America and somehow the term “Native American Hispanics” just seems odd) and the 46,656 possible permutations found in colonial Spain’s attempts to codify the races into 16 possible marriage mixtures. Since many Hispanics or Latinos are white (especially in Cuba, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and of course Spain) and some are black (also Cuba, Dominican Republic, Panama, etc.) and a small number Asian (Central and South America) and a large number are mestizo (most of Central America and Mexico) it is complete nonsense to categorize them as one race.

    Roberto Clemente

Given the huge cultural diversity among the people we call Hispanic in this country, it must be understood that the term comprises many ethnic groups and it is an arrogant and ignorant error to classify them, in race-obsessed America, as a “new” race. The key here is to recognize that there is ethnic and cultural diversity not only in our nation as a whole, but also within Latin American Hispanics as well. While Cubans may be culturally and historically closer to Spain and the United States, Mexicans are fiercely proud of their Indian heritage and Argentines share strong cultural and blood ties not only to Spain but also to Italy and Germany.

It is then no wonder then that we Hispanics shake our heads in disbelief when we read that Coppola initially wanted to film “Evita” in Mexico City. For anyone who has taken a stroll in the wide, elegant avenues of sophisticated Buenos Aires or has shopped in the wonderfully colorful markets of overcrowded Mexico City , the differences are as clear as black and white (yes, yes, pun intended).

I hope you’re happy. (just kidding, he deserves it and more)

Here’s what a well-known AA blogger wrote today about the funeral–read it and weep Repubs claiming the “black vote.”

“When black people were dying in New Orleans, they called us everything but a child of God. We were animals, looters, out of control.

“Not one of these people said this was a lie, a slander. Jonah Goldberg laughed at the idea of people drowning in the Superbowl. They cheered the idea of black people being shot in the streets. They said we were too stupid to leave the city when they had no cars and no money.

“While Bush sat on his hands.

“So now, these same people want to give us lectures. They can eat their lectures.

“We don’t care what they think. They may have their lackies, and they best keep their mouths shut about this, but 98 percent of blacks have no use for the GOP.

“What? They think we don’t know they’re racists? They hated Dr. King and his wife in life and now in death. They hate that blacks and latinos no longer live in peonage. Only one of their bought and paid for fools would attack how Mrs. King was buried. To the rest of it, it was a fittintg tribute and making Bush sit there for hours was wonderful. He was told the truth and he couldn’t run.

“They didn’t help us back then, they won’t help us now, not when they can spit on us, and now they want to give us lectures? Please, please send Lynn Swann, Ken Blackwell and Michael Steele out to denounce this, do us this favor. Tell us how the GOP really likes black people.

“Help remind us why blacks vote Democratic.”

Mexican politics today is still profoundly racist, favoring the super-rich Creoles headed by that demagogue Vicente Fox. And where do these Creoles make their money? Off the backs of the darker skinned working class! Fox’s cronies keep em poor and ignorant in order to solidify his control over them. Do you know how much drug money Fox and his Colombian druglord buddies make by using poor Mexicans as their foot-soldiers and drug traffickers? Billions. But no one ever blames the charming Creole Mexicans for the state of inhuman poverty that the majority of Mexicans endure, do they? No, it’s always the darkie’s fault. See facts are things based in reality and history…..not what Hannity spews between comercials for RuthChris over priced steakhouses.

Bush went to Correta Kings funeral. Truly he should not have. He didn’t belong there. Just like he does not belong anywhere where human rights are discussed. He shamed Mr.and Mrs. King by his very presence. Like he even cared. It was just another photo op for him. It just may have been the VERY FIRST TIME he appeared before a hostile crowd.

And let us note that crowds REACTION!

Lowery’s and Carter’s so called “political attacks” on bush were welcomed by standing ovation and extended thunderous applause. Now maybe they were political attacks and maybe not. In any case I don’t care.

My own father died recently. He hated George Bush and everything he stood for; much as I suspect Coretta King did as well. If I could have found a way to attack bush at my dad’s funeral I would have done it.

northern guy,you know I have thought a lot about that, Im half-Filipino too and for 300 years they were slaves in their own country to Spaniards. Every time they tried to rebel they failed. It took the Americans Admiral George Dewey in the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898 to finally wrest control from Spaniards, but then the Americans took over till the Japs came and made slaves of our children, killed our men, and made prostitutes of our women. My grandpa fought and lived through that war and he told all his descendents never to marry a Jap or else they’d be ostracized. But anyway, we still kept the imported Catholicism, however it has been “Filipinized” and I suspect that the Catholicism of the Mexicans have been “Mexicanized” as well. But please dont drag JC and Christianity on the same level with the Spanish oppressors, that Ian glorifies so much. Catholicism has been around so long in our respective cultures that I guess it has literally been assimilated into them. But freedom is important to the Mexicans, the Philippine Revolution headed by the KKK organization with Jose Rizal was patterned after the Mexican revolution.

They were not content to live like dogs to their European masters licking their bootstraps everyday. After all, that’s Ian’s job. But at least he’s not alone, I know many dark skinned Filipinos who SWEAR they are Spanish! They swear! Just like Ian. They don’t even consider themselves Filipinos. Sigh! I pity people living in denial.

    CruX,

I am 6 ft 3 and I have light brown hair and light blue eyes so do not insult me by comparing me to fisheads or beaners or negroes or mullatoes. It was your ancestors who fled the dysfunctional non-White shit holes of Puerto Rico and the Phillipines to come to the land of evil White oppressors! You also sought out a self hating guilt ridden White skank to complete your existence and no doubt to improve the genetic quality of your potential offspring!

You dare to speak to me about self hate but everything your ancestors and all third worlders do; seeking to live amongst us and seeking White spouse and children with White DNA is hypocrisy at it’s worst and a manifestation of a giant and well deserved inferiority complex!

The washington post has a good roundup of the speeches in an article titled The Captive President.

There’s a section in it where Katie Obriene is talking to Mathews and is ranting on how the liberals dont’ know how to act at a funeral. Matthews then asks here : Was there something inaccurate in what they said, either he or Dr. Lowery?Katie Obreien’s next remark is consistent with so many.

    O’BEIRNE: It doesn’t matter.

Get that, it doesnt’ matter if it was factually correct. If it wasnt’ the truth, no one would be upset about the speeches.

OMG, you’re not referring to me, are you, dude?

I myself am 1/32 American Indian, Winnebago tribe.

What I meant, and I’m sorry if this didn’t come through, is that probably NONE of us are 100 percent “white.” Ian would find that out if he had the guts to really check out his background.

He doesn’t have the guts. That’s why he’s able to spout the racist s*** he does.

I in no way was trying to imply that being 100 percent white was better or more desirable, but it may have sounded that way.

    Hope that clears that up.

IanCorrection !Quote – - -”Hispanics & Latinos, aculture not a race”

Central and South America’s population is predominately American Indians and the American Indians are considered a RACE.This is by no means a cut down. I have a great deal of admeration for the Indian culture. The thing I don’t understand is why the Hispanics and Latinos are so ashamed of their heritage, they mostly all clam to be Spanish and don’t include Indians as being a part of their ancestry.

Actually, it was John Malkovich I had in mind, what with his attempt to outflank Ian Santiago on the racial front. I said ‘psuedononymous’ because the person in question, whoever it was, wasn’t using his usual posting name.

As for, racial purity, well, racial schmurity. Pshaw. Hogwash. If you aren’t a mongel, you are suspect as an American.

Ian,I finally got under your skin didn’t I? You can believe whatever you want, even the belief of a “Master Race” being the brainchild of Heinrich Himmler and the Nazi propagandists who sent expeditions to Nepal to try and prove their “Aryan” primordial ancestry was true. This no doubt, is perpetuated by your neo-Nazi masters and those who deem themselves as “white supremacists”. You can try to rewrite history all you want, but the painful truth is that Egyptians were building the Great Pyramids and the Chinese were building the Great Wall, and the Mongols had established the largest empire in all of history while your so-called “superior” European ancestors were hunkering naked between trees, worshipping nature, and/or polytheistic. Christianity did not originate as a European religion, it is a Middle Eastern religion, and Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Ian… was a JEW.

Ian,So what if you’re 6′3? Just because you’re tall you think you’re 100% white? What about Shaquille O’Neal? Or Yao Ming? You fail to realize that any person who has a healthy nutrition can be tall. I’m 6′1, brown eyes, black hair. But i’ve got brown skin! What a shock! And Ian, we don’t live in Nazi Germany, this is America. A-M-E-R-I-C-A, AMERICA, Ian. I’m sure you wish Hitler won the WW2 though, you’d make a perfect lackey for them. Why, any time they needed to prove their racial superiority they’d just put you in the spotlight and have you run your mouth as usual, and they’d be like “see, we’re so superior, even this Hispanic swears that he’s one of us!”

” I believe in a pure black race just as how all sef-respecting whites believe in a pure white race, as far as that can be. I am conscious of the fact that slavery brought upon us te curse of many colors within the Negro race, but that is no reason why we of ourselves should perpetuate the evil; hence instead of encouraging a wholesale bastardy in the race, we feel that we should now set out to create a race type and standard of our own which could not, in the future, be stigmatized by bastardy, but could be recognized and respected as the true race type anteceding even our own time”. – Purity Of Race from The Philosophy and Opinions of Marcus Garvey

“A separation of the races is the only perfect preventive of amalgamation, but as immediate separation is impossible the next best thing is to keep them apart where they are not already together… Such separation, if ever affected at all, must be effected by colonization… The enterprise is a difficult one, but ‘where there is a will there is a way;’ and what colonization needs now is a hearty will. Will springs from the two elements of moral sense and self-interest. Let us be brought to believe it is morally right, and at the same time, favorable to, or at least not against, our interest, to transfer the African to his native clime, and we shall find a way to do it, however great the task may be.” — Abraham Lincoln (June 26, 1857)

If you look up Rexist-Falangist, you will find the words fascist and Nazi listed also. So, Ian, I don’t think I’m that far off by calling you a racist, bigoted Nazi pig. You say that I am being “unfair” to you. I’m sorry if you feel that way. I can’t really find anything kind to say about someone who embodies everything that I hate — racism and stupidity! The kindest thing that I can say to you, Ian, is that God still loves you. But, I’m sure, to your dismay, God also loves black people, hispanics, and people of mixed races.
