Mays has his Cheney moment

House Speaker Doug Mays, R-Topeka, this week angrily said that Wichita lawyer Alan Rupe “can shove it up his ass” when told that Rupe, who represents schools in the funding lawsuit, didn’t think the House’s school-finance plan was good enough.
A raucous House stomped and cheered in support Friday when Mays returned in triumph.
Of course, the great orator — like his f-bombing mentor, Dick Cheney — later refused to apologize for expressing “what I was feeling.” The vulgarity “speaks for itself,” he said.
It certainly does. Eloquence! Thy name is Mays! One hopes that Kansas schoolchildren were in attendance to see how our political leaders guide debate and build consensus. Inspiring.
For his part, Rupe replied, “I won’t be going hunting with Doug Mays anytime soon.”

Alan Rupe seems to to want to cause financial hardship for the state in order for him to gain millions with the school system. How much has he recieved by representing the school district? Has to be in the millions. I think he is in it for himself.

Maybe we need to re-think the whole government education system. Maybe we need to get government out of it completely. At least a decent debate about the subject, instead of “how much can we soak the taxpayers into paying for more union workers.”

I don’t know! I’m almost tired of the subject now.

I thought Alan Rupe had said that he was only paid by the hour? Kinda hard to earn millions on an hourly rate basis.

Doug Mays can say whatever he wants now that he has declared that he isn’t going to run again. I think “Quack, quack” would be a more articulate comment from him.

Peolpe CAN be passionate. One of the reasons I keep coming back to THIS BLOG is to read some of the ‘passionate’ comments! Who knows?- Observing the legislative bodies at work might become more of a ’spectator sport’ if we could have more of this stuff to draw in the masses. I’m there!

I thought the Kansas legislature did a swell job of funding education. Of course, it had to wait in line there until after they dealt with the clear and present danger from the threat of having our marriages ruined by those couple of lesbians that wanted to steal our licenses away.

I suppose Mays vulgarity is a shining example of his values. Should I tell my grandkids that such language is appropriate?

Just an example of a “non angry” conservative. Read Mays’ comments and then read Rupe’s. See which one sounds angry.

Randy, very well said. You continue to make it clear that no matter what a conservative does you will just never approve! Doug Mays could never meet with your approval, despite his efforts to solve problems. Why don’t you write a blog on how much you hate republicans and love liberals? Of course on school finance you must tread lightly as both the dems and the repubs have been working in concert on the current plan that Rupe attacked. Why don’t you write a story on how Rupe the trial lawyer will never be happy and will never get enough money? As for his gain in all this, Randy, do your job and find out how much public tax dollars have been paid to Rupe. It is public information, and you, after all, love sunshine. I must say that I enjoy the exchanges I have with the other bloggers of a differnt mind set, especially Ben; but I am growing very tired of the one sided slant of the Eagle. How about a little balance?

To Nathan’s intellectual dishonesty we may now add his schoolmaarmish sanctimoniousness.

As for Marty Venick’s whimpering about ‘balance,’ I suggest he look at threads from Rhonda Holman or Philip Brownlee.

Alan Rupe gets paid by the hour. He filed this lawsuit since 1999. Everytime the State tries to comply, he appeals.

6 to 7 years on the payroll is a lot of hours.

The bipartisan supported finance plan, even supported by the Governor is not good enough for Alan Rupe. I bet the State could fund $10 BILLION more into state education this year and it still wouldn’t be good enough for Alan Rupe.

If Mays had had the maturity to have made reasoned comments about why he objects to Rupe it would have been one thing. To demonstrate the lack of maturity he did with his gutter mouth is quite something else.

Why are the conservatives so angry?

Just imagine if Howard Dean said this, “he’s melting down, he’s unhinged, he’s out of control, somebody hose the man down, get the straightjacket” etc.

But a conservative? Oh well, business as usual, nothing to see here . . .

Reason why is because leftist are stealing the taxpayers money.

I would be mad too. I guess when somebody sticks a gun to your head and tells you that you have to pay more, then how would you feel?

Sometimes anger is justified. I’m angry at terrorist. Makes a person human. If have not been angry in your life or ever expressed a statement like what Mays has about anything and anybody, then you are a liar.

Leftist people on this blog have said worse about President Bush in their sleep. So I think this is just a political football to be used.

    And again! Nobody really cares.

Alan Rupe is just another ambulance chasing self-ingratiating mooch on tax-payers. If he is so worried about the poor little school children, he should donate all of his proceeds to schools. Yeah, right. That’ll happen.

You may have a point that May’s is losing it. But this should not be a surprise. The guy wanted to be Governor and could even get the Republican legislature to support him and now he is on his way out the door with no legacy.

May’s does have a legacy and that is “Tax Raise May’s”. He helped pass the largest tax increase in Kansas History.

He has never been able to handle the heat so why would anyone expect him to do so when he on his way out and becomes a has been legislator and speaker of the house.

    He will be remembered as:

    Tax Raise May’s

    KsFarmGrrl,

Not sure what you are referring to because I do not have not worked for KOCH.

I am not a member of Americans For Prosperity or the Taxpayers Network. I am just a hard working stiff that pays attention to what government is doing.

I bet if KOCH was to leave this town and state you would be unhappy with the tax increase you would have to pay to replace what KOCH and their employees pay. That I do know a little about because I have a couple of friends that work at KOCH and they tell me that KOCH could leave this state pretty easy.

Why are you so down on KOCH anyway? What have they done to you that upsets you so much?
